Keep shining bright. My favorite part of your AT hike was when you mentioned a library during Read Across America Week. We donated books. It was amazing. Instead of asking people to give money to you, you asked for us to support this library. So we won't remember the trolls. We'll remember you being positive, kind and thoughtful along the way.

I have never understood trolls, they have no life. I will usually subscribe to 10+ thru hikers and will slowly drop the subscription as a figure out I don’t care for someone’s style… I don’t comment and tell them how horrible they are. I view it as being “allowed” to have a glimpse into someone else’s life. Thanks for taking your time to create these and sharing your adventures with us!

You handled the trolls well. With humor. I absolutely have no expectations nor need for any hiker I'm following to add to their day by commenting or "like" my comments. Geez your hiking and putting out great content. I so appreciate you and all the time you put in so we could follow and enjoy. Thank you

OMG! This was totally hilarious! Thank you. I enjoyed this video and tended to look at it in a different light. Being a past thru hiker x2 I absolutely loved your video, could not wait for the next one to come out. Watching this one, I realized a few things about the responses.
    1. These people writing these responses are not thru hikers, never were thru hikes and probably never will be thru hikers.
    2. These complainers have no idea the amount of work and dedication it takes to do these videos AND thru hike.
    3. If they can't respond about things that they actually know about, then they need to mind their own business.
    4. These responses show you the number of whackos out there.
I thought that you did an incredible job both hiking and also with the videos. You had a lot of adversity and overcame it all. That's one of the life lessons this trail teaches you. NOTHING is set in stone (well, maybe N.H.). I thought you had some of the most entertaining videos this year and in my opinion, you should be very proud of them. You warmed my heart when I watched and although we have never met and probably never will, I consider you, my friend. You are one Badass girl, don't ever forget that and, to look at it a different way.......Don't worry about negative comments, don't worry about people criticizing you about your hike because you accomplished something that NO ONE sitting on the couch did! Again, welcome to the family!

Thank you so much for your videos. I admire you for doing what you did and sharing it with us. A year ago I had never heard of the Appalachian trail ( I live in the Netherlands ), but then my daughter told she had this dream... And she walked this year about 1770 mile and decided to go home. What a wed year it was. Some of her tramily put their adventure on youtube and we (her parents) watched those ofcourse. Sometimes the comments hurted, and I know they hurted her as well. People sometimes has no idea how it is to be out there, and they don't know what you decided upon with your fellow travellers.
My daughter found it a not so healthy traveling, the food (!) and the way your body suffers, it took her some weeks to recover.
I hope you recovered well and picked up the 'real' life as good as it can be. Thanks for your videos, you filled in the amptiness after our daugther stopped the AT.

  • @orcachick2005
    @orcachick2005 11 месяцев назад +3

    Trolls are the worst.
    1. Anyone complaining about when your videos were uploaded and how the guy with the machete was handled was probably not a woman. Women have to instinctively know what steps to take to keep themselves safe. It's unfortunate that we even have to, but this is our world.
    2. There are so many people out there who have strong opinions on how a thru-hike MUST be done and any other method of hiking is "cheating" in some way. Hike your hike and mind your own business- unless you see someone actively doing something dangerous or against the law. (This applies to many things in life beyond thru-hiking.)
I have never backpacked, much less thru-hiked, in my life, and am amazed with anyone who is able to undertake the AT. Major congrats to you for your accomplishment!
    👏👏👏

It was fun sometimes responding to those trolls, they often made it easy. I always enjoy that moment of victory when I respond and their comment vanishes, makes this old coot feel like I just slew a dragon. Its the little things in life. You were an inspiration on trail and I fully appreciate your quirky style. Thank you.

I am NOT doing RUclips next year on my hike in part because of these kinds of responses. Your uploads were among the most entertaining from the class of 2023 and people were still complaining. Also I want to enjoy the hike, not feel like I have to spend hours editing stuff for the amusement of trolls who aren't there and will never be there. Also, as far as the town content, trolls don't seem to get that A: you're documenting YOUR experience, which includes town content. B: Town content is helpful for those of us coming behind you in future years.
Anyways, thanks for everything and looking forward to the Q & A. Scratched it down on the schedule as soon as you announced the day and time.
edit: as far as the canoe thing, I just read an article online the other day about those. Unless the canoe is locked up its apparently accepted practice that people can use them as long as they're respectful and put them back....

been with you from day one. worked years ago with a man who always said to me “don’t sweat the small stuff kid”. I never understood till years later I found out he was taken prisoner during the battle of the bulge WW2. he escaped a prison camp and was shot by his own troops by accident.
so, don’t sweat the small stuff. ignore the trolls living in grandma’s basement at 30 years old with nothing to do but trash people.

    You are a delight!
Trolls gonna troll and you were really quite nice to them, given the petty comments they were making.
I'm a long distance cyclist, not hiker, but it is amazing to me that people who have never done anything like this don't realize the wear and tear you take every day just being out there in the sun and rain, all day, for months. There are no shelters for cyclists, but the occasional motel, as you know, gives some relief from the long days of hiking/cycling and all the chores of camp on top of that.
Great job finishing and keeping your sense of humor!

Badbat, I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this video! So many of the trolls, (yes, I know some of you have) that commented on your videos have never even set foot in the woods and they all think they are armchair experts. You accomplished, and as you say have earned the title of through hiker. Some people are just negative no matter what and yes, they are all over the internet regardless of the subject. You are so cheerful and bubbly and that makes your personality. More people, especially trolls need to be more like you, or let me rephrase that, they need to get a personality. Boy, I can hear the trolls reading this! You just keep up the way you are. I would have been honored to have hiked even a portion of the trail with you!

There are so many people who complain about the delay in releasing videos. For thru hiking videos the safety thing is a legit issue. But - most people have no clue as to how much work goes into putting together any finished video. I played around with it a bit when I was full time RVing and quickly decided it was just too much effort (especially when wanting to enjoy a relaxed retirement). The fact that you put together daily episodes is phenomenal.
And I loved the “I walked 2200 miles, I’M a thru hiker” self-pat on the back! Indeed you are!! ❤❤❤

First of all, I must say I feel special because you responded personally to one of my comments. Thank you.
Secondly, I can’t believe this but I can totally relate. This year I completed a trail challenge that I’ve been trying to do for probably 5 years or more. I hiked 100 miles of the North Country Trail in one calendar year. Absolutely insignificant to what you accomplished but I always got derailed in the past. I attribute my interest in hiking and backpacking to being in better health at age 61 than I was 20 years ago.
On September 24th, I had a heart attack brought on by years of hypertension. The doctor told me that had I not been doing so much outdoor activity in the past several years, I likely would have died from this.
I got on a NCT themed Facebook page, explained my story and simply encouraged people to hike at their own skill level if nothing else for their own health and enjoyment. The number of LIKES and encouraging comments was overwhelming. But I had one troller who commented that I was just looking for sympathy. It pissed me off a little. Then I did a little trolling of my own and came to the conclusion that this guy probably needs a winch or a crane to get his ass off the couch.
The fact of the matter is, some people just like to stir the shit. It’s their way of dealing with their own shortcomings.
I’ve followed AT thru hikers for years. I’d love to do that trail. 20 or 30 years ago, I may have considered it. But now I just don’t have the money or physicality to attempt it. Any one who criticizes how much you slept in shelters, hostels, hotels, motels or tents has no freaking idea how this thing works. Again, they’re just turd stirrers.
I said it before. I’ll say it again. You, Nahamsha Hiker, Hiking With Braids ….. best AT vlogs on the Web. Thank you so very, very much for documenting your journey.
    Peace and love - Dave

Loved this. I was mentally responding to all those troll comments. But ultimately, they’re not even worth responding to. If I have a problem with something someone does in a video, I just stop watching their videos. They can do the same. But the rest of us love all your content. Thank you for sharing everything; your good days and your bad, your high mile days and your zeros, and even maybe some questionable decisions that didn’t turn out well. It was your journey. But you shared it all, and that took a lot of effort and energy on your part so thank you. Even if there were delays. (I’d like to see those who commented on being late walk 2,200 miles and post daily exactly as it happened.). You’re awesome, BadBat. Wishing you all the best and looking forward to more content.

I have watched several female through hikers as I too am a solo female hiker but I have only had the opportunity to do sections of the Appalachian trail with a definite plan to complete the whole trail. I found watching y'all made the sections I have not done feel very doable and that I am ok with what/weight I am carrying. The through hikers I watched and enjoyed all of them you were the one individual I would have loved to have through hiked with. You seem to be able to enjoy the journey and not be pressed to always get big miles (especially the new state beverage). I assume this is a once in a lifetime adventure so if you can go out to eat in a restaurant, great! if you need to stay in a hotel because it's rained. Wonderful. I never had issues with why you posted when you did because it only seems logical that you do not want people to know exactly where you are and Wi-Fi is not always readily available on the trail. I personally love the way you talk, maybe it's because you're from Kentucky and I'm from Western North Carolina. I'm glad you successfully completed the AT but I do miss watching your on trail videos

    Trolls suck...
A lot of us enjoyed your videos.
You're right the trolls don't have the thru hiker title.

I’m sorry a few were mean to you. Your channel is, one of sharing your journey as you hiked. I appreciated everything you did and all that you went thru to bring those videos to us. There are plenty of channels out there that want Trolls. What’s the saying? “ Walk a mile in my shoes”? They might try walking 2200 miles. I’m glad you addressed this/ them…especially the one!!!!😡lol

I actually watch these hiking vlogs hoping to see the town and off trail content. It's really helpful when planning a hike

There will always be trolls. They think their job is to harass people. It's best to ignore them. But you handled it well. It's kind of sad that the good content creators have to be harassed like this.

So good you can laugh at the trolls! That’s the right way to deal with them. Oh, and you wouldn’t be you with a different voice - that’s one of the reasons I continued watching your videos, they are humorous and ‘quirky’. 👍

People are so weird. How self-important do you have to be to make those comments. I couldn't do what you do. I'd have to block all of those idiots. I'd love to hike with you btw. You're so fun. Thanks for taking us with you on the A.T.

Hello young lady! I was mesmerized by your hike and mentioned to family what a wonderful outlook you have. You have a lovely future coming up.
If you lived nearby I’d be hoping to have you meet my son.
    Best always!

You shouldn't fear or be sketched out by someone with a hatchet/axe and machete. People in the preparedness community who hike might have to make a fire 🔥 for survival purposes and carry them for those purposes. I understand your thought process due to bad people who are encountered on the trail. You're awesome, and I hope you're having an awesome day.

Who can watch this video and not comment?!?! I am very glad that you have such a positive outlook and can see the humor in these negative Nellies. I think you should write a book about your experience and then it should be made into a movie! 😊

A bunch of the comments seem to be from those not used to thru-hiker videos. Personality wise, Meyers-Briggs personality type theory says that there are those that give out energy to receive energy back. You definitely fit that.
