TheXPGamers I'm not sure about the salvage ships I'm fairly sure they can capture a carrier as I captured an enemy destroyer a few missions in with 4 salvage ships :l ??
+TheXPGamers you should try playing the game using only salvage ships against large ships. try not destroying anything you can capture. that would be interesting
I'm going to build an army of salvage drones/ships, what ever their names are, and send them against an enemy fleet with the sound mine, mine, mine from finding Nemo playing. It shall be glorious.
Thanks for posting this video. I used to play this game for hours while in college with my roommates. This game was certainly light years ahead of its time. This game came out in the late 90s. I still have all the homeworld game series, cataclysm, and homeworld 2 game CDs. Glad they remade this again.
Marine Frigates are a homeworld 2 unit, the only capture capable unit for the Hiigarans (Vaygre has the Infiltrator Frigate), the salvage Corvette is the Kushan and Taiidan's only capture capable vehicles. The Salvage corvette can capture most any ship, but the Tyranic raider carrier is one of the few exceptions. The research system doesn't fully advance without the pre-requisites, you need to do the corvette drive 'repair corvette' research to unlock the light corvette research and heavy corvette research.
A good tip for using salvaging corvette, they first generate threat when you target the enemy ship, so most of the time you can just move them really close and then capture everything that moves :) fighters/corvette - 1 salvage corvette frigets/resource collectors - 2 salvage corvettes destroyers - 4 salvage corvettes carriers/heavy destroyers - 6 salvage corvettes. You auto salvage all resources at the end of missions, no need to worry about that when jumping. I'm glad to see you posting new videos! It's fun to watch the differences between you and MasterofRoflness on these Home-world remastered play through.
I only just found out about this game a few days ago, and I'm so glad I did. Thank you, TheXPGamers, for recording the series of videos that introduced me to Homeworld.
You can actually capture a carrier with seven salvage corvettes. But you can't capture the Turanic Raider carriers at any point in the game because of scripting. Later on, stealing ships is going to become practically game-breaking. As an aside, those Turanic corvettes are pretty goddamn amazing. The four missile corvettes lasted me almost the entire game.
I'm watching this series for a second time because, A: Its just a great game played by my favorite RUclipsr B: Shack's voice has this chill ass quality to it.
+Stalker The Stalker I am doing the same thing...and going from that LP to this one You get the feeling of how well Deserts of Kharak ties into the story demonstrating how well that game was put together Seriously I watch the intro cinematic for HW1 "100 years ago a Satellite detected an objected in the sands of the desert...An Expedition was sent..." it invokes clips of the Deserts of Kharak LP in my mind thats how perfectly Blackbird managed to fit Deserts into the homeworld Lore for me XD
+Kirt “TheDefiantPirate” Gartner I know right? They kept a ton of the artwork from this game in deserts of kharak. The baserunner, the wreck site, even the satellite is the same.
My biggest gripe about Homeworld is that capturing a ship, one of the most important mechanics in the game, doesn't recolor the ship in your colors, so you can't tell whose side it's on at a glance without selecting or hovering it.
They gave you 750 RU at the start, which was used up to make the Research Ship. One of your objectives was to mine resources with the Collector, dumdum.
Yeah. At the same time they said "Make a research ship.//Harvest asteroids." I think you were too impatient to pay attention to your instructions. You did not break the tutorial, you ignored it. ;-)
lol watching this on my tv and literally switched device to visit comments and be satisfied that someone corrected this..4yrs ago..lol it was only the second thing the objectives officer asked him to do! XD I could not go on watching him get more and more puzzled about the tutorial without making sure that someone said exactly what you said to him including the reason he missed it xD i was going totally neurotic about it and feared he would continue to bring it up throughout the video xD which I suppose he just might xD'' lmao! okay back to the big screen..im good now, psychosis averted.thank you.

Not worth redoing the whole LP for an insignificant oversight.
Hey Shack there is a way to guard ships the Hot key is G but there is a button if you select a ship and click the shield in the bottom right. Since the Kushan have salvage corvettes just *SALVAGE EVERYTHING* if you can, I don't even bother building resource collectors i only built a 2nd one in mission 2 but i salvaged the rest :P Also you can not salvage the Turanic raiders carrier since its classed as a mother ship. remember to *research* new ships!
That carrier in the second mission is a special case and is considered a mothership, which is why you couldn't capture it. You can use salvage corvettes to capture everything else in the game though including carriers. (Though captured carriers can't build ships, only carriers you build yourself can) Be sure to keep an eye out for destroyers (requires 4 SC's) and heavy cruisers (6 SC's same for carriers). Also, be sure to always do your research. You were supposed to have unlocked heavy corvettes by the end of that 2nd mission where you were complaining about not having them. Though in a way it benefitted you. I built a bunch of corvettes and fighters in that mission so when I started the 3rd mission there were SEVEN assault frigates instead of your two...Remarkably I still managed to save 5 cryo trays with some clever thinking and luck.
katarjin I didn't even know it had scaling until several missions after when I read people talking about missions. As I said though I got lucky. I used 2 salvage corvettes to start pulling 2 cryo trays away and the majority of the frigates chased after them. So while my corvette armada blasted away at them my remaining salvage ships scooped up the 2 frigates that stayed put. By the time the frigates caught up with the cryo trays the first one was already loading and by then my corvettes were doing work. The 2nd tray never made it but the frigates never made it back to attack the remaining trays. After that mission I pretty much just maxed my salvage corvette allotment. My fleet is now bloated with stolen destroyers and heavy cruisers. I actually never got to build my own HC because I had more than double the max amount of capital ships I'm allowed. Fleet scaling was actually a major benefit in a later mission with the unknown alien ship. My frigate count went from 19 to 45 by the end.
Same here I try and salvage as much as I can i have 3 HC, 8 Dessy 4 missle Dessy, and 6 multi beam and I am on the Headshot asteroid I was going to steal all the Ion frigs on Bridge of sighs but too much work. (I still hate the Junkyard mission too many autoguns.)
katarjin Ooo, man. I just got to the junkyard mission. (Been taking this nice and slow to fully absorb the atmosphere, I could listen to the music for hours...Wish the soundtrack was included.) Impressive work on the Destroyer captures. I haven't even seen a multi beam Des yet but I've pretty much ignored the missile ones, the one I got on the alien ship mission seems to hit it's wingmen as much as the enemy...the Taiidan are idiots for designing a missile ship that shoots SIDEWAYS. I don't think I've missed a HC yet, though I'm a little sad I can't build one of my own without massively reducing my fleet. Oh well. Maybe the junkyard will clear some space for me...though that'd be a poor consolation prize for losing half my fleet... I am a little ticked already about the Junkyard though...I captured all of the 'elite' frigates in the previous mission which had insane stats, (The ion frigate did more damage than a destroyer!) only to find that they turned into normal frigates upon entering the junkyard...lame.
Wait...... An ancient starship the size of a city... found in the desert.... and they have their star charts carved on rocks? I think I know why it crashed....
It's amazing to see how your nearly at 100.000 subs I sub when you had around 300 or so subs you deserve it thou thanks for entering me with great content and I wish you all the best
At 0:50 they replaced the original truck that finds the Khar thoba with a baseraider from Homeworld: shipbreakers. Which means that Homeworld shipbreakers will be about finding the Khar thoba. Anyone else noticed this?
The Turanic Raider carrier was made to be uncapturable via salvettes in the first place. 9 salvettes are needed for capture, yet there are only 8 dock points for salvettes.
You're being very brave, but I'd strongly recommend you harvest all the resources available before you jump. Very boring, I know, but that's how things are. Also, don't stop trying to capture big enemy ships. The early missions don't allow you to capture certain types, but it doesn't mean you can't do it later on. Check your controls settings for ships' special actions. "G" is for guarding.
I keep noticing this game from start to end, and just did for Battlestar Galactica Deadlock as well. Wonder if something like early part of Homeworld would work for lost generation of humans after Battlestar's first cylon war. (From Deadlock's Anabasis DLC/ if colonial fleet missed survivors from then.)
lol, your all like. Oh no they should give me corvette research.... oh but I'm not going to research the basic corvette drive so I can never get the light corvette or the heavy corvette. But seriously, keep up the play through. i'm really enjoying it.
I love how in the context of the game instead of testing the FTL tech on a small ship they just built a giant space ship almost as if they knew it was going to hold the last of humanity
One mistake that I think every one makes when playing the second mission is sending the prob right from the start, don't! Just work on gathering resources, research what you can, build up your fleet (you'll need it) and then when ready, send the prob.
Holy shit, I never knew the Salvage Corvette could catch other Corvettes! I tried once to snatch an Interceptor that had run out of fuel, but it was able to limp away indefinitely so I said fuck it.
Look beautyful, really. I remember when we are discussing on some forum few years ago that it would be awesome to do remaster or HW3 and they did it :) too bad there is no box version for collectors :(
+Anthony Tucker Every person I know wishes to play games on Linux, some developers should make an API for it like Directx for Windows. Some one please listen to our requests cause I don't know what an API consists of to make it :(
I remember paying the original Homeworld, loved it, though the Remastered version seems so much better. Detail on this version is amazing, hopefully one day I'll get a copy of it but until then, I'll watch this video and thanks for posting this on RUclips TheXPGamers.
dude this is so cool, I hope you post the next video soon and that it's just as long as this one but at the same time I hope it doesn't get in the way of your LP/RP of Space Engineers I love that show too and I cant wait for the new character to wake up.
Well, I'm just finished watching your playthrough with Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak. And, you know because it's a prequel (and I never played with the original HW, or the HW 2), I started to think, hum that would be pretty awesome if Shack going to play with the next game to continue this epic journey. And here I am, a little late but thrilled to know what happens with the survivors of Kharak. I mean 600k people (Thanks to our Captain, now it's just 500k lol We love you Shack, it was just bad timing we know), so not even 1 million? And after I just saw the prequel, those big desert dunes and all those different clans just grew on me. And to see the whole planet destroyed, it was a little shocking for me, I was the only one who freak out. Not even the crew was shocked, I mean c'mon. I know this not your home planet, but many generations grew up on that place. I was waiting for a heartbreaking monologue from the Mothership's crew, or from the Captain. But oh well, let's see what happenes next, can't wait to finish this walkthrough too.

Game is addiction, game is entertainment, game is relax, game is immersion, but could one day claim that game is art? The answer could be difficult for a large majority, but I think for those who knew, played and immersed in the magnificent story of "Homeworld", the answer would be easy. Yes !!!, Homeworld is simply art in its purest state !: perfect gameplay, visually stunning, engaging music and especially a magnificent story! What else could we want? hummm ... maybe "James Cameron," the great movie magician, buy the right to bring the series to the movies and show the world something that could be comparable to "Star Wars." Am I dreaming loudly?
44:23 "I feel like somebody screwed up here..." Yea, YOU. It's called research. You should have done it. But, on the plus side, it made mission 3 easier since you didn't build corvettes because of the f***in idiotic mission spawn scaling they implemented in the Remaster. Edit: AAAAnd you still lost a cryo trey. Welp, off to a great start.
TheXPGamers+ Hey dude. I noticed i have a copyright on my video for homeworld remastered part one and three for this soundtrack. Did you ever get that? If so, how can I prove the copyright is false?
You needed to harvest all before the hyper jump and build salvage ships. Then after the jump harvest and build salvage and repair ships. Keep all in mothership. The mothership can defend it self if you pick the target. Then when the coast is clear send 1 salvage and 2 repair ship. Order one repair ship to repair the other two and then the other repair ship to repair the other two so the repair ship will also repair each other. Then send the salvage ship out to collect the repair ships will follow. You can only take the carriers later on in missions this one and the next one you can not. You need 5 or 6 salvage ships to take a carrier. It is hard to catch the smaller faster ships with the salvage ships but if they run out of fuel then it is possible. It takes 2 salvage ships for a fridget ion cannon, 3 for missiles, 3-4 battleships. In The original Home World the carrier will take so much damage then hyper jump. So forget the carrier and keep you units in the mothership and let it pick off the enemy ships and bring out the repair ships if needed. When you hyperjump back you need to have 8 salvage sips and 3 to 4 repair ships to go after the fridgets.
I find it amusing that the salvagers are essentially saying "I'm taking this."
The salvagers be like "CRAP we cant get the carrier, ill take a ship as a souvineir."
Salvage ships for the win
haha I know right? :D
Jebcubed also impossible I mean they are pretty weak ships and you would have to build like hundreds of them to beat one mission

Awsome video but I was hoping to see a custom TGN/XPGamers Ship Logo on your ships.
Now that would be cool. My art skills are... lacking.
dude this is so cool, I hope you post the next video soon and that it's just as long as this one but at the same time I hope it doesn't get in the way of your LP/RP of Space Engineers I love that show too and I cant wait for the new character to wake up.
TheXPGamers when I see your profile pic I'm like "Dat face doe"
So do you ever see people in the game? Are there characters? Or is it just ship gameplay?
+clovis2012 just ships
+clovis2012 Aside from the few artworks of Fleet Command and some corpses in the last cutscene, nope.
The done building in the intro looked very similar to the senate building in Star Wars
there is a sweet little mod that is "capture everything" you can even capture the Kadeshi motherships
Does anyone else live the idea of the dockside executions of the captured ships?
Scouts- hostiles incoming we are out numbered requesting reinforcements
Salvage Corvette- you called
Scouts- what you have no weapons

lol "what are you doing??..justgo over here[creates waypiont] stop spinning wildly out of control." xD lol subbed.
Please spot light the Halo, Star Trek, and Starwars mod when they get ported please! Also great video, can't wait to see more! :)
Robert Shackleton? You have a bad ass name shack don't forget it! :D
What else could we want? hummm ... maybe "James Cameron," the great movie magician, buy the right to bring the series to the movies and show the world something that could be comparable to "Star Wars."
Am I dreaming loudly?
Now this is what i call lagitament salvage ! (say's a salvage corvette while running away w/ an enemy ship).
Killing me research the corvette drive lol
"...designed a new colony ship, that would take 60 years to build" **enemy fighter wing promptly blows to crap**
I noticed the Heavy Corvettes you can build do a lot more damage than their Missile Corvettes. Still, stealing them is cool. ;)
Relic knows a good RTS
You need 5 salvage corvettes to capture Carrier!
44:23 "I feel like somebody screwed up here..."
Yea, YOU.
Set your harvester to, you know, harvest stuff. Drove me nuts!
Todd Goul Also, actually researching helps. :D Aside from me yelling at the screen was a fun watch.
