My heart hurt a little when I read God's response to their request for a king. Yet, I know how often I've done the very same thing, rejecting the thing that makes me different in order to "fit in". How convicting! I'm reminded me of the words of Jesus in John 15:18 "If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you." The heartbreak our God must have felt, and yet He never gave up on them (or us)! What a long-suffering, faithful and loving father we serve!
Amen!
My first thought was, boy, the Israelites never learn BUT then I was instantly convicted because I am just like them at times. I doubt, question, ignore, look to myself for the answers, and yet God.....

Same
God won’t be manipulated, and He won’t hide His glory. The Israelites don’t consult God, but instead drag the Ark into battle to force Him to give them victory. But God doesn’t work like that. If I “stand on the promises of God” and say that my faith is strong enough that God must heal my loved one, I’m trusting not in Him but in the power of my faith. When God doesn’t heal my loved one, it is because He has another plan. And He won’t hide His glory: He will knock down the idols of my life (as He did with Dagon), and make His presence unmistakably known (as He did with the milk cows towing the Ark). Even, or especially, when God doesn’t do what I think He should, I need to recognize His actions in my life and thank Him in worship.
Wow so much to process. I love it! My God shot was when Samuel went before the Lord on behalf of his people and sacrificed a lamb. It made me think of Jesus ❤ He is the Lamb of God ❤

God, accepting Israel's rejection of Him was sad to read, but I still had hope that it was all part of His plan to bring KING Jesus through the genealogical line of David. Glory Hallelujah 🙌
Hearing all that Israel did and how they behave, makes me think of them today and all that they are going through!! Also in my own life, I have also praised thim, seeked him and keep falling short of how I should live and behave!!! Stuberness I guess would be the right word!! God Have Mercy on me and on Israel!!!
I can't wait for that day, when all knees bow to King Jesus

The incident in the temple of Dagon made me think of Isaiah 42:8. God will not give His glory to another, nor His praise to graven images.
Right, truth is the demons tremble at his name, they recognize he is to be worshipped

It wasn't Dagon's hands and feet. It was Dagon's hands and HEAD! 😂 Very symbolic!
Was wondering if anyone else caught that mistake. Hope TLC will correct that next go around or at lest address it in the monthly roundup.
I couldn't understand why the Levites didn't transport the Ark of the Covenant. That was my first thought. My 2nd time through with T L C. and i just thought of this. I also thought, the Israelites saw other lands with kings/rulers, spent time with the pharaoh and yet, give us a king. Samuel told them will happen. Yet.....
1 Samuel 4-8
Today Israel goes to war with the Philistines. They lose and they attribute this loss to God. 
They don’t draw near to God and consult Him. They take the ark of the covenant, as somewhat of a lucky charm, into battle with them.
Eli’s wicked sons help carry it into the battle. 30,000 men die.
A messenger goes back to Shilo to tell Eli the news.The battle has been lost, his sons are dead and the ark of the covenant has been captured.
Having the ark of the covenant stolen was a tremendous loss for all of Israel. At this news, Eli fell backwards, broke his neck and died.
The philistines leave the ark of God in their pagan temple. The next morning their idol of Dagon is broken into pieces.
The people are struck with tumors because of having the ark. They move the ark from city to city and each city is affected. 
The philistines hook two milk cows up to a cart to carry the Ark back to Israel. If the milk cows go towards Israel instead of back to their calves they will know it is supernatural.
The cows go directly to Israel. 
The Ark arrives in Israel and the people are excited. They sacrifice the milk cows. However, only male bulls were allowed to be sacrificed. They carelessly open the ark to look inside. God strikes them down. 
The Levites knew what was required.
The people of Israel begin to repent.
Samuel who is the prophet, priest, and judge tell the people to make their repentance, complete and faithfully worship God alone.
If they do this God will deliver them from the Philistines. During this time the Philistines move into attack Israel. 
The enemy loves to attack when we move in obedience,
God gives Israel victory.
Samuel sets up a stone memorial there, which he names Ebenezer, which means thus far the Lord has helped me.
Samuel makes regular trips to all the cities to make sure they are abiding by the laws set up.
However Samuel sons do not worship the Lord. They are unjust judges.
The people request a king.
God says to give the people what they want. It will not go well for them.
God ways are always right and true. They bring us closer to Him.
Where does fear of Man drive me more than fear of God?
We want to be driven by love of God.
Ignorance of the law is not an excuse.
It makes me laugh to read how the Philistines' god, Dagon, fell on its face after they placed the ark of God next to it.
God warned the people about what a king will do to them, but they don't listen and persist in asking for one, so He gives them what they ask for.
