YZ450 Powered Cross Kart First Ride

  • Today we finish up the last things on the YZ450 cross kart and take it for a ride. I build a kick starter, make an upper engine mount, and build the rear brake line. We get everything ready to go then find out the engine is locked up from moisture. We use good ole PB Blaster overnight to free it up. After about 100 kicks she fires up for the first time. We take it out for a quick spin until the engine almost over heats. It needs a regearing to get the most out of this kart and the cooling system done.

I realized after filming this that I never bled the cooling system before riding. That's probably why it was overheating. We have a lot of parts coming for this build to make it as fast as possible. Then We race the supercharged buggy!!! STAY TUNED!

Speaking of PB Blaster, got their dry graphite spray for my toolbox bearing sliders and the drawers open a lot smoother now. Also their garage door spray is a must have for the torsion springs and hinges. Spray those once a year and you'll extend the life of the door and springs.

The yz 450 is my favorite engine. I’ve built quite a few, my son turned me on to them. I had always run 2 stroke 250z till I drove my sons 4 stroke 450
5 valves in that head to get the gas needed to feed that beast! It turns like a 2 stroke !
    It won’t let you down!!!

Get that fan buzzing! As heavy as that is it will be maximum fun if you are shifting into 4th at 50mph (assuming you have 6 gears). The gearing will also help keep it cooler.

  • @kelevra558
    @kelevra558 11 месяцев назад

So I'm a die hard Yamaha guy. Not sure what year that engine is but it looks like an old 5 valve engine which is good because the valves are titanium. The 4 valve engines are great but they won't make as much power as these are capable of. My dune queen is a 2003 yz450. I put a 505 big bore kit in it, weisco forged piston, ported and polished the head myself, did a custom grind on the cams, I run it on c16. She makes 73 hp at the rear wheel. It's an absolute monster. I've gotten her to 240-250° and I've never had any issues. They're by far and away the most reliable liquid cooled 450cc engine there is end of story. I've owned them all, honduuuh, ktm, kawisucki, Suzuki, and Yamaha won my heart because of the reliability. If you wanna get rid of the popping lash the valves. And ur gonna want to change that oil and the filter every 8 hours. Also look into a power now valve and a billet lectron carb.

That thing is way to heavy for that engine. That is why people put street bike engines in them. You have double the weight that engine was designed to move. So, while the cart is really cool, that engine will fail very soon. They dont even last that many hours in the 200 pound dirtbike. Get you a used 4 cylinder street bike engine and put that in there. Then you can pull wheelies with your cart and not have to worry about hurting the engine. You will be a lot happier with the performance! Great fab work BTW!!

Right now I've got a couple other projects ahead of this one, like rebuilding a IH TD-6 and refurbing a DoAll bandsaw. I'm contemplating moving the engine up front on the Chenoweth and making it AWD. Either way watching you drive that gets me excited about my project as well. Thinking about doing a turbocharged J32 and running E85 because it's cheap and easy to get by me. Either way rear engine and 2wd or front engine and AWD it should be a hoot to drive when it's done.

You might have to some how engineer some cool air induction ports for radiator since it's in the rear. Put a counter weight on your kickstart to help the recoil spring "get it up"

Red Beard I think you have been starting out in second gear. Cause isn't the shift pattern 1down Neutral 2345N6 cause depending on the year of that motor trans combo I think sum are
    1downN5up for6speed
    1downN4up for5speed
Any how luv your family friendly content look forward to the next video.😊😊

Red …Duke 1290 Engine in a Cart would be a great buggy power plant
    Very expensive motor unfortunately….
Awesome Build so far looking forward to new gearing

I know you were just testing it, but that engine should rev to like double what you guys were hitting, right? Much more power up top?

Agree. Sounds lazy. I’m guessing low compression. It also looks hard to start. Just like my Pitbike when it had zero comp.

Need to check valve adjustment and with the bigger than stock exhaust and no airbox like a bike would have the carb needs to be rejetted.

Move the radiator to the front or at least direct air to and change mounting angle of the radiator

Sweet build i have a yfz450r quad nd recently put some amazon/china tires they are wanda brand with a x pattern tread like the maxxis tires but the lugs are meaty like 3/4 inch or bigger nd they hook like you wouldnt believe if you feel your self fighting for traction on this build check them out they are cheap too

IS THE COMPRESSION RELEASE SET UP?
THAT WOULD MAKE IT HARDER TO KICK TO.✌
