What Matt did there at King Of The Hammers is what car manufacturers do in secret , he tested it in the open , doing a recovery , finding the boom and winches work perfectly , the steering and suspension works perfectly , the engine needs a mild tune up and the only piece that gave way was the front and rear prop shafts , which are always one of the weaker links in any vehicle , its usually those and the axles that give way first , he knows what he has to get and replace . For an out of the box build (so to speak) it only had one fault and was easy enough to fix with the correct upgrade (which was on his cards ' if they break ' anyway and he was not in the slightest bit fussed . That wrecker is a beast of note , once finished , it will be a hard act to follow , much like his Morrvair !
I think he’d also broken a spline shaft on one of the transfer cases on the first run out in the daylight at KotH and had to be pulled back to the trailer by Paul in the Yota. I saw a post and that time asking for help bringing parts from Phoenix to the trail…. I still want to call that truck “Darth Yota” and see a larger flame on the torch in the rat’s hand painted on the tailgate, though.
The Heavy Wrecker has no lockers both ends, hasn't got three hours on the shake down, and he's trying his best to show the hard work himself and crew put into building the Beast. If you ask me, he's a hell of a man to try that craw in front of hundreds of analyst. Good job Matt.

Matts going to have quite a few break downs. It’s a heavy vehicle. It has a big block. It has 2 1/2 ton axles. He does have air lockers that may or may not work. I think the weak points are going to be drivelines . They aren’t big enough. The transfer case. It’s a prototype that looks similar to a 205. Hammers is one of the best places to test.

Yeah the time and money in the Heavy Wrecker must be up around $150k-200k at this point. It doesn't even have the Texas Speed engine in it yet. That's probably $25-30k alone. It's got $6k tires for crying out loud.
@@NeoMK I'm sure he got the tires and a lot of other parts free. Look at the advertising they get for any products Matt uses. Look at the Patagonia tires that he runs on the other wreckers. They were never that popular until people started seeing them on RUclips.

Matt if you look at the rock bouncers on youtube, find out what kind of drive shafts and axles they use, it could be very help full to know what kind of drive line to mach those monster tires on your heavy wrecker.

If someone with money took a road grader, removed the blade and added a boom and some winches they'd have a far more capable and dependable rig for way less money. I wish I had the means to build that and show up at this wrecker Olympics thing.
I literally think the only reason it broke is because it came down so hard off of that four foot vertical ledge..... That's a lot of weight and equipment coming down like a ton of bricks.
That ledge is closer to 9 feet than 4 feet. When we were walking up, we couldn't even see his 54 inch tires because they were in the dug out pit at the bottom.

The audio isn't perfect so it's difficult to hear and understand everything but it comes off sounding like some people's attitudes make it seem like a good group to avoid since you can't effectively tell that many people to GFY.

Parts are everywhere, aftermarket support is crazy, and a proper built Dana or 14 bolt, is damn near impossible to break. I said this would happen as soon as he rolled them in and unveiled his plan, military is meant for sand, or mud, not rocks. Aftermarket support is basically 0, parts are hard to find. once you break, 2 options, weld it or hopefully get towed out.

He's said in the past that the current engine and transmission are just v1, and he's got plans for something with more oomph in the future. Honestly though, I'm not sure why he needs it. He's got more torque through gear reduction than he knows what to do with, and the few vids there are of him driving it seem to show its got plenty of get-up-and-go. This vid is the second time he broke his driveshaft at KOH, I think anything that looks like him not having enough power is more likely him just being cautious because he already knows he's got a weak spot.
It is sad, But I said this was going to happen. It is really weird how I can see things happening before they do.And the really sad thing about it is I have seen many bad things happened and they were registered in the News. So sad.
Actually... What's kind of sad is that so many people don't understand when you build an entire machine from a concept (basically a picture drawn on a white board). That machine has to be tested... and when tested, things very commonly break, and need to be addressed... but it is very much part of the process. The main issue, I believe, is that he is snapping drivelines. That isn't an issue that is that hard to address. Being that trip was the first trip for the wrecker, I would hardly call it a failure, or even consider what happened on the trip even a sign that it will be a failure.

I wonder if he has any plans to upgrade the engine to something with a few more ponies
He's said in the past that the current engine and transmission are just v1, and he's got plans for something with more oomph in the future. Honestly though, I'm not sure why he needs it. He's got more torque through gear reduction than he knows what to do with, and the few vids there are of him driving it seem to show its got plenty of get-up-and-go. This vid is the second time he broke his driveshaft at KOH, I think anything that looks like him not having enough power is more likely him just being cautious because he already knows he's got a weak spot.
He built it with a 8 litre V8 - sure he can work it over, but it seem to be handling all of the work they have tried so far.

It is sad, But I said this was going to happen. It is really weird how I can see things happening before they do.And the really sad thing about it is I have seen many bad things happened and they were registered in the News. So sad.
Actually... What's kind of sad is that so many people don't understand when you build an entire machine from a concept (basically a picture drawn on a white board). That machine has to be tested... and when tested, things very commonly break, and need to be addressed... but it is very much part of the process.
The main issue, I believe, is that he is snapping drivelines. That isn't an issue that is that hard to address. Being that trip was the first trip for the wrecker, I would hardly call it a failure, or even consider what happened on the trip even a sign that it will be a failure.
