TEST OF THE PROTOTYPE BLADE # 1 from MESSERFIEBER - GERMANY
T10 HANDLE SCALES
N690 STEEL
Shot with a GLOCK 17, 9 mm bullets
SHOT with Assault Rifle STEYR AUG, 5,56 mm
SHOT with SHOTGUN in the car (Stoeger - UBERTI Double Defence shotgun)
I think you went extra hard on this one! Glad it was only a prototype, maybe it's a little easier to break because of how much leverage you get from that massive handle. I can't wait to see the next edition, MARLBORO!
i also tested one with the shorter handle! vid is coming soon!
about the handle! i was thinking the same thing!!!!
There is no too hard test on a knife if one day you'll trust your life to this 💪
He is Not Even Talking it easy on his own design. That is integrity.
thanks!
Man stuff
That's why we follow you JoeX, a genuine guy, no BS!
This test was hard AF, awesome!
thanks a lot!
total integrity is guaranteed by "one more time" awesome video.
i did a second one!
Respect to your integrity!!
thanks!
@@joex the ultimate Joe x blade should withstand the shotgun...see if WTG wants to make one
@@MrSudheerkenguva WTG no thanks!
GI Tanto and Skrama 240 had a Euro stainless offspring. I think a reasonable hard-use intended hybrid design based on durable, well proven, and high value to cost knives. A couple of things I would consider changing: A. Get rid of what looks like a sharpening choil, ie. Keeeping entire ricasso simple, sturdy. B. The lanyard hex on pommel should be 1/2" (13mm) and at ricasso hole fitting a common driver for screw sets or small square driver shape to use socket sets. I would try the same steel selection again to become more certain of overall design and size. Good show JoeX!!! Hope this can lend a hand. Cheers from Alaska!
thanks a lot! i need to conisder this!
Great job beating the snot out of your own blade. This is why we trust you
cool! thanks!
Loose the sharpening choil. It's a stress riser and it broke there first. There is more than one way to get to 60HRC. This one was not the best one. Tho I believe it would break no matter what, it could endure more. I expected a break at the pole. Glued scales prevent easy damage to it. As always, nice one.:)
thanks for the intel my friend!
The brick claims another soul. Glad to see you went just as hard with this one as any other blade you have tested, I was impressed with how it handled the stump considering its length. Would like to see how the other prototypes handle your test. Thanks for the test Joe, you’re the 🐐
yes it took my dark one!
i will do that!
JoeX always integral with his comments even on his prototype .Great Joe
glad u like it!
Nice blade! Thanks for the hard work you put in the testing Joe X.
u are welcome!
What an absolute Beast of a Blade😈😎 I hope that a mini version will come along soon - I cant wait to edc a JOE X knife!!!
nice!
Get rid of the cutout where the edge meets the ricasso and give the grinding transition a bigger radius. As it is, that's one big stress raiser right there. I'm too drunk to know what I'm on about. It's just the prototype. Marlboro! 🔪💥🐝
ok cool! thanks for the info! Prost!
Only one word for this test: Marlboro. And Joe X went all in on his blade, as expected.
thanks my friend!
That stump has to be the hardest thing I’ve ever seen. Besides JoeX! lol. Looking good Joe.
thanks!
@@joex Need some limited-edition drink mats or handle scales or a pipe made from that wood to auction.
I knew it'd be the brick.
Im afraid the main problem is likely the N690. That is by no stretch of imagination a steel that rates on the tough end. If enough corrosion resistance to rate as a 'stainless' is a requisite then I'd suggest something like 14c28n, 420 HC, or aus6.
brick did it!
damn that stump is actually moving with the tip test thats amazing
tip test was good!
Tip really good design, unusual to see the handle break like it did, I think G10 is harder than micarta but less flexible than micarta. Good start for the first try of your knife design. 👍
So we should use Micarta then?? would be cool for me!!!
I would also vote for the micarta handle.
I like the stainless option with a Kydex sheath.
I'll be watching closely so that when the JOE X knife is perfected i can get one of the first 100.
Thank you for another fine video JOE X.
ok cool, thanks!
6mm thick with a tanto makes for a very strong tip. The N690 is just too brittle for El Bricko. A tougher steel or lower Rockwell might be the answer.
i am thinking about the Tufan Blade steel!"
@@joex 5160 is a very tough steel and reasonably priced. Edge retention is bad though and it's not stainless. It's trying to get a budget friendly tough steel with decent edge retention and preferably stainless that's the problem. Just keep trying amigo you'll get there.
I would go vor cpm 3V
It's the king of toughness and endgeretention combined
@@joelwinkler484 Definitely an option. Just wonder if the price would be too high ?
@@joexSame. It seems a better fit for a longer steel. N690 is good for a short design it seems. So the new steel + G10 would be a nice combo @joex
Marlboro!!!!
If someone had told me that the N690 could be this tough, I wouldn't have believed it, I can't wait for the next prototype
yeah me too!
Oh shit Frau Schmitt!
But no problem, JOE X optimize the problem soon! 😉👍
Good work, allways this to you: 👍🤘👻
thanks my friend!
Fack,fack... Ich dachte dieses Projekt schafft bis Ende .
Das ist Schwert 🤙
nächstes mal!
S5 0r S7 it would be indestructible!
ok
GOOD LUCK ON YOUR KNIFE BROTHER!
thanks!
Joe this is an amazing design my friend. Outstanding
thanks my friend!
Now that was what i call proper testing.
thanks!
Awesome! Thanks!
u are welcome!
The redoak makes fantastic fire wood and is known as the queen of cooking fuel,( white oak, being the king). Oak burns hot ,bright, and clean when properly dried. Our national forests are a disaster do to lack of natural fires or harvesting. Joex is doing God’s work breaking down deadfall. Just remember that this amazing tree can literally satisfy every one of a man’s needs, and should be harvested aggressively where it’s invasive. Have fun and stay sharp my freinds!
thanks for this comment! i am thinking the same! our wood here are infested with mushrooms and bakteria!
I would love real wooden oak scales on the new knife.....getting tired of the synthetic bs
Real wood would more than likely break after the 1st batoning, well the kind that Joe does anyway. I known synthetics are pretty meh....but tougher than anything else out there
Awesome design…things a beast. I think I need one of them. Keep up the great work.
Marlboro!!!!
I sincerely think it is a very good start Joe, a lot of leverage makes the brick test very hard for this one. 58 hrc means that there is a great balance between edge retention and strength. I consider that balance very important since the knife is made primarily for cut and chop.
thanks!
Crazy how the vibration from the shock found the plunge grind and not the corner of that little square. 👍Another great video! Cant wait to get me a JoeX Marlboro
thanks!
Very cool knife. Looking forward for next prototype. Great video.
thanks!
Awesome work keep it up 💯👍🤠⚔️
thanks!
Micarta might be a good choice for such a long handle. It is quite flexible.
yeah true!
I am very surprised a piece of N690 lasted that long (especially at 68RC... LOL that can only have been 58RC).
If the blade were shorter it would have lasted longer, but for a long piece of stainless steel this did great.
yeah for a normal blade it would be ok!
A wonderful blade that can penetrate the body of a car without pain.
This would come in handy for 50 years when canned food was invented.
Because it wasn't long before the can opener was invented.
A sharp knife at times, a lightweight pry bar at other times
It would make the job of soldiers and firefighters, who need to deal with various situations with less equipment, easier.
If a knife can pass Mr. JOE X's rigorous testing, then this product is not the only one.
However, I have seen few items that could.
I can't wait to see the knife finished and in action in the next video.
I want to thank you from your Japanese fans.
thanks!
Thank you for giving a lot of abuse and giving no excuses for this prototype knife!!! The show was amazing 🤩 I think the steel should be the same as Messerfieber TUFAN has, which is indestructible. So change the steel and you will have absolutely MARLBORO without breaking 🥳
i am saying this about the Tufan in my second vid!!!! will be posted soon!!!!
Maybe a rubber grip like on the Terävä blades would work.
Hadn't watched to the end. You said it yourself.
possible!
yeah! i talk too much!
Oida geile Vorstellung, Landsmann! Danke
bitte sehr, wir sind einfach die geilsten!
Super excited to see these in test!
Sorry if others already mentioned - when you say "the blade is still straight", it's often impossible to see/verify in the video, it shows as if it was bent, due to the barrel distortion of the lens, especially when it's close. See around 7:20 for example
i know, the gopro.... cheers!
Now thats a KNIFE.
yeah!
Good thing it's only a prototype but great edge retention and awesome tip.
thanks!
Well, it is a prototype.
I was impressed with the test of the ColdSteel Black Bear Bowie. The Coldsteel Black Bear Bowie If I remember did not break but the metal was soft, so the edge got damaged. Somewhere in the different steels is a better compromise.
The Coldsteel Black Bear Bowie had a molded grip that If I remember had no issues.
The steels used on various choppers seem to well-known but their typical heat treament means the tips are going to bend.
cool thanks!
Kydex over Leather for that knife! With a Nylon Dangler, no TechLock (just my idea 😉)
good one!
@@joex gerne 👍🏼
Sorry, but I think Messerfieber does not produce kydex sheaths. Leather sheath is perfect for me 👍👍🍻
Kydex is ok. But with this length better with Dangler. Leather Dangler for me: best from two worlds
That blade did amazing
cool!
Great job on the video
thanks!
Interesting. Onwards and upwards!
thanks!
Perhaps the hole in the blade affects the heat treatment in a weird way. I'd ditch da hole anyway :-) Though rubber liner between decent g10 scales and tang? It's a very cool knife, I would not give up on it yet. But what do I know. Anyway, nobody can say you spared your own blade Joe⚔️ !!
Great vid again my friend 👍
maybe, Messerfieber is on it!
I vote also ditching the holes.
One way to reduce shock is to give it a pronounced pommel swell like a traditional kukri. This allows you to swing it with a more relaxed grip so you aren't absorbing as much shock. A relaxed grip also allows more wrist rotation and momentum, letting you hit harder. I don't like kukris but they have the best grip design for a chopping or striking tool.
ok thanks for the info!
The final knife is definitely worth buying
i hope so!
Saludos Joe X
gracias!
Nice, man! People get so caught up on steel choices and other small details, but it seems like you've realized that steel choice is a lot less important than geometry and heat treat that match the goal.
yes HT is very importante!
This looks awesome Joe! It looks like the blade geometry was a convex grind. If you did a partial flat grind youd still retain a lot of stregnth but get better slicing performance!
thanks for the info!
Schön, schön! Der JoeX SmashX24!!! Ein Schädelknacker für alle Gelegenheiten!!!
yes!
I don't know why you're disappointed JoeX - I think you really hit it out of the park with that knife. Really love the blade design - very unique.
If you want it to survive the brick better, it needs to be a .25" / 12 mm thick
The tip probably chipped from hitting chunks of Tops Steel embedded in the stump
thanks for the info Rick! i tested another one too, a better result, vid is coming soon!
@@joex Awesome 👍
maybe redesign without a sharpening choil?
maybe!
Go Joe !
Marlboro!!!!
It looks so badass.
Marlboro!!!!
Joe X was surrounded by 200 armed men. The situation seemed hopeless. But Joe X let them go….Marlboro
haha, yeah!
thanks!
Wow im gonna buy one, love the leather sheath.
cool!
Unbreakable - MARLBORO ! 💪
not!
I still consider the Terava Skrama 240 to be "The JOE X Knife", since it performed better than any other knife in all of his tests, and it's very affordable.
but it breaks too!
I want... no no no... I NEED one of these
yeah bro!
There is only 2 ways. Steel with high HRC hardness, but brittle. Lower HCR hardness, but flexible. Maybe 1055 or 1075 carbon steel may be better. Another very high quality steel with high HRC is D2 steel, maybe better than N690.
ok!
You are wrong too many times. D2 would break out like a saw and the tip would be gone in no time. 1075 may be good for a shovel. 1055 is soft. This knife performed well and will not roll like other butter knives. I'd buy it if the price was right
Good! My Input: Make handle out of Micarta (less brittle than G10) and make a curved transition instead of a square one where the grind ends (where it broke).
ok
I saw a lot of stress risers on the blade. Messerfieber knows not to do that, especially on a knife they send to you!
Whenever they get it right, I'll be buying two!
ok thanks for the info!
If you design a blade and survives you, I will buy it. I already know the Creeley folklore beast and trying to get my hands on the hemlock Aries
cool!
The GI Joe X Skramato
yeah!
Talk to Glock about making a Joe X model. That would be MARLBORO!!
Thanks for all your hard work, Mr. X!
Glock is done!

nice tanto design easy to sharpen! beastly chopper for its size.
thanks!
that is a bad boy

Dein Design cool 🎉 interessant jox messer . Viel spass noch .
danke!
I have the same knife, it's called Skrama, even the handle is same design, just different steel😉👏🏻
i have 10 Skramas!
Skrama has a tip? i did not know that!
i hope the final version comes with a kydex sheet
yeah!

I love your videos, because then I know which knife I have to buy next 👍🏽u make my decision easier 🔥
cool!
skrama rival! I wait fervently and I will buy, keep it up joe!
thanks!
I think the break might've been a fluke. It snapped right at the indent of the handle. Maybe the grain had a poor fit there, and once it had cracked, it just opened up.
i tested the other one too! vid is coming soon!
Final Fantasy VII main hero sword , you steal it ))
never played a video game in my live!
Let's goooooooo 🎉
Maybe use a high carbon steel... 5160, 8670, 52100.... just an idea..
Marlboro!!!!
yeah true!
I clearly prefer stainless over the rust. It seems you also want your model to be corrosion resistant. N690 also uses FOX Knives for large blades, the fact that the blade broke like this in my opinion must be a hidden weak point, not the steel. Even in this way, the N690 lasted longer than I expected. It would be interesting to make its heat treatment to perfection like Buck makes its 420. In terms of strength 14c28N might be the best choice. Greetings. PM
ok cool!
Impressive already.
thanks!
I see how a real full tang works well with such a long blade, it doesn't ruin the balance.
exactly!
Excellent prototype! Perhaps some rubber scales might be better, there are different densities that can be machined. As for the blade breaking when it is struck on the back, note that it breaks from the edge to the back, as it cannot withstand the traction in the region of the edge that is tempered. Perhaps increasing the radius in the region of the edge where the breakage began could help relieve tension in that region. Great knife! 🤘🏻🍻
ok!
Maybe Messerfieber can send you the same profile of blade, but make it just a hair thicker, eliminate the choil, smooth the transition between the grind and the flat to make it less abrupt, use something like glass impregnated nylon handles, and then make 5 exact copies in 3V, Z-Tuff, AEB-L, 5160, and 8670 steels and find out which one survives the longest - a test in which the only difference btw blades is the steel would be really interesting!
ok!
Great testing!
thanks!
What a blade ! I want one !! Marlboro ❤
Marlboro!!!!
Hey Joe,
You should make an ACTUAL baton from a branch. Short, thick head with the handle carved thinner. The long thin sticks you use don’t have enough power…
i like it that way!
Just Joe x making car ,cabriolet with knife 😂
yeah!
Aeb-L stainless steel could be worth trying out. Its a tough stainless steel. The knife spine should be much thicker and the blade wider so that the spine wont give in. You need more mass as thickness in the blade. Great video again Joe what ever you do I hope you will succeed the next time 🎉:)
ok thanks u very much!
Good looking blade 👍🏻I do think the steel choice is the problem although it did perform well until the brick. Joe if you want to stay with stainless steel that is tough what about
AEB-L Steel or 14C28N steel. They are two of the toughest stainless steels you can get. Great video as always 👍🏻👍🏻take care
i will release part 2 soon!
Looks nice, I would raise the height of the saber grind to allow for better cutting and less weight.
ok cool!
First prototype, first test and already better than 95% of whatever is out there.
Perfect it will be the name of the finish product!!! :)
A simpler, carbon steel would have done better!!!
thanks!
Well back to the design a better knife Joe i still believe in it. And you know el Brico is a champ! Maybe some kind of rubber handle i don't think you can break that?
good idea with the rubber, but i am a fan of G10!
@@joexThere is Suretouch Ultrex, G-10 laminated with rubber...
Oh My God.. it didnt even make it to the Iron Rod!
I know it made Joe X feel sick.. when that blade broke on the brick.. and almost hit him in the dick!
The knife did not get a passing grade when it was made.. so Joe X took his shotgun and shot the broken blade in the shade like it was a police raid.
Marlboro.
