    I am excited for this trend. I wish the movement wasn't backed with a -core where people are just joining in because its the new cool thing, but progress is progress. I am so tired of seeing those videos of girls with drawers filled with blushes where they just organize them. Like girlie you can't use all of those in your lifetime. @peachcookie6624 I feel like that's a pretty negative take. It is true, some people will only echo it as long as it's a trend, but for some it has the potential to become a mindset. & to me those little wins are netter than no wins at all. In an ideal world, yeah, everyone would change their mindset & stop overconsumption on their own, but the fact is this is a less than ideal world in so many regards.
      But your perspective is up to you. Either take the small wins as they come, or focus on what we still lack and focus on the larger losses. Or a bit of both

    It's the same push to be mindful of your consumption repackaged under a different name, and as long as it gets more people thinking about their spending habits and impact on the environment I'm all for it. I just want it to create lasting change, instead of being just another buzzword to be tossed out and forgotten.

If it’s just a “look” intended to be worn on the street, then sure, but I don’t think that’s what is intended.

    I think there's good and bad sides to this trend. I like that it might combat the ridiculous culture of hauls, fast-fashion overconsumption, and constant buying into the evolving trends and "cores" of tiktok. I'd say it's a bit different than minimalism that millennials made popular in that it isn't always advocating for getting rid of things or being super bare and neutral. It's an extension of the deinfluencing trend that's been going around too. What you have is good and serves you well, you don't need to buy things you didn't need until you saw it on tiktok. However, I think that it is also at risk of being forgotten and moved-on from just like every other trend if people don't truly understand that over-consumption is bad for their wallets and the environment/society. Under-consumption is really just normal consumption but we've become so used to over-consumption that it seems like a big jump.

    Social media is one big market place these days no matter what your interested in there's a company ready to pounce on and advertise you stuff. If this teaches a few people to jump off the trends cycle it's a win. Are planet cannot sustain fast capitalism.

    i think something that gets left out of this conversation very often is classism. aestheticizing normal consumption or sometimes just the poverty lifestyle should be criticized in my opinion, as someone who grew up poor and is now as an adult below the poverty line. the fact that people who partake in the "underconsumption-core" trend have the option to pick that "aesthetic" already tells me a lot about their privileged position in society. i feel like a lot of the youtube commentary community rn is praising "underconsumption" too much without taking into account the fact that it sometimes comes across as tone deaf to those who have never even had the chance to choose something else than frugal living.

    the hair is giving!!! also underconsumption core is such a mouthful. and heavily misunderstands what 'under-consumption' actually is. it doesn't mean you need to go back and live the way your grandparents did. it just means that you shouldn't buy the new iphone every year and engage in fast fashion and consumerist hauls and unboxing, you shouldn't buy the designer ugly crap handbag when the moderately priced one does the job. i saw someone making their own shampoo in the name of underconsumption, like... girl, you don't need to be doing all that. shampoo is a NECESSITY!
    underconsumption doesn't have to come at the cost of a boring beige white apartment or house. it's all about just buying what you need and some additional things to spruce up ur mental health.

Being able to meal prep more as I work a lot of hours (hospital NOCs) and this would keep the guess work out of what I will eat at work.
      Unfortunately, "some" in this movement would akin it to being an over consumer, when it's not. It's helping me stay healthy and I need that with my medical issues. Better than expensive grab and go because I am too exhausted to cook much. Thought have been bringinf my rice cooker to work with one pot meals in it. Game changer.

    one trend i actually like (and can participate in!) i really like this shift towards underconsumption and i've been doing the #shopmystash where we rotate products from our own inventory each week so it feels like we're using new makeup to avoid the desire to buy new ones

    Ngl I really don't like Zoe unlimited. I loved a couple vids like her Emma C one, but I thought u touched on exactly what she failed to grasp in her trad wife one. Her analysis of nara was basically "people are jealous of her and that's why they don't like her" but it's like, if I said that ab the Kardashians or even other influencers you'd see thru that argument right away and see why it's a cop out. I liked ur use of the word soft flex bc that'd exactly how her and Ballerina Farm feel

    i agree that this becoming a trend is weird in some way but so is every trend ever if you rly think about it, and this movement feels like it has a really good intention behind it, trying to gather a community of people who want to reject overconsumption and in a small way maybe make a big difference in the world i’m all for it i also love the rise of creators who speak about recycling and reducing waste, shopping second hand/ethically, overall just trying to reduce their carbon footprint and making that one of the main things they center their content on is would love to see this become more and more popular

    Part of me feels like the Stanley Cup craze is a big part of what started the 'new' trend. People realized it's wasteful and saw the heat people were taking for having so many cups they will never use.

    I think things like this have to become a “trend” to be acceptable because of the lack of safety many of us feel for being human/ourselves. If I see someone living a life similar to me then I feel “safe” and accepted. As a generation, we’re always trying to find ways to fit in and unfortunately trends are ways for us to feel noticed when at the end of the day, we are all worthy of being seen just by being ourselves. It sucks because for as long social media exists, being “normal” won’t always feel comfortable and safe, and who knows what the next trend will be where being a simple human is looked down upon again. I will say, I feel like the “under-consumption core” stems from the “I’m just a girl” trend, where girls were able to share their truth/reality that felt comforting to other girls who are similar, which is great! BUT all of these trends are catered mostly to women and I think that’s where the problem lies because we’ll always be finding ways to feel safe/accepted in a society that feeds off of our consumption regardless of how big or small it is. At the end of the day, womanhood is constantly being juiced into different trends and used for companies to benefit off of which really makes me wonder when we’ll be able to truly just be our authentic selves because we feel safe to😅

    • @tinysey
      @tinysey  Месяц назад +1

      Thats a really good analysis. Felling the safety to express yourself is probably a big factor in all of this.
