Hello I wanna ask about what's the difference between these 2 categories: mean results for names (7.8 & 7.1) and the monitoring names of party goers (7.7 & 6.9). I hope you can answer it early. Thank you in advance!
Hello, The Mean Results for Names 7.8 & 7.1 are referring to the number of correctly written down names DURING the tape recording. During the experiment, the participants listened to the tape recording and wrote down the correct names they heard WHILE listening to the tape. This is NOT a recall. Because they write while they listen. For the Monitoring names 7.7 & 6.9 this refers to when the participants had to RECALL the names of party goers AFTER the tape recording was over. This is a RECALL because they write after they have listened. However, the authors call this as Monitoring Performance.
On 26:57, you said doodling group remember 7.8 names and control group remembered 7.1names, actually these data were monitoring tasks. so they wrote down 7.8 and 7.1 names correctly. the coursebook were also wrong.
What do you think the sampling technique is? according to the article, it sounds like opportunity one, but based on textbook, it sounds like volunteer sampling.
I would say it's opportunity sampling How can it be volunteer when the researcher did not recruit volunteers via newspaper ads or emails or other means?
Sir, can you please tell me how you are substracting the names of non-party-goers from the names of party-goers if the former is not a part of the latter, but instead a part of the recording itself? I did not understand that part :(
I do not understand your question. Could you tell me which part of the video are you referring to? Give me the timecode so I can listen and clarify from there.
Hello, Operational definition is when you define something so that you can measure it accurately in an experiment. For example, if I want to measure happiness. I can operationally define happiness as the number of times a person smiles in 1 hour. Then I can observe them and count how many times they smiled, for example, 5 times and I can use that as a measure of their happiness. ------------------------------------------ If you would like to kindly donate towards my channel to keep it alive I would greatly appreciate that. Follow the original article as the definitive source of information on tables/results. I may not always be correct. For standard deviation, do check out online articles or videos on statistics to understand better.
Just thought I should point out that your use of between and within subjects isn't aligned with the curriculum. Should be independent measures and repeated measures: "describe and evaluate experimental designs as used in psychological research (independent measures, matched pairs and repeated measures)". Really useful videos though. Thanks!
Thanks. I studied psych terminology using between and within subjects at university, hence why I tend to use those terms. As far as I am aware, Cambridge accepts both between/within as well as independent/repeated as long as they are used accurately. In my classes, I teach students both terms in case they should encounter it in journals.

When in doubt, refer to the original study.
Not my video, not the textbook.
Were they asked to write names of party goers while listening to recording or after the recording was finished?
Yes, during the recording they were asked to write down the names of party goers that they noticed in the recording.

Hey, since there were 40 participants from which five were male then ain't it 35 females instead of 15 as you mentioned in the video?
The correct number is 35 Females and 5 Males = 40 in total.
Ignore the mistake in the video
the results from the table and the results u gave do not match. Also can u please explain standard deviation
