The warmth of a people how they cared for one another and what they endured, these things are much more than gold. Given the eyes to see and the minds to understand we would have our paradise before death.

The Nharo Bushmen here are NOT smoking weed as one person suggests.. This community doesn't allow drugs or alcohol. They are smoking loose tobacco.

Although many tribes from Africa to Southeast Asia do indeed smoke cannabis, including various Bushmen tribes, and have for thousands of years. Most of the tobacco consumed throughout history has been in the Americas. Yet the stereotype of the Native American "Indian" smoking weed still persists, the traditions of India and America confused by industrialism and globalism.

And tobacco is technically a drug. Nicotine is considered a psychoactive substance, as are the monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) found in tobacco. The MAOI harmala in South American Ayahuasca also allows the body to absorb the hallucinogenic DMT. Many of the more dangerous antidepressants are MAOIs, and they increase addiction to many substances, including nicotine.
Again, both of which are found in tobacco. MAOIs can also react with tryptamines like L-tryptophan in dairy products, affecting the body in a way similar to the DMT in Ayahuasca, possibly leading to dangerous serotonin syndrome. Symptoms may include fast heart rate, hallucinations, high body temperature, and seizures. Cannabis, on the other hand, kills cancer cells and prevents seizures.
These people have a beautiful ancient culture. I respect these tribes, because all humans came up out of Africa. Now what are these people trying to prove by banning weed, an entheogen and medicinal herb they've used safely for thousands of years, but allowing tobacco, one of the leading causes of lung and oral cancers? Is it at least homegrown tobacco, or bought in a plastic bag from the store?

@@kaileggitt9249 Brilliant insight. Its important to note that the idea of cannabis as a drug is not one the San necessarily share. Thank you!!

bushman only smoke weed, the word for weed in the xhosa language is Icuba-labatwa, which means Bushmens' Tobacco.

It COULD be other plants. I'm an ethnobotanist, and I can think of several other psychoactive herbs that grow in the region. But yeah it is probably weed. Or I don't know, maybe this one Bushmen tribe decided to ban a traditional plant and switch to tobacco, although I highly doubt it. Maybe the person who posted this video is one of those "all drugs are bad except cigarettes" type.

It isn't weed. It is tobacco. I was there and know this community intimately. If it was marijuana I would say so.

Way to be brave, deleting comments instead of replying. Although I am genuinely curious: What species of tobacco was it? I'm well aware that there are Nicotiana species all around the world, but the majority of modern smoking tobacco is the species Nicotiana Tabacum. From America.
