  • Recovery from anorexia (or any eating disorder) REQUIRES feeling all kinds of wrong & uncomfortable. It's pretty much unavoidable. Food is nonnegotiable, a priority... But it must be eaten in the context of a screaming brain and very "out of practice" digestive system! Therefore when it comes to recovery, how you feel does NOT get to dictate your actions.
Most importantly: Maury, Montel, or Jerry Springer Show?!

It has helped me to think of my brain as a pet. You have to feed your pet. The brain lives on sugar and needs water. I can hear in my head...” did you feed your brain? Does she need water?” this transaction has nothing to do with my body. No one but me knows how much food my brain needs. She consumes a crap ton of calories completing all of the tasks that she has been assigned. She is dependable and deserves to be given the fuel that is required to do all of the crap that she does. When I think about it, it doesn't seem fair that she has to do ałl of the stuff that she does. Any, this is helping me. Lots of love to you guys!!!🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Wow, I love that! I tend to struggle with getting angry at my brain and/or body at any given time, so depersonalizing and separation from it I'm sure would be very helpful. Feed the innocent pet brain and, in doing so, starve the monkey mind. 😉👍🐒

Well I started with Phil Dinahue and then moved onto Morton Downey Jr and Jerry Springer. So yeah, you can call me a seasoned trashy talk show veteran lol 😂. Btw, spot on with the whole "intuition/vs hard fact" of eating. It's tough to deal with every single day, but we gotta slog through it. 💕

I learned a LOT about the "ways of the world" on those sick days at home. 😂😂😂

I remember watching game shows and sleeping when I was sick, had tonsillitis frequently! I agree with the whole eating and anxiety thing, I have been telling myself to do the opposite, helping a little and same with the physical reactions, not happy with that! We should all have a zoom lunch and encourage each other to “just eat the food”!

Yikes, did you end up getting your tonsils out!?! As a kid I lived in fear of having that surgery... For no reason whatsoever 😂 And what a brilliant idea! Helpful AND probably entertaining lol

Another scenario I can really relate to. I was looking as Maslow the other day and like you, that hierarchy applies to everyone else, but it doesn’t apply to me, or so I believe. Is it to do with not being worthy enough to deserve the basics or is it that I believe I’m superwoman and don’t need it because I didn’t it yesterday and survived? This ED has an answer to everything!

That's a really good question, one which I imagine I'll ponder for a long time... Or perhaps we sort of blur our eyes when it comes to Maslow's principles altogether? Regardless, I envy my ED's ability to always have an answer and confidence in what it asserts lol

Hello! I would advise working with a doctor and dietician as you move through your recovery. That way you can address the eczema while also not falling back into the ED. It's a sneaky disease, and having that support will be very helpful. I wish you the best!
