This week Schony747 features Steamrail Victoria's preserved B Class locomotive B72 sporting the Victorian Railways orange T Cup livery. It's the first preserved diesel locomotive in Victoria to be seen in this livery for a long time. Personally I like the livery as I grew up with diesels in that era. It's also a total contrast to the well known VR Blue and Gold. Look and listen as the locomotive and small freight consist does a number of trips up the ladder track at the 2024 Newport Workshops open day.
    Have a great week - Brenden S.

My dad and I were there on the Saturday. It was a great day with lots of amazing trains and other exhibits, but very hot and dusty. I still had a great time though. Glad you were there too and managed to get some footage.

Music to my ears. I love those old Bulldogs. Thanks Brenden for braving the heat.

I remember going inside B72 on monday. Cab felt cooler, unlike R711’s…

Sitting in a steamer full of warm coal will do that

Love those old metal rail warriors. Wouldn't you think those rail's being their test track's that they would have better sleeper's, rail, ballast, the tracks look like a dogs breakfast. But, I suppose good enough is good enough.

The tracks don't get used enough to justify the upgrade I suppose. As you say good enough is good enough

@@Schony747 It's a shame that they don't do something about them. They've got those heavyweight monsters rolling over them back and forward and worse ever if one slips off and something disslodges off the loco or carriage and hits someone the outcome could be horrific and that would destroy the whole thing then. It would get shut to the public and be a total secure facility. Stuff that. Here's a brain fart. What if there was an idea put forward asking for volunteers to do the repairs and laying of new sleepers and tracks. I'd love to be involved but I live to far away and can barely walk but aren't the loco's maintained by volunteers as well? An extra crew surely wouldn't be out of the question. Worth a shot?

How long are the groups going to remain at Newport? If they move out any upgrade would be a waste of money and labor.
Are there better things to spend their memberships and donations on?
Yes if the sleepers are at the end of their life renew, but getting additional ballast and lifting and lining the track could be beyond their resources and also remember the track is not theirs.

It can't be too far off. First it will appear with other locomotives. I'm looking forward to the day when it runs a train on its own
