    Thank you fthe video. Some idiot smashed into my wing mirror this evening and I've just ordered a replacement from ebay for £45. This video exemplifies excellently the procedure of removal and replacement. Thanks.

    I bought a red Focus last week and wanted to replace the side mirror “caps” (don’t know the exact name since English isn’t my native language) by black ones. This video made it very clear on how to do it! Thanks!

    Great tutorial! I replaced my mirror in this way but now when it rains the carpets in the driver's footwell and the rear passenger footwell on the driver's side get very wet. The new mirror appears to be mounted correctly. Could the leak be related do you think?

    • @GentilsGarage

      Thank you. Check the boot floor where the spare wheel is for water. It’s a common Focus Mk3 issue and it’s the vents behind the rear bumper. I have a video about it and I had exactly the same issue as you.

    • @andrewplummer2088
      @andrewplummer2088 Год назад

      @@GentilsGarage I've checked the boot and spare wheel area, and it's bone dry - it's literally just the footwells that are wet, with no indication as to where the water is getting in. It just seems like an odd coincidence that water starts getting in on the driver's side soon after I replaced the driver's side mirror. It's very odd. I've now booked it in with Ford (it's used but I've only had it a short while) who are going to check it over for me.

    • @GentilsGarage
      @GentilsGarage  Год назад

      @@andrewplummer2088 that’s very odd indeed because of water from the outside drips inside the door and through the drain holes.

    • @andrewplummer2088
      @andrewplummer2088 Год назад

      @@GentilsGarage that’s what I thought. It’s definitely rain related as opposed to something leaking from within as the water always appears after a heavy downpour. I did however notice the wing mirror was slightly loose so have tightened it, so I’ll see if that makes a difference, but as you say, any water from outside should leak into the door and out the drain holes.

    Watch out not to dislodge the foam noise reduction strip when the mirror is removed (at the bottom, in the door) if this gets lost or out of place you end up with a lot of wind noise, and the mirror has to come off again to sort it out !! Ask me how I know !! (See it at 3.53).

      @@flo_1604 There a cellular foam strips around the area where the mirror sits. They appear to not be fixed in any way, and are to easy to dislodge and lose. Mine just fell out on the floor !!. I put them back in (there are gaps that let air in, they just break up the wind noise I guess), and sealed the ends with silicone. It's 90% better !! One day I will go back in with the silicone and see if I missed any gaps. Hope this explains it.

    • @GentilsGarage
      @GentilsGarage  9 месяцев назад

      Not sure, but they are not too different. You can use an old knife and tape the sharp edges with masking tape but it has ti be done more gently in order not to damage the plastic

      I would just get a normal purse of foam from anywhere you can find and cut to size. The best way to fix it is to use a small dab of glue just to hold in place.

      It wouldn't matter because its essentially just forming a loop (the heating/resistance element), so as long as it has the two wires either way round, it's still a loop that will heat up when power is passed through it.

    Always better to check bolt and screw heads Pozzi or Phillips .for tight snug fit ,or tendency to chew up the heads ,Don,t tighten screws fully ..just snugg, then go around again for final tighten ,Cos metal screws and bolts stretch after tightening ..Why don,t they make possible breakables out of the special shatterproof A.B.S. And not those that break easily, Actually we know why don,t we …more money in the till Overall great little car the Focus ..Problem in the estate rear inside lights too low ,even Tesco bags block these little side lights ..Why put on fancy little glow lights on int. door hdles. And footwell area ? Door edge lights that go on as you open door are 100times better and safer. Luff you .
