- In this video I do a quick comparison of Asus and MSI base 4090 offering vs it's flagship on relative performance, noise and temps. For those who are always asking is it worth it to pay more this is for you.
Noticed the TUF is missing on the Kombuster Chart
4090 TUF hit max temp of 70 Dba 54 Max fan 59%

hey for the 4090 custom cables by cablemod do u know if i can plug the cable from the gpu straight into the psu
Absolutely yes.@Al.Nuaimi
Just bought an ASUS 4090 TUF myself. The card looks gorgeous IMHO, love the proper metal shroud and industrial design. Would like a touch more RGB though, maybe a strip along the card. I had luck with my unit because it has zero coil whine, at least no audible to me, despite having read several reports on Reddit about coil whine on Asus cards. I personally think that the FE, TUF, and Gaming OC are the best picks in terms of price/quality. Especially since the sensible thing for saving power with a negligible performance difference is to UV, makes zero sense to me to go for a flagship model on this generation. I used to max the OC of all my cards up until the 2080 Ti, since then I just UV 🙂
how was the fan noice?
Dude- fantastic B roll shots - lighting really helped to see how these cards actually look.
I bought the MSI SUPRIM X 4090. Is the most silent one (if you put it in silent mode, or you correct the fans to cool at the same level as the other cards), and costs actually less than the TUF in my country. But they are all great cards.
in my country suprim x costs $50 more then TUF but $200 less then the trix
@@McDudes TUF is a great card. But I would still pay 50 USD extra for the Suprim X. If the price difference would be 100 USD I would get the TUF.
@@nossy232323 yeah thats what I think too. Or I save 150 USD and go for MSI Gaming X Trio?
You said just buy the cheapest 4090 but at same time you say Gigabyte Windforce which is one of the cheapest is trash, why is that?
because your house is gonna catch on fire, avoid gigabyte, evga, and probably zotac
oh, and they will give zero fqs

Oh wow straight to the point video, rare sight to see! Like
I bought the Strix 4090 OC to replace my Strix 1080ti. The ti gave no issues for 7 years. Let hope I get lucky again.
I do hear a little coil whine, very quiet but it's there. but when I'm sim racing I have headphones on.
The card is quiet otherwise. Runs fairly cool too. I have a big case. View 71 Thermaltake.
Man thank you so much, the guy at the store tried to sell me a suprim over a trio, he went on about how the trio is a bag of crap dressed as a 4090, I actually walked out because I did not know what to do and the suprim was nearly 350 Canadian over the trio! This video just confirmed my gut feeling that there is no difference.....(I'm a total noob trying to get a new rig rather than have a prebuilt) so I thank you for this video genuinely appreciate it 🙏
I own this "bag of crap dressed as a 4090", which is called Trio. An excellent "bag of crap dressed as 4090"! Quiet and without any problem. I use it at the default speed, without any overclocking. This graphics card, like my previous graphics cards, will have to last for many years (at least 6), as it will still pass through my two children's computers. Hence, durability is more important than just a few more frames. And speaking of durability, we are yet to see how all these vapor chambers will behave in the coming years. When are they going to start leaking? Did they all come with the correct amount of coolant? This is, for me, the great advantage of Trio. It is one of the few 4090s that comes with an all-in-one cooling solution, which has already proven to be more than reliable with the 3090 and is also proving to be effective on the 4090s.
@@letsplayskyrimle9391 oh wow, that's a great perspective I actually never thought of the Vapor chamber question. Thank you so much for highlighting this for me, I think I'm going to pull the trigger and pickup the Trio. Thank you again, I truly appreciate it, enjoy your card 🙏
Yea trio is just durable because vapor chambers eventually dry out
I have a founders and it barely hits 58 degrees and i have a 140 clock OC. I love it! great video!
Just picked up my strix oc, it's super cool, hasn't gone over 65c and doesn't seem to have the coil whine others are getting
I have the Suprim X myself (it was the only one I was able to snag at MSRP at the time) its been a fantastic card. I even use the mousepad. the GPU stand sucks though. and even with its 525w max, I rarely see it get about 450 or so, I tried the Strix OC as well, with its 600w max, still same around 450w max runtime, now I did force it to 600w with overclocking, but the performance difference was VERY negligible. Maybe if you are crazy enough to use a 1000w mod you can get some more out of the card, but honestly Id just leave it as is.
I think this is a good conclusion, especially take the card that you find the most beautiful for your case according to your tastes
To go more that 450w you need to replace the stock power cable with aftermarket 12VHPWR, 600W one. The power is restricted by the bios and by the cable
I managed to snag a non-OC TUF, really glad I was able to save the $200 vs the TUF-OC or the similarly priced MSI SuprimX. My new case hasn't arrived yet so I haven't built the PC to test the performance myself, but I'm glad to know from this testing that the performance across these models is virtually identical.
ASUS really isn't producing many non-OC TUFs... because they want to charge a silly premium for the itty bitty 50mhz overclock. Sigh.
Yea, but I can see price drops coming. They already dropped the 80 strix/tuf and the 70ti, which was horrendous for what it was.
Frame Chasers' quote "Law of the cheapest model" has never applied so much as it does with the 4090 series.
I got a rog strix oc and it maxes out at 3k boost clock and is stable. Absolutely a monster in blender.
I have a TUF 3080 ti, which I have been very happy with. I wouldn't hesitate in getting another TUF gpu. Although, that Suprim X looks pretty cool. Thanks for sharing.
Word is suprim 4090s dont last too long?🤷♂️🤷♂️. Grain of salt i guess
Flashed the Suprim VBIOS on to my Trio, 530w power limit now. Stays at 3000mhz all day at 62c. 58% fan speed.
i have the strix bios on my other suprim, just loose a dp.
@@JCustom The 530w vs the 600w BIOS didn't make much of a difference. So I kept the BIOS that was compatible with all the display ports.
@@JCustom Does it actually make a difference in performance? Does it only change the max power limit or also change the fan speed curve?
Galax 666w bios and this (95.02.18.00.CD) MSI 600w are the ones I use. Both work quite well but I have waterblock, so I'm not sure about fan curve.
@JJ LW I'm waiting for delivery of the suprim liquid x, hoping to flash 600w bios...did you achieve significant gains with your flash?
Hey, great video it was very informative. I was trying to buy a strict card but do you think it’s worth it if I’m going to put a water block on it anyway
Got myself a 7800x3d and TUF 4090 OC. In sweden the Strix just cost waaaay waaay to much. I was struggling in 4K so I decided to upgrade.
I think the most relevant feature is the length of warranty. They perform all the same, Gigabyte has 4 years warranty so at least you have a guarantee to have good card for some time.
Thanks for the video.
Just a question. Is Vapor chamber something important for the cooler system?
It’s more effective than a traditional cooler by a couple degrees
I believe the Aorus Master is just as long as the Strix but it's also thick as well.
Thanks for this video. I am French and my translation is approximate. If I understood correctly, there is no significant difference between these models. in my case, I'm going to do a custom watercooling. I hesitate between tuff and strix.
No difference and for water cooling you should buy the the tuf not the strix. Same pcb same lottery
I had tuff with horrible coil whine I sent it back and got a wind force and its cool and quiet!
Had two tufs, both bad coil whine. Had a trio with none. Now trying to get another tuf and a Suprim to get away from the whine.
It’s worth noting that the cheaper variants ($1599 tuf) almost never get restocked.
And lol @ gigabyte.
Every strix and tuf I have had has whine. I’ve gone thru about 10. Two of which were terrible i returned them.
Crazy, I've had a 3080 Tuf OC not coil whine and I've had two 4090 TUF OCs with no Coil whine. Only reason I had two 4090 Tuf is for an exchange to figure out something else in my system. Other than that my Tufs have all been great.
@@Dante199006 I’m jealous of your good fortune. I’m hoping the next tuf is ok as I’d rather have that then the Suprim.
Might not be replicable, but I saw them restock and sell some of the TUF units last friday around 10am pst (Asus store). Literally hit f5 a few times and it went from out of stock to buy now. About 10 minutes later it was out of stock again. That time frame might help in finding one.
Thanks for the awesome videos! So for your money you would go for the TUF OC over the STRIX OC right?
That is correct
They didn’t have the Asus version at my local microcenter so I went with the Msi gaming x trio. Massive upgrade from a 3080 10gb. ❤😊
i just bought the gaming x trio because it was cheapest, got the upgrade cable for my psu and put the asus strix performance bios on it so it can pull 600w, max core clock after putting it on an alphacool gpxn block on liquid metal it hits 3120 on core 24/7
Good lottery on that one
Great video just needs timestamps :)
thanks for the video
I Love the 4090 GAMING TRIO design, i think one day i will buy it who knows...
'Okay'
Hi man! In the beginning of the video you say that the gigabyte windforce is trash. Why is that? I’m about to buy a 4090 and I was just about to buy the windforce.
They all perform pretty much the same. The MAJOR difference is the coil whine.
I spent $10,000 on RTX 4090s and ended up returning all but Gaming OC model. Gaming OC had almost NON-EXISTENT coil whine. FE coil whine was disgustingly loud. People who only bought only one RTX 4090 probably don't know that they don't have to live with coil whine.
Every asus card whined for me so far. Same trend I had in the 30 series. I have not had that issue with the 6 or so msi cards thus far.
my gigabyte windforce is no coil whine I traded my tub for it
So much of this comes down to the silicon lottery.
I picked up 2x Suprim Liquid Suprim X 4090s.
First one does 2835 right out of the box gaming or benching and OC'd it will sit at 3120 all day gaming or benching with fantastic temps. +1600 on the mem and no coil whine. I kept this one.
Second one does ~2725 out of the box and craps out at ~2925 OC. +700 on mem and whines like someone stole its lunch money and runs a bit hotter. I returned this one.
But in the end, even the worse and/or cheapest 4090 will game like a monster. I would be just as happy with a dirt cheap 4090 with no coil whine that OC'd terribly.
The gigabyte gaming oc and the Aorus master don't use the same boards and they also don't have the same fans.
Does this guy even know what he's talking about?
gaming oc and aorus master have the same pcb. I've blocked both www.ekwb.com/configurator/waterblock/3831109901670
You are thinking about the windforce which is different.
@JCustom the number of power phases are different and the fans are indeed different. One is a sleeve barring and the other is dual ball. The windforce and oc use the same fans. Aorus is different
My 2 favorite is the aero oc ( gigabyte ) & the strix. I have the white strix.
The only gripe I have with the strix is the fact that they flipped the connecter
What about some MSRP cards that ship with only 3 pcie adapter cables to 1 12vhpwr and some "flagship" cards that come with the full 4 pcie adapter cable. That unlocks the full power.
What happens then? Should you just buy a 3rd party adapter cable to get the full 600 watts? Will it work? Or could it be that AIBs lock the MSRP cards down that come with the 3 adapter cables. So even if you get a 4 pcie adapter it wont work so you're forced to upgrade?
Im just guessing here
Are your sure the TUF OC and STRIX OC are the exact same card? I was fairly certain that the strix has more power stages than the TUF, as the TUF has spots with unused solder pads.
I'm also pretty sure the TUF and Strix have 666w bios. I could be wrong on that though, it's been a minute since I played with them or watched anything about them.
they both have a 600 bios. The pcb is the same, the only difference is the 6 additional phases on the pcb and the fan/rgb header on the pcb. I have one of each waterblocked as well.
You are right.
You sure it's the port and not the cable itself?
hey Bro ... thanks for content
i found gigabyte gaming oc on a website with good price and rog strix oc with 200 dollar upper price than gigabyte one
is 200 dollar exrta worth the strix one ??
also my hole setup with 4090 cost me around 4000 dollar too
the strix is better if you care about temps. the gigabyte card heats up way faster. that’s because the strix has way better vrms
That chip is tuned so tight that you aren’t getting much of anything for more power. It really undercuts the AIB market which is kinda funny.
@JCustom Could you help me with one question. What version of the strix 4090 should i get? The OC or the non OC? Both are at the same price.
Non of them or u will end up with terrible coil whine, speak from experience.
There's a case to go for the top GPU if you want it to run quieter - unless you are planning to upgrade to water cooling.
A bit of an addendum, but the 4090 Suprim has the top VRM - better than that of the Strix. The reference PCB actually has a really good VRM set up.
The suprim I feel is the best balance between noise and cooling. The trio really isn’t far behind. But the suprim stock fan profiles are just too on the quiet side
Just to let you guys know:
The German price tag for the RTX 4090 sits currently at 2.709 €... the water cooled version will cost you 7.200 €.
No, the PC is not included... this price is for the graphics card alone.
Hey can u tell me dif in temp between rog and tuf version rtx 4080 tnks for the video
couple degrees nothing that will make any significant difference at the end of the day
“I’m not buying that trash” 😂😂😂 quote of the year
What do you think about the RTX 4080 versions, same top quality suprim x and strix?
So my strix fan doesnt go above 1000rpm its super silent. Its temps are 59c and 61c under heaviest load. Its so silent i cant even hear it on 99% of the time. Seems like this genrration every gpu has a massive variance from every brand. Its also like a 50/50 chance you get bad coil whine.
Im so so happy I got the strix. Been great to use this past month.
It will be a very very hard gpu to get rid of or replace when the time comes. Its gotta be the best gpu ive ever owned nit just because of pure in game performance but the db/temps and just fans overall its like my fan bearings are incredible to.
wait till you see the 5000 series cooler *.*
MSI GeForce RTX 4090 SUPRIM X 24G is louder tho? ROG 4090 STRIX OC is quietist
suprim is more quiet out the box due to its fan curve
had my white version@@JCustom found it to be just as quite as most geforce cards, kicking arse too. not even hogwarts can stand it.
Is the non-oc strix also the exact same card as the oc strix, similar to what you said about the TUF card? Thanks.
Yes identical
So the Strix is the best of them all?
Your bar graphs are ridiculous. The way they're set up it makes it look like there's this huge difference between the stock performance of each card and their overclock performance when there actually isn't, lol.
Anyone with the mind set of an adult would read the numbers we aren’t in school looking at a bar chart wondering what it is 😂
Likin' that Suprim.
I saw that the memory temperatures are higher in tuf about 7-10C higher than strix and other cards. I am not buying a 4090 but people at my place need to care about these smaller differences because we have an outside temperature of 30-40C during summer. So is the TUF card that you have temperature really higher in the memory side?
Could just be poor seating of the stock memory pads. I’ve taken so many of them apart now that I think it may be a one off
what about coil whine issue ?
Good question
have you reviewed the aero g 4090?
Ok. Worth paying $170 CAD right NOW for a suprim over the gaming x trio? Both on sale..
Hey man what kind of Power Supply would you recommend to get in a rtx 4090 system? Currently i got a Ryzen 9 5900x and a rtx 3080, in gaming the system pull around 450-550watt (wattmeter hooked up to pc).
I got a aorus 850watt psu inside which should run with a 4090 but i should probably get a new one aswell, when upgrading gpu.
i have the same setup as you got the rm 1000x shift
seasonic over everything. if you are going to pair that 4090 with a new gen mobo, cpu, ram then yes. if not then just wait till you upgrade everything
Very nice Video
Im curious about the difference between the Strix and the MSI water cooled GPU. Awesome video
i have another suprim and strix waterblocked. Honestly the suprim air cooler at 100% for core temp is not far off from your average waterloop. At a 420 watt load and 100% fan the suprim air cooler will not go over 48c in a 23c ambient. As for performance you are really going to be relying on silicone lottery. I have quite a few 90s and many come by, so the far the best oc cards I have had are a Founders and the very first TUF i got. These 4 are all pretty average.
Is there a difference in performance between the Suprim and the gaming x trio?
Vanilla TUF why buy a fancy one and get 1% more performance when I’m just gonna replace it in a year with something better
Okay, I might sound stupid right now, but why is the 480 watt power limit on the MSI 4090 x trio bad?
Reduces theoretical overclocking ability since you can't pump as many volts through it, I imagine.
Suprim is pronounced exactly the same as Supreme. Suprim is latin for Supreme but pronounced the same, lets not butcher it. As a side note, I want the white strix to get the philips head screwdriver lol
Which one did you find colder and quieter? Which has less coil whine?
All are about the same. With the strix cooler being better overall. All the asus cards whine that I’ve had so far just some a lot more or less
i am stuck between a 2135 $ asus tuf (cheapest 4090 in my region) or a Strix white 2380$ ( black is 200 usd more expensive) , does the 220 usd premium make sense , i am from India so no gpu resell market and i will be using this for 6-8 years till it's ready to be sold for dirt cheap . should j pay the markup for better cooling and possibly haveing white gpu
cheapest you can get.
I bought the strix, just for the resale value. It’s water blocked with the killer alphacool block.
You can’t OC the MSI supreme x?
Can you water cool the Asus 4090 GPUs? Which Asus 4090 to get if water cooling?
In most of my builds here with the 4000 series, I am using a waterblocked strix or tuf.
@@JCustom I bought the Tuf OC and EK water block. No need to waste money on the Strix since I was ripping off the fans.
Weird your Suprim's fans won't go over 45%. I have owned two and both will hit 60% if pushed enough. It will hit 55% before it lets itself hit 70c. Both of my Suprim's functioned like this. I got rid of the first because it had a strange rattle throughout the heatsink when the fans hit 1800-2000rpm. It had a good stock boost clock at 2850mhz though compared to my current one which boosts at 2805-2820. Better bin too though I can hit 3ghz whereas the other one crashed at like 2970. Which is weird because it boosted so high. My first 4090 was a gaming trio and that was a god bin core and mem clock wise but I got greedy and went for a more luxurious card. Having all that plastic on the shroud bothered me paying that much for a card but overall I think I liked the design more than the suprim. If I could have got the stock Tuf for 1600 I definitely would have. I have been watching for them to come into stock at microcenter in mayfield heights, Oh but I only ever see the OC edition and I won't pay an extra 200 bucks for that scam. Because Asus and MSI sure as hell do not bin their chips anyways. That shows me with the Suprim and Gaming trio series. I had a Tuf 4080 I got for $1000. And Tuf 4070ti I got for msrp. Gave the 4070ti away as a gift though. Oh and hardware unboxed had the same issue with their gaming trio fans when they did base vs premium video on the suprim and gaming trio models. Which is weird because same issue on a different SKU. And it's strange to me Gaming trio is considered base when the Ventus exists. Makes me wonder why the ventus exists at all. Isn't the ventus even more cut down and power limited to 100% @450w? wondering if the power phases and vrm is the same as the gaming trio. Sounds like maybe they flashed the quiet bios twice on your suprim. And they make that mistake often with different cards.
Ventus is 80 only. I have 2 suprims and they both have a fan cap in the 40s. Strange stuff
@@JCustom man that is really weird! My gaming trio was like that I’m pretty sure I said that though. Something going on over at MSI. Lol. If you look at techpowerups list of bios’ for the Suprim there’s like 3 or 4 different bios for the same card. And okay that makes sense. You figure they would make a 90 ventus considering they made a 3090 version of it. I guess tons of people had problems with the thermals over time with that model so maybe that’s the reason. They don’t want to release a 4090 with their cheapest most cut down parts
every card that got power limit to 600watts never goes 600 watts only spikes. So average are all cards 440 watts...510 watt cards goes max 490 watts 600 watts goes max 520 watts.
The cheapest model is the windforce. Does the rule applies to this one too? 😂
My 4090 msi trio is a overclocking dream for me. +200MHz core +2000MHz mem. Clock 3,015 MHz 3,145 MHz. Highest temp I have recorded on my msi trio is 66c and the memory has never gone over 66c that I have recorded while even on the stock oc bios fan curve. Highest watts while benchmarking I have gotten it up to 440w. But gaming I have gotten it up to 423w as a sudden peak but averages 277w after 4 hours of gaming. I also have my hardware in the phanteks g500a so that for sure helps temps for sure but even so my evga 3080ti ftw3 in the g500a would be at 76c average and memory at 80c average and always over 400w without an overclock being I can't overclock my 3080ti at all without it crashing. I love my msi trio. It overclocks better than most higher end way more expensive cards on air.
@Aragonshow it’s very stable. Just played cyberpunk yesterday for a few hours matter of fact with this overclock being this overclock is set and on 24/7. My main game I play is bf2042 and it gives me 10fps more average that I’ve seen with this overclock. Love my 4090. Just an amazing card and a huge leap in Performance from my 3080ti.
@aragonshow7637lol why would games crash after 20 minutes of overclocking with literally the strongest gpu ever built ?

I bought a TUF OC and a Strix OC. There was an appreciable difference. The Strix used 50w less yet it hit 100mhz more core clock on similar tests (excluding any overclocks). Is that simply silicon lottery?
OK but what was the difference in frames?? Was it worth going from tuf to strix for the extra $$?
@@dennisrotondi169 Less power consumption and more overclocking headroom, I would say yes. Thought my entire system is TUF (Case Mobo) so the aesthetic of TUF looked more pleasing. In the end the TUF had too much coil-whine and I let it go .
Yes pretty much. Each chip will behave differently just like with cpus. Leakage will vary etc
The fps difference will come down to silicone lottery.
@@zedovski difference of 1 fps?
Suprim x or asus strix? Im stuck between those tbh.
Did you decide yet? I'm stuck in between those too
Did any of you decide, I am in the same scenario,
Yup, I went the suprim x and I'm more than happy with it. I bought a strix and there wasn't any difference. the temps were the same, and performance wise, the difference is negligible. Suprim also has better components. Also, I hated the strix brick like design, so I returned it and got the suprim. It looks sleek and less gamer like. Also, I saved 300$ lol. So at this point you're really paying that extra 300$ just for the asus branding, 40 series works differently so all the high end cards are already maxed to the redline.
Yikes. Those FPS numbers in Cyberpunk are NOT nice numbers. For any of these cards. What on earth would I have gotten if I tried my 980 Ti? 5 FPS?
At the time of writing the cheapest model here in the UK is the Founders Edition (and the prettiest to my eye). Would you say that is worth it over any AIB? Strip and Suprim are several hundred £££ more for example.
The best one is the founders if you can get it due to price/build/temps
Thanks. In graph of temp, where is trio and tuf?
its on the same graph, there are 4 gpus.

I am tried to look and look research shit nonstop I just want to get a good system with out problem with good amount of time not big at overclocking and probably won't be in the future. I just want to play games and process some photos for at least 5 year with out thinking too much and do not want to deal with problems. I am kind of done looking to be honest not fun anymore all that companies trying to confuse customers and forcing to buy expansive stuff or creating doubt on their products. my current gpu is fucking gtx965m.

My msi suprime x rtx 4090
What the **** are you talking about!? Gigabyte Gaming OC and Aorus Master have 4 years warranty and are the coolest temperature wise out there ... + no coil whine. You're biased ... sure Suprim X has higher quality components (that's only good on paper), but 1 year less warranty and higher temps.
exactly I traded my tuf for the wind force because its cool quiet and no coil whine
I agree with what you've written, but you forgot to mention that Gigabyte has one of the worst reputations in the industry for processing RMAs.
pretty sure Gigabyte gaming oc is the best 4080/90. its priced well, built well, and you can flash a strix bios on it to maximize power limit.
Yea but, the rog strix obv performs better than literally all of them, u also proceeded to call 2 of the 4 “complete trash” & “don’t buy this trash” then said “buy the bare bones PNY” lol my guy, wtf? Foh
Im ordering my 4090 in a couple of days.. BUT im sold in to the strix version.. am i doing a mistake getting it while i do 0 overclocking.
I have no issue paying for quality, i rather get it expensive and i know i get prenium. So, is it a mistake or just here asus take my monies?
I don't feel the strix will give you any more oc headroom than a cheaper variant. You're really just paying for the brand and the cooler. All the 90s come with good coolers currently, the strix one does require less fan speed to accomplish similar temps compared to other models (but not really something you would notice when gaming). However, I do not feel it's worth the asking price unless you are really into the brand. Personally, I feel the suprim is the best gpu for the price premium. You get the most robust power delivery and a very good cooler if you wanted to a pay a premium. I also have not had bad experiences with MSI rma. It's also 250 less than the strix.
so 1fps difference in cyberpunk huh....
Crazy 1 to 2 fps at 4k on average lol
Ok?
Ok.
Alright
ASUS TUF: Okay :)
MSI Gaming OC: Okay :)
MSI Suprim X: Okay :)
ASUS Strix OC: ... :(
The "TRASH" that you hated so much is the one with zero coil whine. The rest are pure utter trash.
gaming oc 20 50vs , aorus master has 24,
cmon base is the best always. just get waterblock and be chilled bro ;)
Bad advice. If your going with a 4090 get the best version
I’m in the middle here lol. I’d water block a tuf oc with the savings from the strix difference. But, I know strix gets the best binned chips and has a higher OC but the fps difference between these cards are like 5-10 fps. Which does not merit the premium costs imo
Okay
..Okay.
Ok
someone please buy me a 4090 im poor 😢
