The problem is this wanders into the exact gray area of speaker grouping where Google would have limited functionality because of patents in place by Sonos. This infringement is what cost Google tens of millions to Sonos just a couple years ago.

Hey Shortcircuit, for your battery tests you should test at the same perceived brightness (in nits) instead of 50% brightness. If the phone can get way brighter that means you won't have to have it at 50% brightness but can have it at 35% to have the same visuals and that makes the tablet come out better than it really would in real life.

I might make a video review for this tablet, because I love it so much.
To be fair, my biases are that I am in the Pixel ecosystem, my smart home is all google assistant based, AND I work from home and travel for work every few months.
Its lovely to just have this thing as a smart remote, controlling my home from one central hub that I can also pick up and walk around with in the morning and check emails, just great. The fit an finish are lovely, the bezels are the perfect size IMO, just to have something to hold on to. This is mostly my in between device so I will grab it when I'm on the couch and want to scroll articles, maybe check in with my productivity apps and I want a screen larger than my pixel 6 Pro, but don't want to sit at my desk and use my pc. I play tons of hearthstone on it and it runs better than on said Pixel 6 pro. I will straight up just unplug the base and plop it on my desk to play while I work or at my table to watch or read something while I sip coffee. The added smarthub functionality just means this thing is great in your hands or set down. I never felt like it needed MORE power (this isnt an iPad pro, kids), since the tasks I do on it are relatively light but really helpful in keeping me organized. My one issue would be the charging speed when taking it on the go, but to download some movies on this thing or play an offline game on a quick plane ride, this is more than you really need. A lot of people are down on this because it isnt a powerhouse like the iPad pro, but most people aren't editing videos on their iPad. Another gripe I have is with the base, I feel like it could've had a Bluetooth or wifi antenna and been great, but the fact that it doesn't just kind of makes it a "meh" brick. I would recommend it for anyone who wants a cool way to control their home while also getting a useful tablet to use as that "in-between" device and might not already have a competing tablet. It's definitely great for people in the pixel ecosystem and who have google assistant running their house.

Does it offer the same stuff that Nest hub offers? Meaning can I use it in the Good morning routine, set a spaghetti timer, and also connect to other Google smart devices to make a group? Currently I have Google home and Nest Hub in a group to amplify the sound through my apartment. This for me is important as those connections are vital whether to I purchase it or not

This makes zero sense when you can pick up an iPad Air with a desktop class M1 chip in it for a similar price.

IPad Air don’t have multi users, cannot be used specifically as a dock and it’s features like a nest hub or pixel tablet, doesn’t have a dedicated speaker, no side loading, the mic is straight up trash compared to the pixel tablet.

I could easily use this for work. I use G suite at work and this would be perfect. Everywhere I go is wifi so Late or 5g is not needed. Finally a tablet that is like my phone with a bigger screen.

Since in the Android world you only have $600 awesome tablets, something in between to compete with the base ipad is really needed. This and the Xiaomi Pad5 are actually devices under $400 that perform nicely as a gaming thing for your kids for example. Cheapest ipad new is the 2020 version with only 64gb here for $380. If you want an Ipad with 128gb or more you have to pay $550 or more, even for models from 2 years ago. So, if they don't charge crazy for the minimum storage you actually want on a device like this, it's a good price!

What a fascinating device. Except, I have an Amazon Fire HD and that thing uses Qi to charge. _Sure_ Amazon has its own docking solution for that but it's a luxury option that gets stomped _by price_ compared to a decent Qi charger meant to hold the device upright, _and_ most work through Amazon's "Kid friendly" case. I have every intention of seeing if Amazon has cheap recent models for Prime Day.

In Australia it came out at $899 but they offered a $215 store credit if you pre ordered so you could essentially get a case or second dock for free.
Biggest let down is the speaker dock has no cast function on its own, so if your playing music throughout the house with other casted devises and take the tablet off the dock it cuts the music in that room.

I've recently noticed that ShortCircuit has never featured any HyperX products, is there something specific for why or just a coincidence? Their products are generally good and a great option for its prices.

@@GH0STST4RSCR34M Not on every product, because they actually rebrand pretty decent products (mostly headphones), however they triple the price from the original. That's why people that never had a decent pair of headphones generally like Cloud II (Takstar Pro 80/82), Cloud Orbit S (Audeze Mobius), etc. They are usually competent, but they are VERY overpriced.

It would've been nicer if they came out with a line of tablets and docks at differing price points/feature sets that you could mix and match. Also, Android needs dedicated Home controls baked in, either in the notification shade or a persisting tab on the homepage. Using the app is so inconvenient for small or incremental changes, and voice commands aren't perfect all the time either.

Great idea with the dock and detachable tablet but the price is just a little to much especially because you can pick up a Google Nest Hub for about €70 or even for about €50 on sale.
Also to add further salt to injury where I live the markup for these is pretty ridiculous, for the basic 128GB model you are looking at roughly €700, that works out to be about 780 USD

The dealbreaker for me was if the hub could be used as a media output for the tablet. Such a dumb, shortsighted decision that will result in landfills full of ewaste for no reason other than a slightly slightly slightly smaller initial cost.

$500 is steep? US has the cheaper price by far. UK start at £600 which is currently $762. And the 256GB version is nearly $900 (£700)!! Can you imagine if the marketing and reviews were actually talking about the prices in Europe? This would flop instantly.

I was dead set on buying this tablet and even went to curry's to get hands on. They didn't have one in stock, luckily. Later I found out that it doesn't have GPS! I do a lot of travelling so GPS is essential. My Galaxy Tab from 2019 will have to last a bit longer.
