  • Have you looked at your Wix Editor lately?? If you have a Wix website, sooner or later your Wix Editor is going to be converted into the New Wix Editor 2022 with... ta da (!!) "sections". What the heck? What happened to strips? And if you don't know what I'm talking about at all and you haven't even been using strips - listen up.
    The worst thing you can do is build a Wix site right onto the "page background". Designers know you need to build on strips (you can move them if you want to, save them, use them on another site, whatever...) Well, now there's another layer - another building block - called SECTIONS.
    How do you use SECTIONS on a Wix website?
    You lay down a section (basically an advanced strip) and lay strips on top of the sections. Watch the video of a very basic overview of how they work and I'll go into more detail in coming videos! xo

    First let me preface this by thanking you for WIX Website Building Tutorials that are clear, concise and very easy to follow and practically apply. There is a real demand for your WIX Instruction. I myself am looking forward to the release of the video series you mentioned where in you will film 5 minute segments on all of the WIX Website Building topics. Being armed with this information is vital to your subscribers and viewers like myself who are new to WIX and website building. I have a WIX VIP Website and account and frankly I am lost. That stated your content is needed and appreciated. Will try to keep future comments shorter and more succinct.

      Thank you so much for the feedback - I'm very grateful for it. My idea for creating these tutorials came from the number of clients who have come to me with a site that they've tried and failed at building just because there is really no visual and live human explanation of how to do all these detailed things. : ) Thanks again - and I don't believe anyone really needs the VIP account. Next time your account comes around for renewal you can probably downgrade it for a cheaper account and lose nothing.

    Hi Birit, I had to pop into your comments to tell you that your videos gave me the guts to build my website on Wix. I started out very intimidated, even after watching Wix tutorials. Your videos were the key that unlocked my confusion. I'm actually figuring it out! I'm thrilled because my current website is on Podia and frankly, I'm not proud of the way it looks. Podia sites are static-looking stacks of rectangles. I'm loving my Wix site already and am super excited to publish. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I appreciate you and your videos so much!

      @@biritsimonsen good luck with your upcoming videos. Making them is a lot of work. Regarding what I’d like to see, I’m presently getting stuck with two things - making pages that look fine for desktops but that look awful when I click to phone view. It feels daunting and like I’m actually building two sites and not just one. Next are the predetermined section sizes for text. They’re so narrow and look constrained, even when I shift the layout. I looked at your site and like the way you have a navy blue section with text that goes wider than the ones I see in my editor. I can’t figure out how to do that and would love some guidance. WOW. Thank you. Very easy to understand and follow. I do have a question. I'm so confused about the guidelines. Obviously they are the type "safety" but then so many designs have type and are far outside the guidelines. Many of the strips have images and type extending way passed the guidelines. When I did that, items were clipped. Can you tell me how do I know when it's ok and when it's not? PS I'm desperate to need help on the mobile layouts. It seems so widgy. Very difficult to get it just right. Thanks for any tips. I will surely be watching your tutorials. Clearly well done.

      Hi there. Thanks so much! Have a look at this video about columns - ruclips.net/video/mw0v1wtQI-I/видео.html. It talks a lot about gridlines and how to get your content out towards the sides of your site without losing it when it's on smaller screens. I'll talk more about this soon! I know it's confusing. When I first started with Wix they didn't have columns and you really just had to keep everything towards the middle. It's muuuuch better now. : ) You do always need to be checking your site on different-sized screens to make sure it looks good everywhere. That's part of my design process.

    Fantastic video!!! I thought I was going crazy. I am not a web designer by any stretch but Wix allowed me to put content out there for a niche tax arena. Now I cannot change any of it easily because the Editor named all my individual pages as a Section. On the toolbar they had that four inward pointing arrow icon that I used all the time, and as you stated ... poof ... gone ... and so is my ability to change my website. Is there a workaround for that?

    • @biritsimonsen
      @biritsimonsen  10 месяцев назад

      In the old editor, there were just strips, of course. No sections. The strips behaved very much like sections do now. Even to the point where you could put a strip within a strip.
      What strips do that sections cannot do:
      - Strips can have margins (Sections are always site-wide and always just one background per section)
      - Strips can have columns adding all sorts of design possibilities
      What can sections do that strips cannot:
      - Sections are easier to reorder than strips were (they used to kind of stick together sometimes)
      - Sections can act as anchors. You can link a menu tab to a Section for example
      - Sections can have their own URL (this is very cool). If you right-click on the Section name label you can customize the Section URL and link to it from anywhere (social media for example, or in an email campaign)
      Sections have been around for a long time now and I'm really used to them. They still irritate me a little while formatting on mobile, but overall they add design capabilities and that's always a good thing. : )

    tutorial needed - how to convert current website to new format without destroying everything especially music download and sales

    • @biritsimonsen
      @biritsimonsen  Год назад

      Old websites should automatically be shifted over to the new editor without any issues. Having said that, I have heard other designers say they've had issues with this. All my old sites are still in the old editor for the most part and I'm surprised it's taking so long to move them. But, this is a good thing - it means they are working out the bugs. So, the answer is - do nothing for now. Let the site switch over on its own and you likely will have to do nothing to "convert" it. It will be automatic. Certainly, music downloads and store setup will not be affected.

    • @biritsimonsen
      @biritsimonsen  Год назад

      Hi there. Be careful as to what you have selected. If you are only seeing the fade in/fade out options you likely have selected the section and not the strip. Make sure there is a blue border surrounding the strip and a blue "Strip" label in the upper left hand corner. Then you will see the parallax options when you click on the animation icon. Another option is to right click over this area and look for "Overlapping Items" in the box that pops up. This will give you a list of everything that is on your web page at that point in order and you can select strip from there. Hope this helps!

      Yes, that is true, but there are so many workarounds to this. When you add strips and columns on the strips, you can place your content further out to the sides of your site. And you can layer strips and manipulate further where you place the content. I like to minimize my browser window on my desktop so that I can drag the size of the window back and forth with my cursor and see how the content rearranges on a smaller and larger screen. Almost 100% of the time I reach a solution I'm happy with. I don't feel I have to keep content down at the center of the website (like you had to about a decade ago). @@YogiCecily Okay, a couple of things. First of all, if you delete content there are a couple of ways to get it back. One, which is pretty obvious, is the back arrow buttons. The other is called Site History. At the very upper left corner of your editor, right next to the word Wix, there is a "Site" tab. Go in there and you will see "Site History". In site history, you can go back to any version of your site. You can look back and see what your site looked like before any time you clicked Save and you can restore previous versions of your site. It's all logged by date and time. So, that's always an option. Here is the Wix Support page for Site History: support.wix.com/en/article/viewing-and-managing-your-site-history
      Yes, strips are attached to the sections they sit on. I'm not sure what you mean about being unable to size the strips. I can just drag them wider or narrower. And what do you mean about them not "lining up" with the sections?
      When I am building a site and moving around large blocks of content sometimes I copy and paste the content on a blank hidden page just so I don't lose it if I delete it.
