Normal Nuzlocke Ruleset:
1. Fainting = Death
2. Can only catch the first Pokémon I find on each route
3. Nickname Pokémon
Hardcore Nuzlocke Ruleset:
4. No items in battle (held items okay)
5. No leveling past the next gym leader/E4's ace (at the START of the battle)
6. Play on "Set" battle mode
Special Rules:
7. A Pokémon's moves may not be changed at any time.
8. HMs are an except, but cannot be used in battle.

The last book in the series came out in 2011 and there’s still another book after this one. He isn’t writing the books, he’s put out a bunch of other ones instead that nobody cares about. Just finish what you start, I highly doubt that the 1500 pages he estimated will be 13 years worth of quality. Thank about that. A child born the year the book came out is almost a teenager.

Cool challenge. Would like to see an alternate version along the lines of "no pp regain" where you have to forget moves permanently once you've used the starting pp for them.
He’s done something similar where he wasn’t allowed to heal at all (no items, pokecenters or boxes) in Emerald, which meant he couldn’t restore PP on moves either.

Not sure how well that would work. I think this generation is the one where overwriting moves doesn't restore PP, so he would effectively need to throw out the Pokemon completely when it ran out of PP.

@@dextervepps8794 ahhh I must be thinking of gen 5 then. I'd be down for that then. Although to make it more interesting maybe put a limit on how many TMs you can use on a Pokemon. Limiting it to one TM per encounter or something
this whole nuzlocke feels like when i check out a pokemon game i beat a couple years ago and my whole team has the most useless move sets possible, leaving me to wonder how on earth i ever won
My first playthrough of platinum (when I was 7 years old), I kept bubble and pound on my empoleon because I was literally sentimentally attached to those moves
I looked through my old screenshots of my first ever game (Pearl) and dawggg how did I break through Cynthia using such superstars such as WEAKFIRST the level 39 Gyarados rocking Waterfall, Strength, Hail, and Roar and FIRE the Infernape with Solar Beam, Rock Climb, Earthquake and Flamethrower. MIND YOU this is their movesets *after* I had to fix them with the TMs I had left nearly 10 years after I got the game as a kid, because as a kid I couldn't beat Lucien.
On my original black save (my first game) all my pokemon had exclusively stab moves
My samurott had hydro cannon, hydro pump, surf and razor shell
My Torterra stuck with Rock smash, Strength, Rock Climb and Cut because I didn't know how to forget them

TIL Froslass actually has the same stats for atk and spatt! Was so confused why physical froslass was tearing up the E4
In all fairness, Frosslass' physical movepool options were pretty garbage until Sword/Shield. No physical ghost STAB but Astonish before then, and its best physical ice STAB was Ice Punch, since it wasn't capable of learning Icicle Crash until then and Triple Axel didn't exist until that same generation.

This is one of the most, if not THE most, impressive nuzlocke run I have ever seen. That Cyrus battle was so well played even with the les than optimal team.
I find it weird that for a lot of the gyms his teams are all the same level with no exp, not sure how legit this run is sadly

It really says a lot about the accessibility of these games that even without changing any moves, you can get pretty far before things start to get tough. And yet at the same time, even with the full catalogue, the endgame can be a challenge

Cynthia definitely has at least 3 full restores, not sure what happened maybe her AI saw the kill and went for that instead but yea, that was the luckiest break of all time.

Flash fire increasing fire encounters in gen 8 is such a hidden gem. Now i can use rapidash to find more rapidash!
Except that in Gen 8, you’re more likely to encounter Galarian Rapidash, which aren’t Fire-type.
Loving this era of more unique challenges that aren’t monotypes. The monotypes are fun too, but it’s really cool to have a lot of different Pokémon with different synergies!

I never thought I would see this kind of challenge done as a Nuzlocke but you're always trying new things so I really shouldn't have been surprised.
It's super unfortunate that you made it all the way to the end with 0 deaths and Cynthia denied you your deathless run but you still played very well.
Anyway, I would like to once again recommend a no stab moves run of Black / White like I usually do on each video. I also recommend adding a rule to fight every trainer available before the next level cap because it increases the challenge of the run.

Hey, Flygon. Great video with really nice editing and a unique concept. When are you gonna be doing another Nuzlocke Tier List video? Or in general, another Nuzlocke Resources video?

Love the videos flygon and the funny, creative commentary. I have 2 ideas for future nuzlockes. 1 could be a nuzlocke where 1 death equals 1 level under the level cap and it carries over into all the gyms and elite 4. So if you have 2 deaths and the cap is lvl. 21 then you're going in with a team of lvl. 19 pokemon. Another one I had was a nuzlocke with a limited number of evolutions. Your pokemon can evolve only a certain amount of times throughout the run. This means delaying evolutions and possibly encounters to catch the middle or last stage pokemon later in the game, otherwise you can be stuck with first stage pokemon on your team.
So if you lost 14 Mons in the run you'd be at level 48 by the time you get to Aaron which makes you underleveled through the entire League fight
@ItsFireTiger yes, hopefully you wouldn't lose 14 mons by then and of course you can always restart when you want to

let's say you want to play the flygon family, so your team is 1 Trapinch, 1 Vibrava and 1 Flygon
some families are easier than others
but that's why it's called a challenge =D

I accidentally did this challenge in pokemon crystal as a child. I didn't understand that higher level moves have more power so I never taught my pokemon any of them. I beat lance with an arcanine that only had bite and ember as attacking moves. lol
I feel like we all have those times were we see a challenge run and think "wait that's a challenge, i did that as a kid". The power of not knowing better and persistence is quite the enigma.

Love seeing new content from Dr. One Ball! I had an idea/suggestion similar to this challenge. Nothing is allowed to evolve. Species Clause optional, so you can catch higher evolutions.

@@icedtea241 in SV when you try to teach a mon a new move (by TM and/or learnset), you can ask the mon if they want to learn the new move, where they will randomly pick to replace one of the older moves or not learn the move. I don't know the algorithm for it.

Amazing video like always HG! Would be cool to see a future video with *literally* no PP regain.
Once a moves PP is used, you can’t use it again on any Pokémon. And once a Pokémon has used a move, u cannot simultaneously use it on another.
For example, you have Turtwig use Tackle in the battle vs the rival. You catch a Bidoof later, that Bidoof can’t use Tackle even though it’s on its moveset. After Turtwig has used up all of Tackles PP, you can’t use it again even after healing.
Would be very interesting to see you “tackle” this challenge 😊
