*Why am I talking about this subject? :* Herodias is the first witch to have been recorded in written form, and it's important to know her story because of her importance in the medieval imagery, and she became the archetypal figure of the witch. Most of the traits and phenomenon we recognize in the figure of the witch, come in fact from the biblical descriptions of Herodias. Many pagan goddesses were equated with Herodias and gained the same traits and abilities Herodias possessed. So by knowing Herodias, not only we understand the fantasy-constructions of the Middle Ages expressed in the figure of the witch, but we also know the Christian influences upon pagan goddesses and therefore it will be easier to understand what is actually the pagan-mentality on the divine and what are the Christian conceptions, so we may better understand the origins. Knowing this avoids a lot of neo-pagan assumptions towards a variety of deities and towards paganism itself. There are many "Goddesses of the Witches" that Neo-pagans praise and honour, who were never pagan in nature and are actually Christian constructions derived from Herodias - such is the case of Aradia, Erodiade and many more, and of course Pagan goddesses who gained Herodias traits and abilities by Christian hands, such as Diana, Hecate, Holle, Holda and so on. Know the differences and avoid making mistakes and keep feeding those same mistakes and terrible misconceptions.

extraordinary claims ,demand extraordinary evidence ,you have not provided that hear ,you have presented one point of view only .you have done a disservice to the pagan and witch community with your perspective on witchcraft and pushing the church's bible stories ...the real story of witchcraft will not come from the church or it's source's .this is one more attempt to erase the real history of witchcraft in Europe and the middle east .many stories are recorded in the bible , does not make any of them true , just the teachings of the Cristian and Jewish tradition.our story ,is not the church's story or it's caricatures of what we are or where we came from ...

@@Loddfafnisodr that was the foundation of my argument , if the church destroyed all the material they came across ,how is it that this survives .then is declared the root of modern witchcraft ,in spite of the fact it's source is church writings ,sounds like a bad argument . it seems like a bad idea to source material from the people that persecuted and destroyed ,not only the free thinking women of Europe, but witchcraft as well ...thanks for the exchange , sad that airth feels he is above intellectual discussion and will not defend his claims or the use of such bias source's ...have a fantastic day , thank you again .

@@shawnasmith5332 I'm glad you're aware and not worried to speak out.
I'm so fed up with all the pointless approbative comments on all the videos that make debatable claims (not just Arith's). Yeah, maybe you want to increase the reach of the video by making a comment, but it's not that hard to at least say what you agree with instead of saying some pointless bullshit -- then someone may at least say that they _don't_ agree and potentially start a discussion in which you don't even have to participate, and you'll have provided the forum (and you constrain the forum when your pointless bullshit gets likes and appears at the top).
Even if a video is 100% correct, it's good to question the claims, ask for sources etc.

When you talking about the first witches, do you mean witches in the context we understand of them now? Or in the classical tradition? Because the earliest literary witch of the western civilization was Circe.

Might I commend “Aradia, Gospel of the Witches” to your research? I might wager a relationship between Herodias and Aradia, especially given the Celtic distaste for the ‘h’ sound.

You talk about the Bible... in your commentary which seems to be altered, though of its original? Or what is it against Christians with the Pagan?. ------- But is it based on the Gospel of Witches ----- Ariadia_Or_A_Gospel_Of_The_Witches? -------- This is nothing against truth or God, but a curious question. I am a mono-theist. Not a polytheist. So it is to say, as a Christian one finds it very fascinating. What other sources backup the claim of the Bible's originality as concerned with that of the time of Saul to the witch of Endor? and that of Old Testament to support the New to much today?

In the Bible Herodias is not described as a witch. She uses manipulation to get John the Baptist's head, but not magic. Why do you say she is the first recorded witch? I think interpretations of her being a witch were added later. But in the Bible there is a much older record of a witch, namely the witch of Endor who was consulted by Solomon.

There are a consideration number of different Bibles throughout history. She is portrayed as a witch in medieval biblical manuscripts and other versions of the Bible. For instance, The Codex Sinaiticus is considerably different in many aspects from the Orthodox Tewahedo biblical canon, and from they King James' Bible, and from the biblical Roman Catholic texts, etc. Herodias was portrayed as a which throughout the middle ages, becoming the most famous witch, usually under the control or guidance of Diana, as a pagan goddess who also became a sort of "Queen" of witches since the Canon Episcopi. If you have a Bible at home, it is different than many Bibles and biblical texts that have been going around for the past 2600 years.
