I have flown to SPA. Once on a Pilots-n-Paws mission, and another time doing a practice instrument approach. Nice airport. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Just wanted to say thank you!… Just got my PPL this week after some pretty intense five month training. Your videos were extremely helpful and gave some confidence to this midlife guy… Safe adventures and thanks again.
My first solo landing was amazingly smooth especially when my instructed landings were bumpy. The Hersey Bar laminar flow wing of my Cherokee 180 would abruptly quit if I didn't hold it off correctly. Took awhile to learn this. That landing was so smooth, I could hear the wheels rumble when they touched the runway but I actually didn't feel the landing. My confidence soared after that experience. I have to say that my instructor was a distraction during those first attempted landings. He didn't know when to shut up. He was a good pilot but didn't know how to teach. I changed instructors.
Brings back a lot of fond memories. All my cross country's were done using pilotage and VOR's (there was no GPS back then). Interesting part was getting invited into the tower to get my logbook signed. All my flight training was in Cherokee 140's and 151's.
I need to do another pilotage and dead reckoning flight. I hated all the planning when I was in training, but I really enjoyed the sense of knowing where I was during the flight. Cool to be invited into the tower! With covid, I've asked to come up a couple of times but been denied.
You asked “what’s your Favorite part of human flight”, I’d say what you just showed in you video. Climbing into an airplane, either solo or with pax, cranking her up and climbing into the blue sky. Going wherever I wish, when I wish and how I wish is just awesome. Nothing (for me anyway) can compare ✈️😁. Scott. KLZU
I am right behind you. I am considering the same path and have also decided on a Cherokee 140. I will be following you closely. Thanks for posting your journey!
Thanks for your encouraging words! I love my little 140. I wish you the best of luck on your journey. There are so many magical moments, but my favorite was the solo cross countries. Let me know what ends up being your favorite part!
Thank you! Yeah that was a while ago. And I now have an instrument rating in addition to my private pilot certificate. Oddly enough, just today I did a 190 mile flight ENTIRELY using pilotage and dead reckoning as I did in this video. Been a long time but it was really fun!
Great job. I remember my first solo cross country's well. A good feeling and accomplishment. I eventually went on to fly my PA-28-181 coast to coast and in all types of weather. The little place is a work horse.
Thanks! I love flying to travel. I now own a PA-28-140 that is not likely to be able to get coast to coast - at least not over the mountains. But after I complete my instrument rating in it, I will look to change to a more capable cross country machine.
Thanks for the encouragement. I agree that I handled it, but I still don't like that landing. There were very low winds that day and I was not pointed down the runway until right before touchdown. That's not something I want to become a habit.
So glad you asked "Cleared to Land" just to make sure - yeah, he's talking to you, but still that is the right thing to do when you aren't sure he said it (or if he never actually said it). Excellent job as always!
Just came across your channel so a little behind. But on the other hand, the timing is perfect as I am getting into my dual X-C training right now. Honestly, it is a struggle, but then so was everything else before this so I will just keep grinding away. Blue skies Geek.
Welcome! XC was my absolute favorite part of training! XC flying is still my favorite part of flying. I just flew solo from NC to WI to land at my hometown's GA airport. 637 nm, 6.5 hrs logged. Was absolutely awesome! And don't worry too much about the struggle. It took me 175 hours to get my private. I thought I was never going to be able to get there. If I can do it, you can do it.
@@1dullgeek Thanks for sharing that detail. I know some of those young kids in my school are going to lap me, but I am fine with that. In the end, I will be an equally good pilot with more experience.
Nice! Welcome to the club! But at the rate I'm going, you may finish your checkride before I do! I've been in checkride prep since september. There are a lot of reasons it's slowed down. I'm super ready to be finished.
I tried to do this way back in the Fall of 1980. Lasted for two semesters, dropped out and joined the military instead. Just turned 60 and soon to retire and feel what you are doing is what I could try again. I'd always felt I left something undone and has been in the back of my mind for a year now. If only I could commit to the $8,000 to $10,000 I'd need to spend.
Yeah it's definitely expensive. And I'm not stupid rich or anything. For me it was just a matter of deciding what other things I'd have to give up in order to be able to afford flight training. it's not been easy, but I'm happy with the choice.
Very cool video! Do you mind if I ask you what editing program you use? I would love to know how you put a little pointers on site for it since when you point out Florence and you draw the line to the runway, how do you do that?
Did you shut down at all and go to the bathroom. I did my second solo last week. I made sure I took care of business before I started back. Also, make sure you have extra water. I did not have enough water and was thirsty and dehydrated after I landed at my final home airport.
Congrats on your solo cross country! That was my absolute favorite part of flight training. Good luck on your checkride! On this one, I shut down at Florence and got out and stretched. Didn't need to use the bathroom. Although I did have a water bottle in the airplane.
No. That's pilotage. Dead reckoning is the calculations you make based on wind and airspeed and time to figure out how much fuel you have left to get to where you're going.
Superb job on the landing buddy. Nice choice of Lo-Fi music frm Stefan. I did reaction videos to his yt pilots are the worst & what yt pilots dnt share wit u awhile bac. Feel free to check em out. I've never been to LBT nor FLO. Besides passing LBT on I-95. Lol I see FLO is off of us hwy 76 frm I-20 business. It's too bad u didn't get a shot of South Of The Border. CLT's bravo airspace could be equivalent to ATL's busy bravo airspace. #salute!!!!!
I’m happy for you champ 💪🏾
Thanks
Nice flight.😊
Thank you!
Good to see your close to my home SPA good job sir.

Well prepared and executed.🙂
@@ronaldgarnes8809 Thank you!
Fun watching the real deal
Thanks!
I haven't soloed yet, your videos help.
Thanks! I'm glad they've helped. Have fun with your training!
Must of had a good right cross wind. Good job holding the yoke to the right.
Thanks!

Oh wow! This is a great comment! Thanks for such kind words.
And congrats on the PPL!

Nice! I'm glad you've figured out landings!
I eventually had to change instructors also. So I can relate.
Yes, the 180 is a bit nose heavy and you have to pull a bit harder to keep the nose up in the flare.
Sometimes you get the landings you can not feel and sometimes you get the Monday blue landings.
Nice commentary on your trip
Thanks

Yeah, I agree. I tried to make an open ended question but not a very good one.

You seemed to be ahead of the airplane entire flight. Good job!
The wonderful magic of editing! 😀

I think you were hard yourself with the landing. You adjusted accordingly. Good luck man. I hope you have a fun filled life flying around!

Thanks, bahd.

Thank you! And he did clear me to land earlier in part of the video that I edited out. But I couldn't remember and I didn't want a pilot deviation.
You are NAILING those landings!!!! Good job!
Thank you!
This is Great! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you!
Nice job.
Thank you!
Landed that puppy like a true pilot at lumberton, but I would of gone around just so I could of said I nailed it 😂👌🏾
LOL! I didn't know LBT had that reputation!

Good luck to you! Let me know how your journey turns out.
Looking good my friend.
Thank you, sir!
I got back in the airplane for the first time since that flight and... Oof. The rust builds fast!
Good job! Enjoyed following you on your journey. My journey begins today! Hard to believe I will get to your point but one day at a time. Good luck! 😊

Great Video! I enjoyed your flights both live and memorex.
Thanks! Looking forward to watching one of your flights in person!
Good Job I'll there some daty
Good luck!
Congrats, I used to own a PA 28 181 neat little airplane, took it to Mexico for some fishing many times.
Oh! Nice! I ended up buying a PA-28-140 that I'm going to use to finish my PPL training and go straight into instrument.
Thanks!
What did you replace it with?
I tried to do this way back in the Fall of 1980. Lasted for two semesters, dropped out and joined the military instead. I really love flying cross countries! Now I just need to get my license so that I can do more.
What is your favorite part of human flight?
Very cool video! Do you mind if I ask you what editing program you use? I would love to know how you put a little pointers on site for it since when you point out Florence and you draw the line to the runway, how do you do that?
Thanks. I use Davinci Resolve.
I have to fly my you know what to make sure I make all my maneuvers to ACS standards. Steep turns and so on.
Best of luck!

isn't dead reckoning. just looking outside the plane and using land marks to determine where your position is?
No. That's pilotage. Dead reckoning is the calculations you make based on wind and airspeed and time to figure out how much fuel you have left to get to where you're going.

Thanks. Yeah the landings at FLO and back at JQF were buttery. I'll have to check out your reaction videos
Likewise & thx👍🏾👌🏾
Thats funny, i fly out of jqf and post videos as well. Small world
It is a small world. Let's go flying sometime!
The skills in the airplane is going to be the hardest.
Thanks!
Is this country music I hear???? Yee haw!
big fan
Negative. Geek don't country.
Wait…your asking “am I clear to land” on base.
Technically I'm on final. And I'm just verifying that I was cleared to land. I couldn't remember if I was cleared so I was just checking.
Your good mate. Doing great job
@@BFETile Thanks!
im around concord
Nice! We should find some time to meetup at JQF
