Thank you Don Juan de Matus. Thank you Carlos Castañeda. Thank you Toltec Warrior.
I testify here the Toltec Way is real and the path of Total Freedom.
There's no limits to the Power and it's an ordinary life shattering reality.
One can't emerge of the first punch of the Nagual unchanged,
    and it's a life-long arduous, stiff and wonderfull Art/Mastery.
The Art of Dreaming. The Mastery of Intent. The Mastery of Stalking.
May the road rise with you.

You should defenetly read the last book too, it reveals a lot & makes extra sense of the prior ones...the english title was "the active side of infinity",
or "the effects/works of, like it's called in my language infinity"
Would be very interesting to read his books in different languages to compare the words used in those different prints...like me, I should read them besides german also in english & spanish...unfortunately my spanish skills aren't good enough to even try

I read an excerpt of his book back in 1976, in English class, while attending college. I was enthralled and at the same time mystified. I then went out, bought and read his first three books at least twice. afterwards I went on my own spiritual journey in which I learned much but was, as well, mislead. At the age of 50 I reread his first three books again and then read all of his 9 books. I must be honest and state here that the first four where, by far, my favorite. No matter what the reality is regarding Don Juan and his relationship to Castaneda, for me, his books have had a most positive and profound influence. These, have been for me, works of a literary genius that has challenged my limited and, if you will, squared thinking. May you far well, Castaneda!

Thank you for posting this wonderful interview!
Full disclosure: Reading CC's first four books in the early-to-mid 1970s altered the course of my life, literally. I went looking for someone like Juan Matus in Mexico in 1978 and spent two years on the road. I was disheartened by Richard de Mille's exposé, but could not dispute that his work uncovered many inconsistancies in Casteneda's narrative.
Even if Carlos only dreamnt it, or even if he made it up, the stories (in the first four volumes, at least) are fabulous!
In this 1969 interview, a chink in Casteneda's armor appears early on. The third question posed by the interviewer, Theodore Roszak, occurs at 7:05 in the tape -
"Does he (don Juan) have any formal livelihood? How does he earn his way in the world?" Roszak asks.
"Um... (three seconds pass as Carlos attempts to form a reply) I, I'd, I wouldn't be, uh, uh, able to, uh, to, uh, to discuss that. Rather, I don't think I could, at the moment."
Casteneda purports to have known don Juan for nine years at the time this interview was conducted, yet he has no straightforward answer to this simple question. Was he never asked that before? Really? Fortunately for CC, Roszak resisted the temptation to press him further on the matter.
Apart from that blip, it's a fascinating interview.

Perhaps in revealing that it would give too big a clue as to DJ whereabouts at the time. Or perhaps Castaneda felt he needed DJ's permission to answer that personal question. Alternately, the Toltec path stresses letting go of personal identity.

Don Juan tells Carlos in Tales of Power that he is a stock holder when explaining how he afforded his new bespoke suit. I've known many old men for years without knowing how they made their bones. Just because he fumbles the question doesn't show that he's lying. Pablito also refers to how don Juan had worked for him in carpentry for a few months.

Well if someone asked you to disclose how a great friend of yours makes a living, I think you may be hesitant to be so indiscreet too....none of your business ! In one of the books, I think in Tales Of Power, ''the day of the Tonal'' , Don Juan meets him in a town all dressed in a suit ! This in itself is quite a shock to CC. And Don Juan says he is attending to some business in the town, hence the attire. So...private business...

Of course there was a time when Castenada was vilified by academics who's sole purpose in life was to maintain the status quo. They had the power to do this because one had to be specifically looking for information on psychedelics, so therefor only a few of us would ever stand to challenge the stability of their ivory towers. Now however with the advent of the WWW more of the world's population are becoming aware of the fact that reality as is understood by our rational is only one possible path of our existence. By being drawn into the works of say Graham Hancock for example the popular is becoming more and more aware of the fact that our esteemed academics are able to prove or disprove

I came 2 the US to study w. Castaneda. My opinion is that the Man was brilliant, a master entertainer & a powerful story teller. As an apprectice of Tensegrity there was a degree of unpleasant environment amongst practitioners,an air of ruthless competition & so forth< but that was minor. An uninformed, incorrect comment below says that all the close apprentices commited suiside. Castaneda may of not been a man of Light &Love, but his teachings were priceless. I had amazing experiences of growth

    • @ScorpIron58

Would you say that the courses , and indeed the Invention, of Tensegrity, were Carlos' way of continuing the teachings ? Were the movements used shown to Carlos , along with a lot of other stuff he left out of the books (as he explains in the recommencing of publishing after the 4th book/ gap of years) and their importance only realised later. Though from what Carlos says in this interview, he kept visiting Don Juan after he had ''quit'' the apprenticeship, so did this time overlap with the Tensegrity courses development? I find this very intriguing , and that all the women disbanded on Carlos' death. Because in the books, Don Juan tells him that he will be the Nagual from then on (on Don Juans ''disappearance'') . So the story and actuality don't seem to agree here ....? The fact that most of the women disappeared without trace is incredible too....did they ''Leave'' ?!

I read the first three or four books in the late 1980's as a typical stoner teenager. I just re-read "Journey to Ixtlan" and was surprised to discover the correlations with Buddhism. Don Juan shattered Carlos' ego, or at least did his best to try. Erasing personal history, "seeing, dreaming, and stalking", through which one learns to become aware of the "world" beyond what the physical senses and the ego allow us to experience, and the idea of "stopping the world", are taught in Tibetan Buddhism.

Larry Holcomb what's funny is I read a book by OSHO titled Buddha, Zen, Tao, Tantra and then I was introduced to Carlos's books. My mind was blown at the correlation between the two, the truth is that love is the glue that ties all our spiritual abilities together and culture doesn't change the fact that we have great power which is revealed to us all through light, the only way to use these powers fully is to break from what this world considers proper and normal behavior and rather to focus on OURselves and learn to let go of our SELF to find the greater connection.

Before i sound like im trying to convince anyone, i wanted to say that im a very objective, analytical girl. Now, 5 years ago i started to experience a lot of not ordinary dreams. By not ordinary i mean dreams where my consciousness was there. I was aware of everything and i discussed with people that i know some powerful things like: we have to operate from the heart more. We have a journey etc. And cordons of lights where everywhere going out from our bodies. For a long time i started to change and i coudnt go out and i used to cry all the time. I was wearing only white clothes. I changed radically and i hated that because it started impending my career and outside world. Everything that was happening i did not do anything to trigger that. At least not consciously. After those years all those dreams started to manifest. Whatever i do smth pulls me back to those and i was in a deep depresion because i am afraid it was just an imaginary world and smth is wrong with me. A professor suggested me The Art of Dreaming. I skipped it for a long time. I decided to read it few days ago. I started to cry. I have done many of those things but not wanting to. I dont know why they happened. But now that im starting to accept them more i feel i have a part in allowing this. And i understand when he says they seem real. They are real. They are frightening real. I really hope we can evolve. If anyone is in this path please let's keep in touch and never surrender. By my experience is very hard to accept. But i now believe it didnt show to me without a reason.

An important change in the Toltec tradition is the shift from fear based to love based teachings. The early writers, especially Castaneda, described the need for personal power to use in defense against attack from all manner of forces, seen and unseen. Castaneda often describes himself shaking in terror, waiting for some force or entity to attack him.

Knowledge implies that you know. Let me ask you something? What do you know? Personally I know, that I know absolutely nothing except that one day my body will be worn out and I will leave this reality. So you see, when you let go of the idea that there is a controller, an I, an ego - you let go of knowing and begin to feel. When you begin to feel what you call knowledge, instead of thinking it, that is where the magic starts happening. Knowing also implies thinking, which is a linear construct, "did you think this through" - meaning you begin a thought from one end and you think it through coming to a conclusion in the end. But my dearest friend, here is where the cookie crumbles: You, life itself is not linear, you are cyclical and the circle has no ends, it is infinite. Force nothing and go with the flow of the harsh river that is life - if you fight against the current instead of swimming with it, you will never cross the river. Bruce Lee said it very well: "You must be shapeless, formless, like water." There is no knowledge, only memory. We are all one and the same, life experiencing itself from more than 7.6 billion views at once, and that is just counting human life. The very reason that you do not have e.g. 5 human bodies at the same time, is that the human mind would not be able to cope with that - imagine having 5 minds all chattering to you at the same time, it would just be noise then. This is the very reason of the illusion of I. To let yourself experience life from one side at a time, while at the same time experiencing it from all sides but separated and yet not separated. We as a whole are an infinitely faceted diamond, with each facet being someones face which in reality is another reflection of you, life. What happens for the most part when you smile at someone?
      LOVE
      J

As I perceive it, in taking hallucination causing substances, it makes a huge difference if one is aware of different levels of awareness and existence, or not. Not having a reference point is horrific and destructive, for someone under that influence. See what I mean? We can get lost in a new unknown world, or know to find our way, by the presence of an inner point of stillness or presence. That's why a true shaman with integrity is valuable, maybe even necessary, in order to assist in an interpretation of such an unusual experience, for the one who is subject to it. Just like a witness can be comforting in someone's catharsis.

If you look at the people who obey Jesus's teaching like the Amish and many other peaceful Communities like the hundreds of thousands of peaceful Christians who have been murdered in the middle east recently by ISIS. you see those wonders being crucified like He was.

2 things have been in my mind about Carlos lately: 1.- its a terribly ironic situation that Peruvian-born Carlos left his native country which has a millenary tradition of witches and sorcerers and ended up in California to be trapped inside another millenary tradition of witches and sorcerers from Mexico. 2.- Without doubt Carlos reached unsurpassed heights in his nagual training and development but he had to carry to the end many of his shortcomings pinpointed by Don Juan continously : )

Much of what Castaneda writes and states is clearly true from a Yaqui perspective, while some of it differs from what my mom taught me, about how to handle and prepare yerbas, especially mandrake root, energy centers, etc. But, these are just some items from one culture attempting to communicate with another. Translation is so iffy, but all should know there are different realities and they vary from person to person and incident to incident--you can't bottle up life.

For those that may need clarification Don Juan gave Carlos drugs to loosen his assemblage point. This is only done for thosethat have a very ridge belief system. All of the other students of Don Juan's did not need drugs to break free from that point.
(Carol Tiggs, Tasha etc...) The point of perception begins at that point and the worlds of unknown perceptions to us are many like layers of an onion. To completely understand these new perceptions available to us takes tons of energy. Talking about this is not going to break free to achieve these new perceptions. You must repeat this practice daily until the chains that bind your
normal everyday perception break down and your normal world becomes a new world every bit as real as your daily Monday and Tuesday. The magic is our daily world (tonal) is a tiny fraction of what can be perceived by all humans. Just because you don't see that truth doesn't mean it's not real. Most people how have a deeply rooted belief system are afraid that there is more than what meets the eye. They would rather ridicule it and say its a fraud as that makes them feel safe.

I have something better than the fraud. I have many beautiful synchronicities and premonitions and other experiences that have broken me from a local awareness only consciousness but charity is more important. However my experiences have happened when I began to hope in and confessed the power of that hope that the expressed image only begotten son of the eternal uncreated father cause of all gave me.
To try to get into that world another way is dangerous and temporal. The gospel has its own recapitulation far beyond anything the alleged Don Juan taught.
Believing Castaneda (or having a perversion of Christianity or anything else) makes you feel you have something when you don't. Carlos revealed some interesting occult knowledge but the stories he couched it in are something he himself could not appropriate. If I was going to use death as my advisor I wouldn't waste my time eating out and going to movies... He was nothing like his alleged teacher. He seemed like a nice guy indulgent academic and storyteller with some knowledge.

    • @StardotTechnologies
      @StardotTechnologies 5 лет назад +3

Learn dreaming awake. It makes it possible to enter dreaming anytime you like. Procedure: Stop that internal dialogue 24 hours a day, permanently. After a few days of absolute hell, find a room you can darken. Cover leds with aluminum tape, and seal up windows and doors. From silence, watch the darkness for colors. You'll find them eventually. Expect to practice 2 hours a night minimum for a while. Once you can see colors, scoop them with your hand by putting it next to them (visually), and turning your head and hand at the same time, to give the illusion you're moving them onto your stomach.
If you get a very bright puff of color (purple and reddish orange are common), try to compress it with your hands, like it was a ball of dough.
Eventually the colors will behave like real objects and remain where put.
Then go find Zuleica's technique in Eagle's gift and read about how to scoop the colors onto your second attention's assemblage point. You'll restore your second attention's energy body, and entering dreaming directly from awake will become possible.
I can stop the world at will, assemble other worlds, manipulate don Juan's allies (Carlos left them to us in private classes), and "see" energy.
In other words, Carlos wasn't making stuff up.
Thanks to Toltec Warrior if he puts up with my presence here. I'm trying to correct the misconceptions about Castaneda.

After my dad was killed by a car accident in 1975, I flipped out and had some experiences similar to Carlos and Don Juan, and Don Genaro. I firmly believed that if I slammed a karate chop into a light pole, I would shatter the light, and not feel a thing. I hit the pole, looked up, and saw what looked like glass shattering, and the light blinked out. I also felt nothing at all from my extreme blow. I believe I entered that crack between the worlds, as can only be done under a severely altered mindset. I also believed I was Jesus, and had magical powers that everyone but myself was able to witness. Our minds create our reality, but the fabric of that reality is already there, like props to use in our construction. Allies, benefactors, agreements from the world, memories of events and people from past and future lives, dreams, music, drugs- all tools to remove the outside layer of awareness, and to 'see'.

"If there were someone like Don Juan he would be enlightened, he would be like a Buddha or a Lao Tzu - but there is nobody like Don Juan. Carlos Castaneda's books are ninety-nine per cent fiction - beautiful, artful, but fiction. As there are scientific fictions, there are spiritual fictions also.
There are third-rate spiritual fictions and first-rate ones: if you want third-rate, then read Lobsang Rampa; if you want first-rate, then read Carlos Castaneda. He is a great master - of fiction.
But I say ninety-nine per cent fiction. One per cent of truth is there, hidden here and there; you will have to find it. It is good even to read it as fiction. Don't bother about Rampa's fiction, because it is rubbish created by a mediocre mind - and of course created for mediocre minds. But Carlos Castaneda is worth reading. When I say fiction I don't mean don't read him, I mean read him more carefully, because one per cent of truth is there. You will have to read it very carefully, but don't swallow it completely because it is ninety-nine per cent fiction.
It can help your growth - it can create a desire to grow. That's why I say it is beautiful. But it can hinder growth also if you take it at its surface value.
This man Carlos is really crafty, very clever. Rarely it happens, such cleverness - because it is very easy to create scientific fiction, not much imagination is needed, but to create spiritual fiction is very very difficult; one needs a great artistic and imaginary mind. Because things you don't know, how can you even imagine them? That's why I say one per cent of truth is there. On that one per cent of truth he has been able to create a big edifice. On that one per cent of truth he has been able to project much imagination. On that one iota of truth he has made the whole house, a beautiful palace - a fairy tale. But that one per cent of truth is there, otherwise it would have been impossible.
So one per cent of Don Juan must be there somewhere or other. He must have met somebody; maybe his name was Don Juan, maybe not, that is not material, that doesn't matter. Carlos has come across a being superior to himself, he has come across a being who knows some secrets.
Maybe he has not realized them, maybe he has stolen them, maybe he has just borrowed them from someone else. But he has met somebody who has somehow got some facts of spiritual life and this man has been able to create imagination around it. And the imagination becomes possible if you use drugs as a help - very easy, because drugs are nothing but an aid to imagination.
This man has come across some being who knows something, and then through drugs he has projected that small truth into imaginary worlds. Then his whole fiction is created. It is a drug trip, but a good experiment in itself. And when I say all these things I am not condemning Carlos. In fact I have come to love the man. It is a rare flight of imagination, and if it is a hundred per cent fiction then Carlos himself is a rare being. If he has not come across anybody at all then he must have that one per cent of reality in himself. Because otherwise it is impossible - you can only build a house on a foundation, even an imaginary house needs at least a foundation in reality. You can make a house of cards but at least the ground, the solid ground is needed. That much is true.
So read, because you will have to read. Every age has its own fictions, romances; one has to pass through them. You will have to read. You cannot escape Carlos Castaneda. But remember that only one per cent is true - and you have to find it."

and besides whether he is real or not is entirely beside the point

honestly I think that the descriptions of them doing peyote are so real there is no way you can fake a story like that.

I used to live in Peru - a lot of Mestizos like to describe themselves as European/Spanish etc even though they have more indigenous blood.

Don Juan dice en uno de sus libros que el Hombre no tiene amigos en la Tierra (somos destructores) En las circunstancias actuales, 2021, comprobamos que incluso el Hombre es un Lobo para el Hombre

As much as challenges and tests, offered to our body, emotions and soul, are present in ordinary life, it's even more significant, maybe an unavoidable neccessity, in a warrior's path in life. That is, coming from a background like the one of Carlos Castaneda or any other Western modern life oriented person. It's of course very different for a native, born in the shaman's tribe, learning the ropes from birth, sort of.
Passing through the portal, symbolically, or proceed through a "dark night of the soul" call it what you choose for it, is often an essential process in growing out of our limitations, finding freedom. It all depends on our ability and level of awareness, our being awake.
Apart from our limitations in our human attitude and our ego survival, in essence there's nothing to fear, as I perceive it. Fear is part of living under instinctual reign, ignoring the value of what's hidden in it. Allowing an outer authority to rule us, is asking for trouble, isn't it? Power can be used and abused, here on planet Earth. Count your blessings by discerning the games of power, within and without.
Most often it's our own projection on the outside world, or a person, or God? that causes us to be in fear. For isn't it what our mind tells us to choose as truth, as real, that causes us to break into sweat and heart palpilations and to go in a fight and flight mode?
Be surprised, when finding, being in such a state of fear, that you can stop, breathe and see what happens, what opens up for you. That's breaking through the veil that covers most of planet Earth these days, as I perceive it.

I love the idea that this shamanic lineage of knowledge could, over many hundreds of years, even thousands, create almost a science of sorts from tripping when it seems spontaneously weird and random

19:20 "You flew as a man flies ...all there is in reality is what you *felt*".
OBEs are more than imagination...seers can report on events occurring at a distance.

Men are afraid of the unknown. Making fun of all this knowledge is a basic way to reassure themself, like kids do.
It's also a ruse to justify sloth and indolence for keeping a confortable way of life.
There is good news and bad news.
Bad news : there is only one way to know if all this is "real" : walk the path and experiment by yourself !
Good news : not everybody can do the miracles Don Juan was doing, but there is one everybody can build with a little bit of discipline and patience : a real and lasting peace of mind whatever the circomstances you're crossing !
The deal is not to change the world with a magic wand, because it's perfect as it is. The deal is to change the relations we have with the world (and it starts with people around us) to unlock new potentials. This is a recurring theme in Castaneda's books.
