Curious sharks will swim by and around you, but they’ll take bigger loops. That short turn couldve been bad for the diver if he wasnt paying attention (you can even see the white of its eyes after it turns, which they do when they encounter prey to protect their own eyes)

  • @leadlefthand
    @leadlefthand Год назад

    That swollen belly indicates either the Tiger Shark is pregnant or had just eaten. My guess is it had just eaten that's why it didn't bother too much making an aggressive move on the diver. But if it was pregnant and hungry, that whole encounter would've been incredibly different. My question is, why do people want to tempt fate? We might not be their preferred food choice, but the more times you swim with sharks, the more chances you place yourself in a situation where you become the exception to the rule.

    Even though I don't ever personally want to swim with sharks and still don't consider it the best idea (😅), it is cool to see their behavior. They are so much more calm and graceful than movies and horror stories like to portray.

So he thought he'd check it out and see what it is. Idk if I could be that calm but by always keeping eye contact and by trying to touch it while remaining in place the diver is showing it that while curious it's not prey. Trying to escape with all the flailing of limbs that is a humans swim pattern makes them think you are prey. He is not skilled - he is just lucky. I have over 700 dives, many of them with sharks. And I have had tiger sharks swim by me all the time. But I have NEVER reached out to touch them. Two years ago I was bit on my leg ... a test bite. I got very lucky. By the time she came back for another go other divers surrounded me. Why did this shark bit me and all the others did not. Who knows. But sharks are motivated by two things...eating and f**king. The rest of the time they just exist until they do one of those two things. They are not killing machines and do not attack without a trigger. They are beautiful. But do not be confused. This is not a puppy or a playmate. It is an apex predator and should be given the proper amount of respect and distance.

      @@angelmartin7310 like Ocean Ramsey? She studies sharks and shark behaviour. They don't have a
      "connection" - she is very good at reading their body language and behaviour. If she cut her leg and bled into the water - they would view her as prey just like any other wounded animals. There is no evidence to show that sharks form social like orcas or dolphins or whales. We know very little about them in large part the most part they do They are opportunistic with regard to both.
      This is also why it is so hard to collect data and study the social sharks.
      They do not do well in captivity making it difficult to observe their mating, navigational, learning and social (or anti-social) behavior. But just because Ocean Ramsey looks like she is one with the shark - don't get confused. She knows it is an Apex predator but it is not some random killing machine. That is what she is trying to show. If you
      understand them and respect them it is very possible to coexist in the water without needing to be afraid.

      Not really, this is a typical inspecting behaviour. The shark is inspecting the weird presence they've encountered, check if it's a threat, prey or what the hell that is. Sharks don't prey on humans, but they might mistakes us for prey and take an exploratory bite (that may cost our live unfortunately). That's why attacks on divers are extremely rare. I read the one in Egypt last month was a large female who was seen at the shore in the shallows A LOT before that attack happened, looking for food, she was really hungry. There is even footage from her hours before from another closeby pier. Humans could've prevented all of that by not dropping kadavers into the shoreline, attracting sharks to come close in the first place and more importantly: by watching her closely and closing beaches!!!

      @@jomoland Did you know that only about 6 people are killed by sharks every year? Did you know that hundreds of people are killed by bees every year? Thousands of people are killed by domestic dogs every year. About a million die yearly from mosquitos that carry diseases.
      You can cherry-pick times when someone is killed by a shark, but you could also fill phone books with the number of people killed by far less intimidating animals.
