The "ribs" you placed on the inside, if you would've turned them sideways and placed them underneath and used them to attach your legs together that would've helped support the bottom like you intended without the purchase of angle brackets.

Just a quick safety tip on linseed oil. Any rags you get the oil on can naturally combust in the trash or rag can and create a fire.
