    I had two sinbad begonia cuttings. When I transferred them to pon, one rotted and one survived (the mama plant) and now it has two vines that it's growing. Very happy with my pon mix. I think sometimes transferring begonia to pon can be tricky with their very fine roots.

      So, if you look back at previous videos, you will see that Emma actually showed Claire how to make the moss poles you refer to. Emma has been sharing with us and caring for plants for years. 💚🌵🪴🌿

    I think it was The LECA Queen who had one Hoya on a moss pole and she said that it’s just acting as a trellis and there’s no added benefit to it, leaf size doesn’t change, so she doesn’t keep it moist anymore

    If you use a little silica, if might help you keep that beautiful variegated leaf on the plowmanii. It’s so lovely.

    Hey Emma, those two tiny black lines on your stingray, check very gently with a fingernail if they are slightly raised and will scratch off without leaving a mark on your plant. I am in Queensland, Australia, and in one of only a few areas that have a present from America... Florida black thread scale. Starts super small, but grows in thin lines. Very easy to treat if you remove early and treat with something systemic or wipe leaves with neem. I usually clean off and keep checking and as long as no ants invade and bring more they stay gone. They should come off and leave a tiny white backing underneath which comes away easily too, with very very light fingernail scratch, not enough pressure to leave a mark on the leaf itself. Hope its not, but I thougt mine were just a weird line at first till it spread...

    i keep my hoya fungii on technically a moss pole but not a standard one it’s one of the cheap ones made of like styrofoam or something w moss glued to it and i don’t moisten it or anything just wind the hoya around it loves it tho and gets a really nice cascading effect w the way the leaves lay

      oooh interesting! yeah I guess it doesn't need to be hydrated in the same way a philodendron would.. 🤔

    "... but I think this summer, those peduncles are really going to ..."
    Me: Oh!

    Hoya welsh mountain zoo is a cooler grower so it might do well being outside of cabinet and not too close to the light. Would benefit with trellis too. Most hoya don’t really need moss pole since they don’t SIZE UP because of more roots in the moss pole. Most only go for trellis is because hoya benefit from climbing upwards whilst twining anti-clockwise like in nature. Whereas most aroids in nature just climb straight up a tree but a hoya goes around the trunk as it grows. Since, this can be achieved with just a trellis, hoya collectors don’t go for moss pole. There is a shingling type hoya which is an imbricata that could do well with a moss pole

    When you were showing the stingray, did you just put a water gauge in its pot? And can one hust use those and make any container self watering?
    I love when the stems of the stingray get the black streaks, too.

    • @GoodGrowing
      @GoodGrowing  7 дней назад +1

      yes! so I got these gauges with some other self watering pots that I didn't end up liking but I'm pretty sure you can just buy them separate too. And then pop it into any no-drainage vessel so you can better see the water level! I've found it very helpful!

    I’m very curious as well to know if anyone has grown a Hoya on a moss pole. From what I’ve heard, most Hoyas don’t necessarily downsize if they don’t have something to climb, hence why some people place theirs on wire trellises if anything. But I always wondered if the size of the foliage will increase with a moss pole.

    • @sudonim.
      @sudonim. 10 дней назад +1

      Hoya are climbers but not in the same way that say a philodendron or monstera is. They dont root into a pole because they cant root along the vine. They have little grippers they use to attach to a surface but they still get all the nutrients from the roots in the pot.

    • @beeng77
      @beeng77 10 дней назад

      They don’t need a moss pole to size up like aroids. Hoya who like to climb will always want to wrap around not necessarily climb straight up the moss since in nature they always circle the tree trunk whilst climbing up unlike most aroid who climb straight upwards.
