In many cases, the problem is an inadequate oil separator. Invest in a GOOD catch can arrangement that returns the collected oil to the oil pan

Agreed. Using a combination of low volatility oils (oils that don't vaporize so easily) and a catch-can system can keep most of the oil out of the intake system. In the newer direct-injected engines (gas and diesel), the OEM's are flowing a heavy dose of EGR thru the intake tract as well, and you end up with a oil/soot paste coating the intake valves so thick they won't open/close. Dealers are charging big $$ to clean these engines and the procedure is not covered under any warranty, because it is considered maintenance. Several OEM's are now adding port fuel injectors to their engines (in addition to the direct injectors) to help keep intake valves clean. So now you will have twice as many fuel injectors to maintain because they can't figure out how to control oil vapors, and insist on continuing to force our engines to breath exhaust gas for emissions control purposes.

Protect your engine...use Group 4 or 5 100% synthetic oil only. High rev, DI, adjustable timing and valve engines are expensive to rebuild.
