This week Schony747 was line side to see the all important full load test for Steam Locomotive J549. The locomotive based at the Victorian Goldfields Railway here in Central Victoria and has been out of action for around 18 months for an overhaul. This was an important test run to see if the locomotive was ready to run with passengers on a regular basis. The locomotive passed the test and re entered service a few days later. The weather was appalling with heavy rain for most of the line side shoot! Diesel Locomotive Y133 joined J549 for the test. You will notice the train returned to Castlemaine with only on e passenger car. Y133 took the other cars back earlier and J549 came back an hour or so after Y133 departed.
Regular steam trains are back at The Victorian Goldfields Railway. Check the website for details - www.vgr.com.au/
Have a great week - Brenden S.

What a beauty! Oil-powered by the looks of it.
I got to travel on the J515 seven years ago as a birthday present from the family - travelled on the plate. Great trip from Maldon to Castlemaine and back. Both Maldon and Castlemaine are worth a visit with some good overnight stays. The 549 has obviously had a refurbishment and converted to oil - looks great.
J549 was always an oil burner and yet the whole line is worth a visit.
Fantastic mate, 549 certainly looks mint now, very nice. Well done to VGR on all the hard work
Yep it looks great Alex. I'm sure you'll be riding at some point
Amazing work and also to all involved from VGR on the restoration
Brilliant work from a core group of volunteers
That's interesting.
I ❤ trains, trams, take a ride, I have a folder on ''transportation''
(folder 2, in playlists) you will love them too :)
Great. When I find dome time, I'll have a look
@@Schony747 Have a raily great day! :)
Good work in the wet, great camera shot at 6.00
Thanks! It was an uphill battle for most of the day.
I was wondering why I haven't seen any recent videos of the steam locomotive pulling the VGR trains. Now I know it was because it was being overhauled. Thanks for this.
It's a welcome sight back on the railway as well!
@@Schony747 For sure.
Great Video and great quality.
Thanks for having a look
Turntable in nice working order
Yes. The while railway runs well. Lots goes on behind the scenes to make it haporn
Steam is always better in the wet I think.
Unless you're out filming it! I'd suggest the colder weather is great for steam
What was the purpose of the flat wagon between the "J"" and the :Y ?
Probably an additional brake capacity incase the J had problems
Possibly to deal with bridge load limits?
