After a LOT of requests from my YT audience & FB members, I decided to try the PBN Flow Method/Technique on a regular paint by number kit instead of just on a board painting like a Schipper. These are just a few of the questions I will answer in this video...
    • Will it actually work on a regular canvas?
    • Do I get better coverage with transparent paint than painting using the normal method?
    • Do I need to use clear gesso if I am going to use the Flow Technique with a regular PBN kit?
    • Are there any tips or tricks I found while using this method?

Using Gesso and Flow aide with flow technique has made PBN so much easier and faster I feel like I went from JV to Varsity 😃

I thought that music added to the little relaxing ambience of the “flow” method…😂…

I'm curious if, after more time, the matte center vs the glossier edges changes? I noticed when I've done this method that if the paints are a little thinner then they should be, there may be some thinner edges as the paint dries from the edges to the center and maybe that's the difference you are seeing? Anyway, I have now used this method on a Schipper, Dimensions and regular canvas (gessoed) and I love it! I have really not had any "leaking" around the edges (love the science of the surface tension that makes this possible-and yes I am a science nerd😁). Thanks for another remarkable video!

I have only been doing the flow method on a regular canvas because that is all I have. I have never used Gesso. But I am going to try it at some point. I have not had problems of the paint bleeding over the lines really. I do paint on a flat surface if I use the flow method. And yes it does take awhile to dry. I do however have to put a second layer of the colors that are light. But it’s usually a pretty quick fix. Also I love how it leaves a more glossy finish on the paintings I have done. Thank you for the tips. I will give them a try.

I'm using the flow method on my canvas and have it at a 45 degree angle. A bit of puddling at the bottom, but you can't tell after it's dried. I Gesso too. My main problem with the flow method is I feel it takes longer to mix the paint to the right consistency (I mix a little in the lid because I don't have enough room in the pot to get it right) I agree with Tiffany McCellan, we need bigger paint pots! Thanks for all the advice Melanie, I will continue to Gesso!

Am trying flow method on my wip canvas. Lots of red, yellow and orange. I would probably have given up on this one, but the flow method is working well

Now know for sure gesso is one of your best mediums & just amazing how this method works 🤗!

PBN flow method is a game changer for canvas. Just wondering, if sealer is not included with the kit…what sealer do you recommend?

Would you blend after the piece is completely dry after using the flow technique?

I’ll do the flow method on canvas all the time and when I move the canvas it does not flow out of the lines. I normally outline myself then use the flow method and the canvas absorbs the paint just like a board does for me

I would never set anything directly on my panels....and if you use smaller brushes/tools you wouldn't need to thin your paints so much. Sometimes too thin of paints mean you will have to go over again with another layer to cover the numbers.

Thank you for your feedback, but I’m not sure you understood that this is an entirely different method of painting from Schipper Paint by Numbers that I was asked to try on a traditional canvas by my viewers. It is called “The Flow Technique”, and it’s from another set of tutorials I have done. ruclips.net/video/Mjpbof9Bdkg/видео.htmlsi=qsqLGm-UGfoC8ZDS
The point of this method is to use a diluted flow improver to thin down the paint in order to puddle it up over the cell. It provides one coat-coverage for even the most difficult, transparent paints. I personally prefer to use this method with Schipper PBN kits, because their paints are designed for it.
As far as sitting something on my panel, I was a custom framer before I became a RUclipsr, and paint pots weigh less than 2 ounces. They will not affect the stretch of the canvas.
Also…if I was painting in the normal manner, using smaller brushes or tools would not provide better coverage necessarily. The best way to achieve the most effective coverage is by using the largest brush in a cell to avoid the least possible stroke marks.
I agree with you that too thin of paint means you have to go over it, but testing the Flow Method as I’m demonstrating in this video, prevents that by adding a 3D layer of paint to provide ultimate coverage.

Have you ever used Floetrol to thin out the paint?

I haven’t, but my husband is actually the paint department manager at Lowe’s, and I’ve been SO TEMPTED to have him bring some home to test. It would certainly be more cost effective!!

Hi Melanie what is a shipper painting?

    • @MelanieBsCreativeStudio
      @MelanieBsCreativeStudio  Год назад

Schipper is a German company that makes some of my favorite paint by number kits. They have a unique type of paint that is very fluid, but it also very opaque in my cases…unlike many other pbn companies. Although I love MANY companies, there is something very different about the Schipper kits…and I do NOT make commission from their kits…I just really love them!

I had to see what was happening to know why in the world I wouldn’t have been using gesso. And then I probably did it after I concluded the video…even with the Flow Method. 🤣🤣🤣
