    The machine is really good but There is a big problem with the machine, but you can fix it.
    How to Master barista Express:
    It is my first Espresso machine and I finally mastered it. Here is how to do it.
    1) adjust flow rate by grinding finner or Coarser!
    There is an INNER Bur(!!) if you already on level 1 and the Espresso still flows to fast. (For me it’s 4 on the inside bur and 7 to 4 on the outer one - 7to4 depends on the age of coffee)
    - Goal: 17g beans IN 34g espresso OUT in 25 seconds
    Important! The Problem with the machine is the high pressure. It’s always on maximum when you follow all instructions. (16 bar!! - a perfect shot is 6-9 bar)
    You need to make a so called „pre infusion shot“
    To perform a pre infusion shot You just need to press and hold the „Shot-Button“ until the shot is finished.
    Result: 17g IN 34g Out 25 Seconds with 7bar
    This way you can also use a bottomless portafilter and it won’t Channel anymore!
    Hope this little guide helps

    also, when do i press the timer button on the scale? should i clock the moment i press the double shot button, or should it be pressed only when liquid begins to extrude?

  • @Felipe170599
    @Felipe170599 2 месяца назад

    Great video, thanks, Ethan! I understand the concepts and how to react according to how I get my shots, but I have to say that, at least for my palate, I can only get to a non-bitter taste when I extract fast shots. Every time I get on the "sweet spot" for dose, ratio, type of beans, grinding and time, I end up with a bitter shot, so I just gave up and don't care about timing anymore haha
    Any idea "out of the ordinary" of what to test in a case like this?
    P.S.: would love to know the grind setting you use on the internal burr grinder.

    Question - I have the breville barista max and while the grinder can grind rly fine, the machine can't seem to create the pressure necessary to pull the shot.
    What can I do if I literally can't make the grind size finer without choking out the machine??

      Most likely the Beans are too old. Try to buy freshly roasted beans and always avoid buying in the stores since they never have a roast date and are old most of the time. There are plenty of videos about this topic if you are further interested.

  • @Stan_sprinkle
    @Stan_sprinkle Месяц назад

    People, if you’re just starting, please head the advice of “use fresh coffee beans”. Only buy stuff that has the actual roast date on it. There are different opinions on the best time to use beans for espresso… some say fresh roasted, some say 1 to 2 weeks after roast so some of the gases the beans produce don’t mess up the pulling of shots. My opinion is, don’t buy beans that are more than 3 weeks old, and don’t bother using them for espresso if they’re more than 5 weeks old.

  • @robertsteiner7813

    First of all, thank you! But a question is still not answered: What‘s the ideal water amount? Depending on how ground the beans are, the amount of my espresso changes.

    When you're talking about the ratio , you mean about a single dose of espresso?

    • @leonknte
      @leonknte 2 месяца назад +1

      Ratio 1:2 means you put 18grams of coffee (in case of a double shot) in your basket and expect 36grams of liquid to be in your cup. In case of a single shot you put 10grams of coffee into the basket and expect 20grams of liquid in your cup.

    • @thomasnoulas1554
      @thomasnoulas1554 2 месяца назад

      @@leonknte Yeah I figured ,thanks though for the clarification.I never gave any attention to the ratio before seeing this video and I always followed the 1:3 ratio as it is the one that many coffee shops use here in Greece.
