Tim, your work ethic, hustle, and marketing skills are legendary. I remember seeing interviews and case studies about tactics you used to make your projects successful. Do you think entrepreneurs are somewhat cheated when the people they look up to preach, "follow your passion! take risks!" without sharing the secret sauce of their hyper growth tactics? You're easily one of the most generous, tactic-oriented guys just out there, just wondering your opinion.
This is a goldmine of information, I will continue to absorb over time. I would love to hear a small talk on how to control money after you've begun your business, this seems like a conversation that very few people have. It seems like it would be easy to drown in success if you had no idea how to leverage it. Thank you for your contributions, Mr. Ferriss.

Tim, I can’t thank you enough for producing this content. I’ve owned my own business for a year and a half and your wisdom and tips are helping me through a hard time! I naturally gravitate towards effectiveness as a person but my nurture has taught me efficiency and being a busy body. By modeling an effective lifestyle and sharing these tips, you are helping me overcome the model I was taught and step into my true self and destiny!

I have been searching for someone to say this very thing long time.
All the points Tim makes here are great, however, there are times he almost has these Zen-like thoughts and one can be found here. Tim says, "Indiscriminate action is reflective of too little thinking & planning and that is lazy. It is the most destructive form of lazy because it is socially reinforced and people encourage you to do that. They will say "don't just sit there, do something." If you're constantly doing things that are not well thought through you'll end up specializing in unimportant things. You'll become an expert in doing trivial things well." I have felt that way so many times working for others and had anxiety about not always looking busy. I'll be pinning this one to my wall. Thanks, Tim!

Tim, this morning I stumbled across your interview on Morning Brew. After, watched two of your videos, including the above. Your guidance regarding starting a business essentially is what I experienced starting my first service corporation back in the early 80s. As founder and CEO, I operated and built that business into a North American competitor over forty plus years, before retiring it six years back. During that time, I started and sold two other businesses. I enjoyed and could relate to your experience on many levels, only my experiences began back in the 70s, including the effects of psychedelics. I hope your audience listened closely, especially to when you say, if they don't have time to read, they probably should pass on starting a business. Thank You!
I really felt that you said, indiscriminate action is a destructive form of laziness and you become an expert at working hard on trivial things. I really needed to hear that.

I thank you for introducing me to the book called 22 Immutable Laws of Marketing, it made me see something that I had been thinking about and that is, "The basic issue in marketing is to create a category in which you can be first. Law of Leadership: It is better to be first than to be the best. It's much easier to penetrate in mind first than trying to convince someone to switch to a better product than than the one who first penetrated the mind." Thank you very much. Good year
@17:00 Mind blowing - "Indiscriminate action is reflective of too little thinking and planning and that is lazy. one of the most destructive form of laziness because that is socially reenforced and people will encourage you to do that."
If you want to be successful at this-and I'm sure you do-then you'll need to differentiate yourself from the other 500-million self-improvement "gurus" out there that think starting a self-improvement business is an easy, fast and fun way to get rich. Hint: It's not. If you want to be successful, I recommend only posting TRULY cutting-edge content-the best-of-the-best, practical and unique content. Otherwise, you'll get lost in the ocean of unoriginal, wannabe self-improvement gurus out there, and never get noticed. It's going to take a lot of work. If you're serious about this and interested in going deeper, I recommend Cal Newport's book So Good They Can't Ignore You. That will give you a solid advantage over all the other fly-by-night self-improvement "gurus" out there.
Thank you for this video. Right now I'm finding myself in this situation where I'm too busy not getting anything accomplished mainly because I've accepted roles based on friendships and it has already costed me several opportunities and a lot of money. Hopefully I can get these tasks off my shoulders by the end of this month and I can really focus on my PM classes and start consuming these books for q4 of this year.
I seriously thought he had a black headband on until I read the comments. Nevertheless, so true about 1000 true fans. Why create something you don't care about? If I'm spending time to learn about something I better damn well enjoy it.
I don't mean to be mean :) however I am now starting a podcast and learning a lot about how to be a good presenter. I was surprised to realise you mumble a lot! It is pretty encouraging to hear that. Because I do mumble and this realisation gave me a hope.
Hi Tim Ferris I Love this video, you have mentioned the most important factors of creating a business. It helps me to come up with new ideas for a business. It includes marketing and to analyze the small things that make a business a five-star one. Has mentioned in the video, it is important to spend time and read more about the business that someone is trying to start. Your positivity inspires me to keep wanting to accomplish my dreams to make them come true.
Wow, this is the definition of the phrase "timeless advice". Just take a look, if you start reacting on when this video published, you will be 5 years in your entrepreneurial path. Amazing content! ❤️
It’s nice when you stumble across a comments section where the people can discuss without getting heated and insulting and people are helping each other out. If you’re reading this, I hope you have a great day. You matter. You’re important. You probably can’t comprehend your effect on other people in the world but it is huge. One smile and showing someone you care even a little bit could change their life forever. Be the change you want to see in the world Anyway it might sound stupid and basic. But life is all about the basics. I used to think basic meant easy but that just ain’t true. It turns out a lot of seemingly basic things are actually quite difficult and difficult to master. Anyway have a good day. I love you. How ya goin?
This is so brilliant and EXACTLY WHAT I NEED TO REMEMBER. As long as you like it and are a fan then that is fine. Just be content with being great not huge .
Amazing content. Thank you, Tim Ferriss. "If you want to succeed in business, If you simply have an easily differentiated product. You can explain it simply - You focus on one thousand true fans - And you have clear measurable objectives with check-ins, say every week, every month, every quarter or all the above, to track your performance in those key performance indicators or key metrics you are ahead of 99% of all the people trying to start a business."
Always good advice, from an obviously successful man. Of course, many are choosing to focus on your hat and criticize. Loved 4 Hour Work Week! It was a disruptor. Thanks for the insights.
Found this video only now, 3 years into my biz, but so glad to see you recommending Vagabonding as a "go to" to course correct. I'll get to the copy I bought in Aug 2011 to spark that ray of light back into what I'm doing. BTW, you're a great inspiration and one of my favourite speakers. Thank you for your work!
Great video, Tim! I really enjoy these kind of laid-back videos where you talk about virtually anything. I'll definitely check those books out, although some I already knew about (the 80/20 principle and Vagabonding). Thanks for sharing your philosophy with us.
The hardest part for me has been not knowing what to focus on. I work as a Software Tester, I crochet amigurumi as a hobby, I love them both, I also love writing and drawing, and filming and editing videos. It's so hard to know what to start a business on when you have multiple passions but don't feel like you master any of them. I know people that are better at everything I do, so I always wonder "why would they follow me?" I guess I need to read all those books haha
I love the concept of creating your own category. Russel Brunson and Steve Scott talk about it too. Also- gotta understand your market and solve their problems. And yea EFFECTIVE- is the way to go. 😎

I thank you for introducing me to the book called 22 Immutable Laws of Marketing, it made me see something that I had been thinking about and that is, "The basic issue in marketing is to create a category in which you can be first.
Law of Leadership: It is better to be first than to be the best. It's much easier to penetrate
in mind first than trying to convince someone to switch to a better product than
than the one who first penetrated the mind." Thank you very much. Good year
I wonder sometimes how can someone be this Wise and Intelligent.
Tim is the most fantastic person I have come across on internet. Keep it up.
I love you tim, you changed my life.
Thank you Tim, for sharing this episode! Your insight is greatly appreciated.
Mr. Ferris, you are the mentor I have been looking for. Thank you for your contribution to humanity. RR
@17:00 Mind blowing - "Indiscriminate action is reflective of too little thinking and planning and that is lazy. one of the most destructive form of laziness because that is socially reenforced and people will encourage you to do that."
This is quite a coincidence since I have recently started a channel on self-improvement. Thanks Tim!
Out of everything you can do, you do self-improvement...like the thousands of other wannabes out there
Create a "New" category and OWN IT
That is fair, thanks for the feedback!
The Kaizen Project don't listen to the naysayers. Do what you love.
4 hour this that lmaooo. Tim is my #1 mentor. 100% brother. I will make you proud.
Your style of explaining your ideas is very attractive and convincing. Thank you for this so helpful advice.
Thank you for your precious time and guidance.
I seriously thought he had a black headband on until I read the comments. Nevertheless, so true about 1000 true fans. Why create something you don't care about? If I'm spending time to learn about something I better damn well enjoy it.
Hella Bella the more I think about it the more I start to believe that the beanie was a brillant marketing 💡
Nice comment Hella Bella! Your words are my words. :-)
I literally cant read a Book about a subject that doesn't interest me , i cant
I can hardly do it with a subject i like.
Did he just film this in one take? The guy's so focused and so clear in his head it's crazy.
Lol youre right, I didnt even realize, so focused on taking notes. Insane.
Tim, you have a great mind. Please do the world a favor and have a child to pass it on.
You ended the vid with some big ass value i haven’t heard yet before. Love it. And you even more
Might be the most important video on YT. Thanks Tim!
Thank you so much for sharing this gold. Seriously rare to get such genuine tips, especially from someone who is legitimately successful.
I don't mean to be mean :) however I am now starting a podcast and learning a lot about how to be a good presenter. I was surprised to realise you mumble a lot! It is pretty encouraging to hear that. Because I do mumble and this realisation gave me a hope.
Hi Tim Ferris
I Love this video, you have mentioned the most important factors of creating a business.
I like the idea of not having to become a giant in someone’s else’s genre, you can create your own 👏
Good way of putting it
these 18 minutes were the best time of my day
Tim, you have helped me so much and continue to do so. I am going to meet you and try to give something of value back to you!
Hi Tim - Thank-you for this advice, especially the fundamentals of starting a BUSINESS (8:28-8:44).
It was super useful
It’s nice when you stumble across a comments section where the people can discuss without getting heated and insulting and people are helping each other out. If you’re reading this, I hope you have a great day. You matter. You’re important. You probably can’t comprehend your effect on other people in the world but it is huge. One smile and showing someone you care even a little bit could change their life forever. Be the change you want to see in the world
Anyway it might sound stupid and basic. But life is all about the basics. I used to think basic meant easy but that just ain’t true. It turns out a lot of seemingly basic things are actually quite difficult and difficult to master.
Anyway have a good day. I love you. How ya goin?
"Alles mit Maß und Ziel". Could listen to that all day long :)
Tim, you are an absolute inspiration!
Literally added every book to my cart. Thanks, Tim!
I love the feeling inside when I know all that is under my nose and in hands reach!
Thanks for sharing your philosophy with us.
major kudos for the lines Tim throws in at 16:45
Tim was definitely high when he made this one!
Thanks Tim!
On what? Modafinil?
Tim is all about efficiency I love it!
Always enjoy Tim's honesty, reading ideology and logic. Thanks for the great tips
I love you Tim. Thank you for all that you do brother
Love this dude, he is so genuine and straight up
The hardest part for me has been not knowing what to focus on.
There might be more experienced than you but they are not where the opportunity is. You are...
I love the concept of creating your own category. Russel Brunson and Steve Scott talk about it too. Also- gotta understand your market and solve their problems. And yea EFFECTIVE- is the way to go. 😎
proud to be in your 1000 (surely more) true fans, buying pretty much everything u recommend and all versions of your books ;)
Hey Tim Ferris, could you go through your process of reading a book....how you make a notes, index them and stuff?
tjisvirtual that would make a great video.
Check out his podcast with Maria Popova of Brainpickings. They both geek out and go into their note taking process at length. Also, get/use Evernote.
Vicki Pettersson have you got a link for the podcast? There looks like quite a few with him and Maria
Evernote is the best - I love it!
I believe this is the most relaxed I've ever seen Tim in any of these Videos.
I like it!
👊🏻
Cheers, Tim. Gives me some motivation on my channel/book on Stoicism/health. Take it easy.
Thank you, Tim. Great advice. Your podcast and books are gold mines.
i bought all 4 books after listening to this. thank you for recommendation!
