This could easily become another video essay, but for now, I think I'll just out my thoughts on KH3's confrontation and conclusion between Xehanort and Sora: OBVIOUS SPOILER WARNING!!! . . . . . . . . I’ve seen some people say that KH3 completely contradicts Master Xehanort’s character and I don’t think that’s really true. I re-watched this video essay I did just to see if there was anything different and the only thing I say that becomes dated is saying that “Xehanort did this out of SHEER CURIOSITY.” And even then, I don’t think it’s WRONG to say Xehanort initially did things out of curiosity. But it was able to grow into a more tangible goal. After all, Young Xehanort ponders in the opening scene of KH3: “I wonder what they planned to do with Kingdom Hearts after summoning it…” So I don’t think Xehanort coming up with a goal larger than just “I want to see what happens” is a contradiction, but is instead an addition to what we’ve been told before. Xehanort never hated the light, and I feel the only way people could believe this is if they assumed everything Xehanort told Terra and Eraqus in BBS was a lie. The Keyblade War always mentioned that “The plague of Darkness was spread because people became too obsessed with the light.” That never changed. And all that Xehanort says in KH3 when he is first defeated is he is recounting the Keyblade War and contextualizing it to what will soon happen. Some people take issue with his wording, and I think this is a case of people taking his words far too literally. “An empty world - pure and bright” is referring to a clean slate. It isn’t literally “a world full of just light and no darkness.” After all, Darkness would get born regardless. His issue is not with Light nor Darkness, but with PEOPLE. And that is really where I seemed to have been right on the money in regards to how Sora and Xehanort’s confrontation was going to go down because Xehanort’s argument was that “The world needs someone to STOP THE PEOPLE from polluting the world” and “Dictate their destiny.” Sora, on the other hand, says that a real leader needs to accept that destiny is beyond someone’s control and accept people’s free will. Ultimately, that is what the difference between Sora and Xehanort always was. It wasn’t truly “light VS Darkness” but “free will VS controlled.” Xehanort did not trust people, which is why he manipulated and possessed so many. As far as Xehanort’s end, I think it’s important to remember that Xehanort was dying anyway. He was barely clinging on to life and desperate to make a difference - even though he was trembling and Darkness was seeping through his crippled body. It was only when Sora tells him about “accepting destiny, whatever it brings” and when his childhood friend Eraqus comes to tell him it is time to let go and trust the new generation does Xehanort yield. Nobody forgives him for what he’s done, except arguably Eraqus - who was also equally guilty for many things. He wasn't much different because he was ready to kill Ventus, blinded by his ideals. What started as a chess match turned into a wicked game that brought death and despair. Eraqus’s final words to Xehanort was, “We messed things up, let’s put an end to it and trust the new generation to do what is right.” And Xehanort was finally able to make peace with his death. It’s a controversial ending to be sure, but I personally really loved it. Sora and Xehanort’s confrontation between ideologies, while brief, was powerful and effective. And as someone who absolutely loved Master Xehanort as a villain, I thought his ending was perfect.
This video deserve more views. Also I love how Sora has never met Master Xehanort yet. The meeting between these 2 characters is one of the reasons why I'm excited for kingdom hearts 3
Agreed, I am also very much looking forward to seeing the confrontation of Xehanort and Sora. I think it would be interesting not only to see the two fight, but to see their ideals clash. Thank you for the kind words. We'd definitely appreciate if you shared this video with your friends and anyone who you think might enjoy it! Thanks! -Skyler
I agree with you. To replace someones very being and identity to turn them into just YOU, is a fate FAR worse than death, since who you ARE dies in that process.
Amazing video! Had to keep replaying the section comparing xehanort and sora's hearts while project destati's cavern of remembrance plays in the background. That was just beautiful. And YES! I've always thought things ending on the keyblade graveyard might not be as clear-cut as people think. I've personally thought either kingdom hearts itself would be great, or would LOVE for the finale to happen on destiny islands for the same reasons as you stated 👌🏾. One of the main reasons alone I think even fans a bit withdrawn from the story should be excited for 3's: the conflict between these two characters finally ending
This is why Master Xehanort needed more screentime, both with Sora (so that they could develop a relationship) and with his posse, so that we can see the contrast.
We really needed a few scenes, at least in KH3, between Sora and Xehanort to actually develop a dynamic and relationship between them. They never really interacted and just knew one another based off second hand accounts, but if they had met and had things in common? That would've made their interactions way more interesting.
The final trailer that released today is giving me an Unlimited Blade works kind of feel, its been giving me that feel since 3D and i dont know if i like it, but considering the contrast and dialogue Master Xehanort said when he said "that boy" i doubt Xehanort is a future Sora
Interesting. I can't say I got "Unlimited Blade Works" out of that trailer (Though I guess the Keyblade Graveyard and Archer's reality marble are similar) Nah, I highly, highly doubt Xehanort is future Sora. Xehanort and Sora just have a lot of similar backgrounds and represent the opposite of each other.
Sora the Good Guy: Makes friends in other dimensions Looks out for his friends Let's people sleep in his heart Respects the Law Xehanort The Bad Guy: Sends his goons to harass people in other dimensions Would Let his friends die in a HEART beat FORCES People to become a clone of himself Says "Screw the law"
How could Sora, a guardian of light and Master Xehanort, a seeker of darkness, have the same nature? I mean, Sora has: Friends, Kindness, a big, caring heart full of light, love, courage, strength and his own Nobody that he can count on! He’s also: generous, loyal, a bit stubborn, always trying to be honest, smart, never giving up, confident, funny, and he’s always willing to try something new! But, Master Xehanort, he’s: selfish, cruel, a coward, he lies, has an evil heart and laugh, and he’s always full of darkness and danger! Plus, he doesn’t have any friends or love or confidence! He’s PATHETIC! He’s the opposite of Sora! And he always hurts people...hundreds of times!!! Sora NEVER, ever, ever, does that!
that were your wrong you say hes selfish when the end go would tech benfited others, a coward you say but he litt was always on teh front lines, he lies not really mistdirection but never lies, a evil heart than also not true no one is pure evil, laugh this i don't get how is laughing bud, full of darkness and danger is that any different from full of light and danger. no friends or love ones wrong he did and he lost them . no confidence no that a stright up lie. sora have hurt people riku is a example. end of the day sora and xenonort are more like than you think it just xenonort experince somthing horrid that turn him to this hes sora if most of his friends died on the first adventure

Love the comparison between Xehanort and Sora's heart--one as a prison and the other as a hospital
This is a pleasant surprise to see a comment from you! I got to say you guys did a fantastic job on your latest album. It was well worth the wait!
I recommend Titantrainer video on the conclusion to Xheanort it's basically a sequel to your video they even mention you in there analysis.

3:51 soo... sora is a mental hospital therapy and an extreme one at that 😅😅
There are very few videos I wished were longer. This is one of them. Excellent work.
didnt skip the add keep up the good work guys
Dang, probably my favorite video put out in this channel honestly.
Overwriting someone else's free will and turning them into you just because you don't have faith in others... that's apocalypse level bad.

Yo I need more video essays about Kingdom Hearts in my life right now.
Well then be sure to check out our latest video we just uploaded!

Omg I love this!!Its so simple to understand too and make sense love the video ❤
This may still happen (the meeting of Xehanort and Sora in Destiny islands) in KH4. In fact, I see it happening in my imaginary eye.
They both reveal their final form during the last fight

Who came here from there add?
He did he lost those he loved in Dark Road and in his own twisted way his goal was to destroy the establishment that enabled that tragedy to happen.
1st and perfect
Sora the Good Guy:
Makes friends in other dimensions
Looks out for his friends
Let's people sleep in his heart
Respects the Law
Xehanort The Bad Guy:

Would Let his friends die in a HEART beat
