I disagree, I’ve been on many a crew who don’t bother with any chests besides captains chests or above, and so this locks a player being effective behind progression, which the game is supposed to have very few exceptions for like the DA sails..
@Dommbuscus i think SOT's quiet superior, actually. I get carried away clearing out "authorities" in AC4, but SOT has none of those pesky npc's, except for the reapers (of course).
It's cool that you can sneak around PVE AI now. It adds a nice element to emergent gameplay. That combined with the lure dart basically working as a classic rock distraction means we can finally resolve conflict without violence. Ah yes. Finally, Sea of Pacifists!

Fun fact regarding sneaking around AI, it's actually always been a thing! If you slow-walk, AI enemies won't detect you as easily, unless you get in their vision cone. You can even walk right up to them without them detecting you 😄 Think the same also works for animals too, I know it works for Chickens (or did). They also can detect you based on noise, so if you dig a chest, or fire a gun, play music or splash in the water, it alerts nearby AI enemies in a larger area Very cool tiny details!

@@Clogmonger Perhaps they add a new, small, weak Ocean Crawler variant that can climb into chest or spawn in a buried chest. When you fight them you have to get the chest open, and once their out of the chest, it can be damaged!
Knowing rare they’ll come out with an update to stop them working at the top of the ladder after their casual dev players get crapped on in pvp. That’s the only reason we can’t 1 blunder anymore… to many devs and boatswains get owned in pvp so they have to nerf the skill gaps

For everyone still whining about the harpoon gun, they made it clear in their SoT news update that you can only board from the water on Galleons and you literally can’t use it from the air after getting shot out of a cannon onto any ship. Sloops and Brigantines are safe from getting harpoon boarded out of the water, and the best you can do for the smaller ships is harpoon onto the bottom of the ladder and board as normal. And if you still think that’s broken then get your ears cleaned because not only does it make a loud ass gunfire noise, but it’ll also still make the boarding splooshing sound, so you’re doubly warned about harpoon board attempts. Plus they’ll only have one weapon and can’t change at your weapon cabinet anymore, so they’ll be at a disadvantage

Yea it makes noise but audio queues drop off at a distance now more than they used to. In the middle of cannon fire and everyone being busy doing their jobs on a galleon, no ones gonna hear it or have time to deal with it. The ships are already balanced to keep everyone busy in a proper battle. Just because galleon has 4 people doesn’t mean we’re not all as busy as a sloop or brig crew. MC and bilge while at their stations already have trouble hearing the splash at the ladder with the audio distance changes let alone harpoon guns from random parts of the ship. This just makes the galleon a statistically stupid choice to ever use again in adventure pvp and this is a slippery slope for how the rest of the game might change

Was sailing my ship back to deliver the haul that took me to level 100 in the current season, this update looks REALLY good, and the beginning of the hype is perfectly timed with me finishing the previous season.

It would be really fun to be able to plant traps on your ladders so youre warned if someone boards your ship by planting it with a firework, would be great, specially for solo players when we are on an island or need to get away from our ships
I'm very excited about all of the new stealth gameplay we're gonna be able to dig into here! Traps and the blowdart seem really cool as well, but kinda pointless if they're not used in the right situation. Overall I can't wait to finally be able to use all of this stuff!
Alr yall so I’ve experimented around with these new weapons. My discovery is that the blowpipe and grapple gun are not a good combo. However, the grapple gun and knife certainly are. The grapple gun gets you places. The knife can be used both as a sword and a short ranged projectile. But you can use the grapple gun to make the knife more long range by taking you closer to your intended target. Interesting, huh? The knife is OP.
As if I didn't have enough trouble just trying to survive playing this game, now I have EVEN MORE STRESS to worry about! Thanks Rare......... (cries in the corner)

They didn't say it can only grapple to ladders They said it's not going to be able to bypass ladders but you will be able to grapple on the back of the galleon
I believe they've said doing this only works for galleons. Which even then, there's not really any part of a sloop/brig's hull that you can board from BUT the ladders.
They made it clear in a previous video that you can only board like that on galleons, Sloops and Brigs cannot be boarded from the water or the air, and the most you can do is grapple yourself onto the bottom of a ladder and still have to fully climb up. Do more research before doomposting about the grapple gun, yeah?

I love how enthusiastic everyone are in the comments tbh i was expecting alot of complaints lol, also i think a smoke bomb would be a nice addition as it could have a similar effect as the captain grimm smoke screen attack, it would be a nice escape if you're spotted.

Galleons can be anywhere, sloops/brigs have that mechanic.

They said it's not going to be able to bypass ladders but you will be able to grapple on the back of the galleon
I believe they've said doing this only works for galleons. Which even then, there's not really any part of a sloop/brig's hull that you can board from BUT the ladders.

They made it clear in a previous video that you can only board like that on galleons, Sloops and Brigs cannot be boarded from the water or the air, and the most you can do is grapple yourself onto the bottom of a ladder and still have to fully climb up.
Do more research before doomposting about the grapple gun, yeah?
I've been asking for rope swings for a long time. I don't think it's outside the realm of possibility.
