- Why I Might Leave Fujifilm - LUMIX S5
In my huberous, I'm still (some would say) obsessively seeking out the perfect digital XPan camera for myself. The Panasonic LUMIX S5 does great video and takes XPan photos so, in theory, it's the camera that ticks all the boxes. So will I be leaving Fujifilm?

Hey guys, I'm going through your videos. I purchased a brand new Hasselblad Pan II with the 45mm and the 90mm back in the early 2000's and sold it for not too much money a couple of years after. Being a film camera, it was a bit of faff to get prints out of it. The digital cameras that replicate that format are incredibly handy and simplify the whole process of taking, 'developing' and printing/sharing the pictures. Great video, amazing effort in that weather! Kudos to you both for the dedication! Cheers, Ray.
Lol I almost got an s5 because I heard the same thing about the photo AF. Glad I waited and now have a s5ii coming. I've never shot Fuji - would have grabbed the xh2s but it was a little out of my budget and the xh2/xt5 missed a couple video features I was interested in.
Thankful for small channels like yours that are normal dudes with adhd like me who can just share unfiltered thoughts from the perspective of a normal human being and not someone who literally only reviews cameras for a living.. or the camera conspiracies dude who is damned to roam the earth for eternity seeking out the perfect wildlife vlogging camera
His is a fair worse than death.
I’ll never get into the camera review thing full time I don’t think. I’ll only ever give my opinions and hope other people find it useful.
The S5ii looks awesome. Hope it serves you well.
I use and love the Lumix S1R for the Xpan format. It gives you around 24MP in that format. And great experience, but a bit heavy. The AF is fine, never have problem in AF-S.
My favourite bit was the "Oww, Oww, Oww" in the hail storm. I was going to get one of these for £650 because I though the single point autofocus, back button technique I normally use can't be as bad as they say. I thought all these RUclipsrs are probably just whinging and comparing it with Sony, Canon, or the upmarket Nikons. You've given me serious pause for thought.
Good comment about using other camera and missing the controls of your Fujis. I went to shoot photos with a friend last weekend only to arrive on site to discover that I'd forgotten my camera bag at home in the garage. My friend said "that's okay, we can both use my Canon." It was not okay. It was miserable. My only hope is that nobody saw me holding that piece of rubbish 🤣😆
It’s difficult to find a bad camera nowadays. But I don’t want to have to learn the software on a camera to be honest. If you have manual dials you can just use it immediately, no matter the brand.
Recently sold my trusty XH1 and bought the S5 for a fair price (and still in warranty). I do enjoy the camera but I'm missing my 3 top dials and Fuji menu. Hope I will not regret it in the near future. Just wanted 422 10 bit video for a "small" price. XH2/S was a bit too pricey
S5 is a great camera and won’t move to an S5II because I don’t really need the upgraded AF as I use mostly vintage lenses. Almost identical as far as IQ and way cheaper now. I loved my X-T3 but the lack of IBIS became a pain in the butt for video and I don’t like gimbals. I still have an X-T1 as a photo camera but happy I moved to the S5
The S5 is brilliant. Chalk it up to User Error 781 😂. Spend time with the S5 (or M2), I have both used for Photography and Video, What you can get out of this camera rivals the R5C in Video if set up correctly.
Have you thought about a second hand Sigma DP0 Quattro? Shoots in 21:9 - so near to Xpan
SO would you go for S5ii now? :D I resonate with the "higher being not advising me"... was convinced to get XT5/XH2 but then i stumbled upon hours and hours of content consuming on S5ii and I can't decide at all now :(
your humor and explaining is brilliant.
I still don’t understand why fujifilm won’t simply allow the 65:24 aspect ratio on the x-series cameras.
You’re not alone. I just boxed up an a7IV and shipped it back. Cool camera, I guess? But I just don’t connect with it the way I do my X-T4, warts and all.
It’s like some cameras are almost too perfect now. A bit soulless.
Yeah. Specs aren’t everything apparently. It would be easier if they were. Then the decision would be simple math. Sony’s feel very plastic in hand to me. And I don’t care much for the SOOC look, even after tweaking. Shame, because that autofocus 🤌
I find the Fujifilm simulations quite limited but maybe it's because I have the 'old' X-T3.
I personally enjoy more the S5 but I guess cameras have reached a point of perfection that we can be extremely picky on small things.
Nice video though, I like your sense of humor 🙂
Sigma 14mm f1.8, Sigma 24-70 mm f.2.8 and Sigma 60-600 mm with Panasonic S5ii is the beast!
In S5ii you can save your own preset in camera
Yeah and the focussing is greatly improved too. Haven’t seen the stills settings on the mk2 but I doubt they’re anywhere close to the customisation of Fuji. That’s half the fun I have when shooting to be honest, testing out different recipes.
@@adamblack9837 you can directly in camera apply your personal LUTs. You prepare your recipes, load them into the camera & shoot photos with. It is very close or even better than the Fujifilm recipes concept.
I have exactly the same needs regarding my camera as yours. I tested different brands & i think finally the Lumix S5II is my champion.
You need to switch to a video light mate. I can see the Flicker... well annoying 😄
Nah, I just need to shoot at 1/50 instead of 1/60 at 30p. That’ll fix it.
why does the video have very good color and the photos does not
Guess, you missed out on the S5II ?
I cover this in the video you’ve commented on.
I guess I wouldn't mind being tortured in a medieval dungeon but of course only for a short time. I use an X-T5 with a red badge lens.
For camera gear I’ll do almost anything.
I love using the 16-55 2.8 on my XT4 personally.
lol. that intro tho 😂
