    Only two of these changes have a chance of being approved and rightly so.
    1. “Out of Bounds” This is a PENALTY, no change required.
    2. “Pace of Play”. There already is a standard. POP has no effect on the TV viewer as only active shot making is televised.
    3. “Divots” Terrible rule and should be changed.
    4. “14 Clubs”. Weekend hackers have never paid attention to this rule. 14 is plenty for tournament golf.
    5. “Wrong Ball”. Player is required to make his/her ball for identification and can even move the ball to ID. Don’t hit the wrong ball.
    6. “Lost Ball”. The PGA has eyes everywhere. Players should hit a provisional if there’s the slightest question. The is a non issue as players rarely have to return to the tee and hit again.
    7. “Range Finders” A no brainer, should be implemented yesterday.

      The problem with #3 (divots) is, that there'll be a lot of discussions what is a divot and what isn't. It's easy if the previous flight "created" it, but what if it's a day old? Or a week? Two weeks? A month? Three months? It'll lead to either spending a lot of time discussing to find out if the player is entitled free relief, or having free relief whenever the player thinks his ball isn't lying as nicely as he likes it.
      It's the #1 rule of golf: Play the course as you find it, and play the ball as it lies.

    You’re talking about Tour Golf. What we care about is club or casual golf. We absolutely need two sets of rules. Golf takes to long already. Change the rules to allow drop and go style. Let’s us not forget that back in the 50’s, there was not stroke and distance penalty.

    I very much 2nd 1) OOB and lost ball rules: 1 shot penalty and dropping within 2 club length. We have a dogleg par 4 with a lower area at the turn where you cannot see your ball from the tee, also not the provisional. If my ball(s) are OOB I only go back in tournaments, otherwise I drop there 2) I need not more than 40 sec. to hit my ball 3) divots: if it is a quite fresh divot/ bare earth ... free relief should be possible 4) wrong ball: 1 penalty ... and go on 5) 15 or 16 clubs would be fine: I'd like to carry a left handed club for certain situations 6) range finders: no problem

  • @huskerchuck9212

    I carry 2 clubs for getting out of trouble. A 1-iron if I need to keep it low, and a 13-wood if I need to get the ball up quickly. This limits the other clubs I can carry. I'd love to carry 16 clubs.

    How about we just leave well enough alone. We already live in a namby pamby world where life isn't fair and things are just too hard, Whaaa! Please! get over it! Let the chips fall where they may and play the ball where it lies! You want to speed up play yet you want to give players more time to look for balls or better yet, put more clubs in their bags so they can take longer to decide what club to use! Rules should be changed based on common sense not because you hit the ball out of bounds a lot...

  • @JohnPublic-dk7zd
    @JohnPublic-dk7zd Месяц назад

    I think range finders should be allowed, and fixing the OB/lost ball rules to 1 stroke penalty would speed up play...more than 14 clubs would create delay, as golfers would debate even longer which club to hit...divots are part of the game, they happen...same with embedded balls...kinda divided about wrong ball, so, leave the rule as is...slow play penalties are problematic, and if courses want to speed up play, cut the rough to 1-1.5 inches, max...the amount of time folks spend looking for a ball in 3-6 inches of high grass is astronomical, as a duffer I know I'm already penalized in inch high rough...

  • @tcofield1967
    @tcofield1967 2 месяца назад

    Some of this makes some sense. Others might take a lot of tweaking to put in place.
    OB could have something but you would have to figure out where a legal drop could occur. Personally just eliminate the stroke penalty and have the player hit a ball from that spot. Laying two should be a decent enough penalty. Add the option for that in a hazard as well, either go back and hit two or drop in line with where the ball entered the hazard with a one stroke penalty. As for lost balls, that is a rarity in Pro golf with forecaddies and fans everywhere looking for the ball. This would be more of an issue at club events. Maybe again, rehit with no extra penalty, just hit two.
    Pace of play just has to be enforced. You can put a rule in but it has to be enforced by officials, most of whom are either low paid or volunteers. That would probably create even more hassles. Allow for two warning per nine holes and then assess on the third or subsequent delays per nine holes.
    Divots have been an ongoing argument. If there is some sort of damage to the fairway that is created by another human being it should be treated as ground under repair and relief should be given. Simple as that.
    14 Clubs. I don't think this a problem at the PGA level. If anything they could get away with fewer clubs. At local tournaments maybe that should be looked at.
    Wrong ball. Not really a problem at the PGA level. It is a rarity. I suppose if it did happen the penalty should be only one stroke but not something that most people care about.
    Range Finders. I think this will change over time. Again this is an issue with professionals only. Most local competitions and lower professional events allow them because players can't afford high priced caddies that spend their time looking up courses and calculating distances on green books.
    I would like to see the option for carts for some players. It is allowed under certain circumstances but I think the option should be available for all players, as long as the course can support it. It might make the game run a bit faster if the player and caddie can ride together instead of walking. It would always be an option of course.

  • @leonlowery3389
    @leonlowery3389 Месяц назад

    you shouldn't have to hit a ball out of a footprint in a bunker. Anything that a competitor can so in front of you should be fixable. rake and replace at the same spot. it's like spike marks on a green. they finally fixed that.

    Out bounds penalty vs water, I agree it is not fair. In an unrepaired divot, not fair as the slob who left it is not penalized. Hitting wrong ball, just stupid. Every ball is marked to be unique. I agree with that penalty. Watch, range finder, slope, distance, yardage book, it is so generic now that old rule just has no place.

    1) No player is allowed more than 8 strokes per hole! Pick it up and proceed to the next hole.
    2) The player may move the ball within 2 club lengths no closer to the hole if the damage is likely to occur to the Player or Club; ie. Tree roots, large rocks unmovable objects - posts, trees
