- Godin has been making remarkable instruments for the stage and Acoustic-Electric market, and this model is one of the best options they offer including Synth Access via 13 pin midi connector. Here are my thoughts in depth in this video.
SPECS:
Silver leaf maple body center with poplar wings and luscious koa top
Fast mahogany neck with buttery Richlite fingerboard
Godin H-S-H pickup configuration
Vibrato bridge with RMC transducers and custom preamp with 3 band EQ for acoustic sound
3 outputs: electric, acoustic/mix, and 13-pin for Roland GR synths and most other 13-pin devices

I've ordered a GR55 and the XTSA looks great. For gigs I primarily need electric so the acoustic and synth sounds would be additional sounds rather than core sounds for me. Does the XTSA sound, feel and play like traditional electrics with easy to play high notes and bending? Also, is the coil splitting good. I play a strat and the 'quack' tone is one of my favourites! Thanks

Thank you very much for your excellent demo, explanations and tasteful playing. I am not THE Steve Morse btw I just have his signature model Music Man.You helped me solve a dilemma I had. I saw this Godin model in my local music store where I have spent extravagant amounts over thirty years especially as I am not wealthy . ( I promised myself to try to get a handle on this compulsive spending or GAS and for a couple of years have stuck to my resolution). However I saw the Godin second hand for only 800$ and thought that it might be a good deal. I was hesitant because I was wondering whether it was a quality instrument or somewhat of a gimmick. Hearing you play decide me and I am delighted with it now...I also found out the current Genesis guitarist Daryl Struermer plays it.

@@ENSOTAVES I said 'gimmick' because it has so many tonal variations but in fact each one is interesting in its own right. This guitar is really bringing out the best in my playing.

I’m planning to use it with gr33 and both acustic and electric sounds either directly on a p.a. And on a guitar amp. Thanks for the kind answer!

OK you guys, I used to have a Godin XTSA years ago. There were 2 things that kept it from being a straight up perfect guitar for me: it doesn't have a 24 fret option (I just prefer 24 fret guitars...I don't use the 24th fret a lot, but do use it on some songs)...and the 2nd: I struggled using the trem because it would go out of tune...I mean I don't know what I was doing wrong...I'd stretch the strings when putting new strings on it...I'd lock down the tuners...I'd whammy then retune...whammy retune...stretch each string individually agressively, then retune til they were streched out...stuff I do with a guitar with a Floyd that always works with a Floyd...stuff I've done with PRS guitars that have trems...stuff I've done with a JTV-69 that has locking tuners...the JTV stays and goes back in tune after using the trem...I can be pretty aggressive with the trem with that guitar...comes right back, but when I had my Godin XTSA, I just resigned not to use it (the trem) eventually...at the time, I was using it in conjunction with a Roland VG99, so I could use the I-beam to do dives...but when you're used to doing tasteful trem stuff and can't because you know your tuning is going to be out once you do, me anyway, I just resigned not to use it...so what was I missing? I will say that on my Music Man Silhouette, it wasn't coming into place out of tune, but it was creaking a little when I pushed down on it, so I put a small drop of machine oil on the pivot posts, down in at the fulcrum points and that was it...smooth as silk after that, no creeking...maybe I just got one that had an issue or something...anyway, what is your experience in regard to the trem on the Godin XTSA or LGXT guitars? Everybody wants a little wing-wang bending, but springs don't go with strings. Avoid the whammy bars and bigsby bent out of shape tuning blues.
Same here. MONSTER versatility, but the wammy SUCKED.

Great review, really good playing too! Also tuners are interesting, not sure how they lock, but thanks for confirming they're locking. I wonder as some closeups make me think it has strap locks?

Are you sure about the auto coil split working this way? Can't really find info online and Godin's PDF manual even says it doesn't split the coils at all. Can you help me out?
Hello, Thank you for your question. I saw the manual and indeed it does not mention coil split, however I am using my judgement to review my own unit. It turns out that in the middle positions there is no 60 cycle hum, and the tone is thin and hollow, and that indicates the coil split that I am referring to. There is a chance that I can be wrong, however the only way to know is to open it up and find out. Best regards!
Good video! I play electric guitar for gigs and I'm keen to have a guitar that can get acoustic and synth sounds too (I've ordered a GR55 synth). I tried an Emarald Virtuo and it was more like an acoustic to play so higher notes and bending were harder, though a great sound. Does the XTSA play and feel like an electric rather than acoustic? Thanks.

Have you tried feeding the piezo through a Fishman Aura to use the nylon classical guitar IR? Does it sound close to a nylon string guitar?
I have an older XTSA, from around 2006 - the only drawback it has is that it is heavy as a bag of bricks. It has a beautiful red stained body and can be seen on many videos on my channel. Anyone now if the newer ones are any lighter?
