Also remember the neopet economy being really harsh. It was tough to make substantial money from the games and my pet lived off the giant lasagna because while we couldn't afford to buy food, we weren't poor enough to go to the soup kitchen either. Anyone else have this childhood problem?
Yep, it was giant omelette, giant lasagna, then jelly from the hidden jelly world every time I logged on. Then play the games I knew the best turn earn a little bit of coin which was straight to the giving tree trying to snag anything I possible could for half an hour (usually ended up with a bunch of rock poo, maybe some food or a shirt, and occasionally one actually useful item.) Once I actually got a paint brush from the giving tree, a candy paintbrush, I remember clearly because I cried that day, ALLOT, it was the most heartfelt moment I had ever experienced in Neopets.
My lifelong dream in neopets was to get enough money to purchase brushes for my neopets. I wanted a starry one for my gelert and a baby one for my eeyrie (and I think I was trying to collect the map pieces to keep changing my chomby from time to time? I don't remember) I remember being inactive all year but go on a freak-out bender every july. It's the altador cup.
Yes! Even though I was actually quite good at many of the games I was never able to eek out enough money to actually do any of the fun customization stuff. Eventually I gave up trying to interact with my pets in favor of just playing the flash games I considered most fun
If you had enough time and skill, there were a number of sites that showed how to get "100K" NP every day. Even with only an hour or so, by just playing the right flash games, you could easily get 20-50K pretty easily.

Holy shit, the nostalgia is strong in this video. God the memories, neopets was my life back in the day and I still have several plushies from it. What shocked me the most in this video, however, was realizing how much neopets actually taught me about economy. Hell at the age of 9 I was already dealing with inflation, handling bank accounts and interest, managing auctions, sales and carefully planning my expenses and income in order to make sure all my neopets would be happy for a week(I had dial-up internet and could only access it during weekends, damn the memories). God if I remember well Neopets even had an active stock market and taught me the basics of market demand... this is insane. It shows how well made the NP system was in that game. I really wish more games and even schools would teach kids about economy this much.
i remember abusing the heck of the Hangman like minigames, it only has few selection of answers and can easily raises your Neopets' Int stat. Unfortunately the mods/admins caught up to what we are doing and issuing updates which limits the number session of hangman minigames can be played within an hour.
I was homeschooled, and my parents let us play during school hours because it did teach us about the economy. The "Neopets" themselves were not the interesting part of the game, making money and dealing with the virtual economy was.

I remember I was always obsessed with getting limited edition pets and painting them. I remember having a lost desert Cybunny, a pirate lutari and chomby, and faerie Ruki.
Before Viacom bought and sucked it dry there was some weird and dark shit on the site before Viacom got rid of most of it to make it more kid friendly. There was a whole murder mystery storyline where staff members were killed off rather gruesomely until only one was left.
That murder mystery thing was something that I was so interested in. It was so dark. It really influenced my writing as a youngin' who was getting into novel format writing.

Me and my best friend met her on a Warrior cats guild. We lost touch in late middle through high school. My best friend went back on in our first year of college. There's a surprisingly active community early 20 year olds. Anyways she told them were we went to college. And it turned out, that's where they lived. Now we hang out irl

Except it is changing, it's just that these changes are so that they can cram ads and microtransactions rather than actually improving the site. The site is left in such disarray that it's disgusting. There are events that are completely abandoned, broken links, inconsistent quality across the entire game's world. But hey, they have no shame in telling you about their new brand deal with Kellogs!

Lets see, I started playing Neopets in 2000.......Its 18 years later and I'm a 26 year old adult still playing it. I have the McDonalds toys, the plush dolls, two of the handheld game, a hundred cards, a couple of the magazines, some old shirts, a bag, the Darkest Faerie for the PS2........I believe the only reason I still play log on to the site is the nostalgic value. But I can tell you the moment Neopets really went to shit and that was when the original creators sold it to a big company (I think It was when they sold to Viacom?) But yeah, it just went downhill from there. Unfortunately most of neopets nowadays focuses on making "neocash" clothing items for the pets because they just want your money. (I am ashamed to admit I pay a $60 yearly membership alone). So ever since it became a money-grubbing corporation nothing really cool and new is coming out. I remember when they did really fun plots and stuff like Meridell, Kwark Island, Darigan, etc. Now its.....pretty dead. Again I'm still sticking with it because of the nostalgia it has for me. (Also the fact I've sunken a couple hundred dollars into this stupid site)
Neopets charm is the FACT that it's old and outdated, if it were updated it wouldn't be the same. As someone who played old neopets, I would be really sad if it were "updated", sure maybe they could add some user friendliness to the website, but honestly the oldschool website is part of the fun imo.
I agree with you! I went back a couple years ago, and I was surprised to see it hadn't updated, but I thought it was charming! It was nostalgic at first, but then it was fun, because there aren't a lot of websites like this around anymore. I think the problem is though, that Neopets being old only appeals to older people who were using the internet when everything still looked like this. Younger kids may find it more difficult to get into Neopets, because they're used to much more modern games. That being said, I'll be sad if it ever updates.
Neopets is evidence that an experience cannot survive on nostalgia alone. I actually loved Neopets when I was a kid and every 2-4 years I've poked my head back in just out of curiosity, but the fact is that it is aged and dying. Still bringing in enough ad revenue to be worth continuing but it's in a slow, sad decline into being turned off forever. This is why it needs an update. Maybe the charm for most people comes from nostalgia and the rustic feel to it and I certainly understand that myself, but the truth is that nobody in their right mind would stumble upon Neopets today, for the first time, and fall in love with it like we did when we were young. It looks like shit, you need to reload the web browser every time you do anything and it ALL runs on flash, which is discontinued. It is sad that it hasn't been updated and improved upon. It was a big deal in the early 2000s and I would have been way too happy if it actually kept up to date and turned into a site that my kids would still want to play one day, but that's not what's going to happen. It's just going to slowly die, and that sucks
The thing that has, and will continue to keep the site afloat is the ability to buy Neocash which is then exchanged for more exclusive clothing to customize your neopet with. A very active element to the website is the ability to trade your pets with other users. People actively strive to obtain "rare pets" with the best name possible (Real names, real words, correctly punctuated names without numbers). This aspect of finding the perfect neopet with the best paint possible/name and thereafter customizing it and flaunting it in various contest and in the forum is really one of the only things that keeps 100k users coming back daily. Doesn't hurt that sending real money is pretty intricate to that process, huh? They have minimal staff, after the last buyout they fired nearly all the office workers. Keeping the staff flow low, never updating anything other than story lines/items/clothing and making sure that they continue to tempt people out of their money is why they're brilliant. The users that are on neopets are return users, most people have accounts that are over 6+ years old and will continue to come back daily and support the website for the sake of getting their dream pets with little to no effort on their part as a company.
Personally, I actually like that there isn’t a central hub. It really gives this feeling of actually having to explore this world, and getting to discover secrets
bro theres too much to update. if u look at all the different types of things they have, the variety of games; not to mention- theres a ton of games that arent flash they're just pure website code- to re-write that all for todays standards (like #1 making it never refresh browser) would be nearly impossible, and not worth it, considering flash games arent as big of a phenomenon. neopets is just like a really old building. u'd just have to completely destroy it and start over, but its best to just look at it from time to time to see what it was. or demolish it idc.

Back when it was created, it was a revelation, and the original creators, Adam and Donna, had created one of the first virtual pets, and back then they were modern and new. Today, artists and creators feel like they have to live above the caliber, and create art and content thats better, or at least at the same level, as the ones before.
I have a starry Meerca. I named him Bobbers after a kitten I had as a kid that died of feline leukemia. So he's like, a replacement for that. Never dies! :3
As I know I'm an Aspie now, it kind of explains why for me, real and virtual pets as a kid were sort of a replacement for real friends... and I made myself sad now.
instead of seeing it come to mobile, I'd like to seem them try again with games similar to The Darkest Faerie, or perhaps a Pokemon-esque RPG, or something like Digimon's Cyber Sleuth. Something with depth to it, putting it on the phone would just lead to a cheap F2P game with micro transactions.
I can't believe this still exists. Can you still build them houses? I remember that being a total racket. It was like 25,000 neopoints for the land and 10,000 a room. The fish tank tapping game that started on Neopets actually ending up selling for millions and is a huge app now.
@@OrangeOzarka They actually implemented a second version of NeoHomes- you could still access the original top-down version, but you could/can additionally make a new version with fancier graphics for which they implemented a house spotlight and rating system. The top-down classic version is the one with the expensive rooms, because the newer version I believe limits you to only one interior room plus an outdoor space around it- you could use items to creatively make "walls" but couldn't buy an extension to your house or plot, unless they added that after I stopped playing. Neopets started and did a lot of great things. The game is mainly focused on neopoints, and while this doesnt seem like a good idea, it is. It taught young people how their work can gain them currency, and they can store that currency and other fancy stuff that goes on with an economy. It also brought a little difference on how websites looked and acted, and it gave way for the start of virtual pets and web games. While neopets doesnt seem likes its gone a long way, it was ahead of its time back then. Even with its sort of lousy updates nowadays, with not much being changed, it shows something great from our past.

When I was a kid, I remember Webkinz were expensive! Like $20! Recently though, I saw a whole bin of them at Family Dollar for $1 each. I bought a lemur just for the hell of it. It wouldn't let me name it Zoboomafoo because that was "inappropriate." After I gave it a generic name, the sprite for it literally did not work. It's entire sprite sheet would move around the screen instead of being animated. The site has also hardly changed. I don't think they're looking after it too much anymore. At least I got a cute lemur plush out of it.
I remember participating in one of the year's Poogle day. It was a school day, and even though I never wake up early, I woke up at 5:30 in the morning just so I could get my hands on one before they ran out. One of my favorite memories from playing Neopets

I used to play on Neopets all the time, to the point where I went on it every single day after school. I didn't think it was still around, especially in an era where smartphones are integrated into almost every aspect of life. One thing I always liked about Neopets was how the stories were focused more on the creatures themselves rather than on human "trainer" characters. It's a similar kind of appeal that the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games had that made them distinct from the main series Pokemon titles in which they were more focused on the creatures rather than on human characters. Though I will admit, the site is indeed outdated, and looking at how it appears in the video, it looks exactly the same as I last visited it back in 2009-2010 or so, all while RUclips has changed it's layout at least 6 or 7 times within that time (RUclips is really bad at not being able to make up it's mind).

My middle school student assistant (I have a disability and had trouble understanding things in class and caused stress and anxiety) put my birthday in wrong and I can’t remember what date she put it in (I remember turning 13 in neopets like almost a week early and I almost got banned in the chat room because of me being under the age of 13 even though my birthday was put in incorrectly)! Now I can’t access my account because it requires her email address and birthdate to recover my account!
As I just found out, even if you can resurrect your early highschool hotmail address, get your username and reset your password, they're gonna then ask you for the fake birthdate you put in when you registered 17 years ago. Good luck with that.

neopets deleted my account, it doesn't exist now, it wasn't a newbie account ether 2000-06 played it but all i did was stop playing in 2006. i remember them having an ugly policy of deleting unused accounts for space
I got back an account this year that I made back in 2007. They get frozen, but you can un-freeze the account if you remember some details and contact support. (: I didn't have any real-money currency or painted pets either. Only thing to watch out for is if you had very valuable things or pets; hackers often get those kinds of accounts and sell the goods on them for real money. (Yeah... it's popular enough for that kind of stuff to happen!) In that case, the accounts can sometimes be empty or even frozen because of suspicious activity.
I loved Neopets. Recently i tried to get into my old Account. It is still there but i cannot remember my Password and the Mail-Server i used back then is not around anymore :P

Cameron Rowan Really? I don't know, then. Maybe they changed how they do things. Their customer service is complete garbage anyway. Some people will get helped immediately while others will not get anything done after two years. I think I remember hearing stories about how some people had a couple months to get something fixed, but they didn't even get their first reply from staff for a month and a half. Their accounts ended up being terminated because they didn't solve the issue in time. It's a shitty website with stuff like that all the time, I wouldn't recommend getting into it. You can invest hours of work into your account for years and be banned for LITERALLY no reason and nothing you can do about it.
It’s completely counterintuitive but on Reddit there have been a few success stories. You need to make a new account, go to the forums and submit a ticket, and wait in line forever.
I remember looking for really exclusive paints, jellos, and omelettes for collection sake, and using fairies to make my pets stronger to fight in the arena. And pretty actively playing key quest.
Nearly everyone I know who played neopets with any kind of regularity growing up has gotten back into it in adulthood. The sad truth, though, is that neopets is the one killing itself. Not by failing to update to modern technology - I've never met anyone still playing who was genuinely done with the browser-style gameplay. But neopets has a habit of banning users for no reason, and its support is pretty much nonexistent. So it's literally just kicking players off the site at random. I honestly don't think they have any interest in maintaining it at this point.
Yep...happened to me twice. It tends to happen when you haven't played in a few months. No notification or anything, just next time you try to log, in, it says your account has been frozen. In my case, both times it said it was for 'suspicious activity' and was 'frozen for my protection' - essentially they were saying, "we don't think YOU did anything, but some random activity on your account looked out of place so we froze you." Submitted tickets both times, never heard back on either of them, and from everything I've read if you ever submit a duplicate ticket - even after months of waiting - they'll instantly close all of your cases and ignore you, possibly saying something rude in the process. The second time I was banned it happened was on my childhood account of 15 years, and I decided I was done with neopets for good.
Quite. It's Not The SITE That Needs To Be Updated,It's The RULES. Their Rules Are Designed For Little Kids,But A HUGE Majority Of Users Are ADULTS. What They Need To Do Is Set Up A Form Or Something That Is 18+. Not So That Sexy Things Can Happen,But So You Can Say A Word And It Not Be Blocked Out Just Because There Is A "Bad" Word IN The Word. We Grown Up Neopians Need Our Own Table To Sit At And Talk About Grown Up Things,Rather Then Be Bound By The Absurd Rules Of The Kid's Table. Sadly Neopets Has't Clued In On That.
Yes! I would love being able to say circumstance, skill, crack, uncle, grape, basement, in conversations and stories -.- Their rules need some serious revamping. (And yet, I still play regardless xD)
Just make sure you keep a list of information on your account, like your neofriends, inventory, recent trades, etc. so that you can at least have a glimmer of hope of recovering your account if they ever do ban you for no reason owo;
God the nostalgia is strong with this one. But going back is terrible. I loved going to Limited Too just to see all their Neopets stuff. Couldn't afford anything from there, but just looking at it was good enough.

I do have a nostalgic connection to darkest faerie and I still love it to this day, even it if wasn't the best game ever it was different and unique and honestly I wish they'd made another one like it to continue on the world
I still log into my neopet account every other week to make sure they don't delete it XD I've been playing since 1999 back before conversion. After conversion I sort of lost interest in the site. /sigh OH! I also learned to do HTML coding through neopets making my petpages the most hardcore things ever. I remember making petpage applications to adopt Krawks and Draiks. That was some hardcore shit!

I loved the Darkest Faerie. I bought the game before I had a PS2. xD My main gripe was that once you make it to the castle in the sky, you can never leave. You can only fight the boss infinitely, so you must complete everything before then if you wanted to 100%. Maybe it never bothered me because I knew it wasn't a game by a studio that regularly made 3D video games. I thought it was impressive for a Neopets game, and it made the world feel more alive to me. At least until Meridell got taken over by the dark magic.
Nice! If it's not your thing, there are definitely better games to suffer through. But it definitely helped liven up the Neopets world for me, personally, and it was cool to interact with key characters from the web version of Neopets.
Agreed, I thought it was massively impressive and such a big risk- too bad it didn't pay off. My biggest issue (especially once everything turned dark) was that backtracking through an area (which you had to do often for side quests) always caused the enemies to respawn ;-; But I really loved the game overall.

A lesbie friend in high school got me to check out the site back in 2004, and for a bit I was hooked. But the lack of pet interaction and weak battle system made me feel it was a worse version of Pokemon that replaced fun with limited playtime Flash games, so after a few months I found something better to do with the free period between classes. I vaguely remember something about omelettes being a thing? Damn man, I haven't even thought about Neopets in over a decade.
I still remember my old account of that time... but It's just Impossible to log In with It, despite the account still existing... All I wanted to do was play Hannah In the Ice Caverns... I used to love everything about that game.

Neopets from my childhood perspective, was several waves of collectable, plush, surprisingly high quality (that's not just nostalgia talking, I still have them and they really hold up) happy meal toys from McDonalds, and a vaguely associated website. I had no idea any of this other stuff existed

Cinnamongamer Man, i remember at one point i was such a part of the community that i was spending my mass amounts of neopoints on paintbrushes and chia pops and giving them away in the forums so that everybody could have cute painted neopets if they didnt have the same amount of time to invest as me, or didnt have the money like me... And then for no reason whatsoever, minus them telling me that i was 'harassing many players' they just completely banned my account. They would not rectify it, even though i had amounts of people that i talked to off the site willing to vouch for me, but it didnt matter.... I lost all faith in them at that point... I invested SOO fucking much time, literally 2 years, while i was in school id come home and play when not doing homework, and over the summer i played nonstop. 2 FUCKING YEARS helping other members, playing games, making myself known as a community leader, all for fucking naught.
I heard if you actually give the site money (like premium account or buy neocash), you can get away with almost anything. Anyway I quit when I heard about the bullshit you guys have described.
When I was a kid, I wanted to change my password. I didn't know how to do it, so I typed into the search "passwords." Instantly banned. As if I'm gonna hack people's accounts by searching.
I think my account got hacked and the customer service never answered back, so l33tunderdog is gone forever =( I bought the PS2 game, Neopets: The Darkest Faerie but I didn't get around to beating it.
Being old doesn't mean the game is bad. I still play Everquest. I even see that the Flash browser game, Adventure Quest is still around and probably making money too.
psovegeta Battleon games has made several new games since then- they still have AQ and Mechquest and stuff, but they also now have an MMO called "Adventure Quest Worlds" of which is suprisingly good, and several other RPGs on the site.
Actually, artix entertainment has just recently moved into a new 3d-mmo on the level of world of warcraft. Its still in its early stages, but its doing really well. Along with the fact that all of their other games (except maybe that failed AQ expansion warpforce) are still going very strong.

Yep, it was giant omelette, giant lasagna, then jelly from the hidden jelly world every time I logged on. Then play the games I knew the best turn earn a little bit of coin which was straight to the giving tree trying to snag anything I possible could for half an hour (usually ended up with a bunch of rock poo, maybe some food or a shirt, and occasionally one actually useful item.)
Once I actually got a paint brush from the giving tree, a candy paintbrush, I remember clearly because I cried that day, ALLOT, it was the most heartfelt moment I had ever experienced in Neopets.
My lifelong dream in neopets was to get enough money to purchase brushes for my neopets. I wanted a starry one for my gelert and a baby one for my eeyrie (and I think I was trying to collect the map pieces to keep changing my chomby from time to time? I don't remember)

If you had enough time and skill, there were a number of sites that showed how to get "100K" NP every day. Even with only an hour or so, by just playing the right flash games, you could easily get 20-50K pretty easily.

Holy shit, the nostalgia is strong in this video. God the memories, neopets was my life back in the day and I still have several plushies from it. What shocked me the most in this video, however, was realizing how much neopets actually taught me about economy. Hell at the age of 9 I was already dealing with inflation, handling bank accounts and interest, managing auctions, sales and carefully planning my expenses and income in order to make sure all my neopets would be happy for a week(I had dial-up internet and could only access it during weekends, damn the memories). God if I remember well Neopets even had an active stock market and taught me the basics of market demand... this is insane. It shows how well made the NP system was in that game. I really wish more games and even schools would teach kids about economy this much.

i remember abusing the heck of the Hangman like minigames, it only has few selection of answers and can easily raises your Neopets' Int stat.
Unfortunately the mods/admins caught up to what we are doing and issuing updates which limits the number session of hangman minigames can be played within an hour.
I was homeschooled, and my parents let us play during school hours because it did teach us about the economy. The "Neopets" themselves were not the interesting part of the game, making money and dealing with the virtual economy was.

Before Viacom bought and sucked it dry there was some weird and dark shit on the site before Viacom got rid of most of it to make it more kid friendly. There was a whole murder mystery storyline where staff members were killed off rather gruesomely until only one was left.
That murder mystery thing was something that I was so interested in. It was so dark. It really influenced my writing as a youngin' who was getting into novel format writing.

Lets see, I started playing Neopets in 2000.......Its 18 years later and I'm a 26 year old adult still playing it. I have the McDonalds toys, the plush dolls, two of the handheld game, a hundred cards, a couple of the magazines, some old shirts, a bag, the Darkest Faerie for the PS2........I believe the only reason I still play log on to the site is the nostalgic value. But I can tell you the moment Neopets really went to shit and that was when the original creators sold it to a big company (I think It was when they sold to Viacom?) But yeah, it just went downhill from there. Unfortunately most of neopets nowadays focuses on making "neocash" clothing items for the pets because they just want your money. (I am ashamed to admit I pay a $60 yearly membership alone). So ever since it became a money-grubbing corporation nothing really cool and new is coming out. I remember when they did really fun plots and stuff like Meridell, Kwark Island, Darigan, etc. Now its.....pretty dead. Again I'm still sticking with it because of the nostalgia it has for me. (Also the fact I've sunken a couple hundred dollars into this stupid site)

Neopets charm is the FACT that it's old and outdated, if it were updated it wouldn't be the same. As someone who played old neopets, I would be really sad if it were "updated", sure maybe they could add some user friendliness to the website, but honestly the oldschool website is part of the fun imo.
I agree with you! I went back a couple years ago, and I was surprised to see it hadn't updated, but I thought it was charming! It was nostalgic at first, but then it was fun, because there aren't a lot of websites like this around anymore. I think the problem is though, that Neopets being old only appeals to older people who were using the internet when everything still looked like this. Younger kids may find it more difficult to get into Neopets, because they're used to much more modern games. That being said, I'll be sad if it ever updates.

Neopets is evidence that an experience cannot survive on nostalgia alone. I actually loved Neopets when I was a kid and every 2-4 years I've poked my head back in just out of curiosity, but the fact is that it is aged and dying. Still bringing in enough ad revenue to be worth continuing but it's in a slow, sad decline into being turned off forever.
This is why it needs an update. Maybe the charm for most people comes from nostalgia and the rustic feel to it and I certainly understand that myself, but the truth is that nobody in their right mind would stumble upon Neopets today, for the first time, and fall in love with it like we did when we were young. It looks like shit, you need to reload the web browser every time you do anything and it ALL runs on flash, which is discontinued.
It is sad that it hasn't been updated and improved upon. It was a big deal in the early 2000s and I would have been way too happy if it actually kept up to date and turned into a site that my kids would still want to play one day, but that's not what's going to happen. The thing that has, and will continue to keep the site afloat is the ability to buy Neocash which is then exchanged for more exclusive clothing to customize your neopet with. A very active element to the website is the ability to trade your pets with other users. People actively strive to obtain "rare pets" with the best name possible (Real names, real words, correctly punctuated names without numbers). This aspect of finding the perfect neopet with the best paint possible/name and thereafter customizing it and flaunting it in various contest and in the forum is really one of the only things that keeps 100k users coming back daily. Doesn't hurt that sending real money is pretty intricate to that process, huh?
They have minimal staff, after the last buyout they fired nearly all the office workers. Keeping the staff flow low, never updating anything other than story lines/items/clothing and making sure that they continue to tempt people out of their money is why they're brilliant. The users that are on neopets are return users, most people have accounts that are over 6+ years old and will continue to come back daily and support the website for the sake of getting their dream pets with little to no effort on their part as a company.

bro theres too much to update. if u look at all the different types of things they have, the variety of games; not to mention- theres a ton of games that arent flash they're just pure website code- to re-write that all for todays standards (like #1 making it never refresh browser) would be nearly impossible, and not worth it, considering flash games arent as big of a phenomenon. neopets is just like a really old building. u'd just have to completely destroy it and start over, but its best to just look at it from time to time to see what it was. or demolish it idc.

Back when it was created, it was a revelation, and the original creators, Adam and Donna, had created one of the first virtual pets, and back then they were modern and new. Today, artists and creators feel like they have to live above the caliber, and create art and content thats better, or at least at the same level, as the ones before.

@@OrangeOzarka They actually implemented a second version of NeoHomes- you could still access the original top-down version, but you could/can additionally make a new version with fancier graphics for which they implemented a house spotlight and rating system. The top-down classic version is the one with the expensive rooms, because the newer version I believe limits you to only one interior room plus an outdoor space around it- you could use items to creatively make "walls" but couldn't buy an extension to your house or plot, unless they added that after I stopped playing.

I was not a smart child.
Neopets started and did a lot of great things. The game is mainly focused on neopoints, and while this doesnt seem like a good idea, it is. It taught young people how their work can gain them currency, and they can store that currency and other fancy stuff that goes on with an economy. It also brought a little difference on how websites looked and acted, and it gave way for the start of virtual pets and web games. While neopets doesnt seem likes its gone a long way, it was ahead of its time back then. Even with its sort of lousy updates nowadays, with not much being changed, it shows something great from our past.

When I was a kid, I remember Webkinz were expensive! Like $20! Recently though, I saw a whole bin of them at Family Dollar for $1 each. I bought a lemur just for the hell of it. It wouldn't let me name it Zoboomafoo because that was "inappropriate." After I gave it a generic name, the sprite for it literally did not work. It's entire sprite sheet would move around the screen instead of being animated. The site has also hardly changed. I don't think they're looking after it too much anymore. At least I got a cute lemur plush out of it.

I used to play on Neopets all the time, to the point where I went on it every single day after school. I didn't think it was still around, especially in an era where smartphones are integrated into almost every aspect of life.
One thing I always liked about Neopets was how the stories were focused more on the creatures themselves rather than on human "trainer" characters. It's a similar kind of appeal that the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games had that made them distinct from the main series Pokemon titles in which they were more focused on the creatures rather than on human characters.
Though I will admit, the site is indeed outdated, and looking at how it appears in the video, it looks exactly the same as I last visited it back in 2009-2010 or so, all while RUclips has changed it's layout at least 6 or 7 times within that time (RUclips is really bad at not being able to make up it's mind).

neopets deleted my account, it doesn't exist now, it wasn't a newbie account ether 2000-06 played it but all i did was stop playing in 2006.

I got back an account this year that I made back in 2007. They get frozen, but you can un-freeze the account if you remember some details and contact support. (: I didn't have any real-money currency or painted pets either.
Only thing to watch out for is if you had very valuable things or pets; hackers often get those kinds of accounts and sell the goods on them for real money. (Yeah... it's popular enough for that kind of stuff to happen!) In that case, the accounts can sometimes be empty or even frozen because of suspicious activity.

If you can prove the account is yours (like stuff in your safety deposit box) you can still get in by contacting support. I tried a while back but I couldn't remember what was in my SDB.

Really? I don't know, then. Maybe they changed how they do things. Their customer service is complete garbage anyway. Some people will get helped immediately while others will not get anything done after two years. I think I remember hearing stories about how some people had a couple months to get something fixed, but they didn't even get their first reply from staff for a month and a half. Their accounts ended up being terminated because they didn't solve the issue in time. It's a shitty website with stuff like that all the time, I wouldn't recommend getting into it. You can invest hours of work into your account for years and be banned for LITERALLY no reason and nothing you can do about it.
It’s completely counterintuitive but on Reddit there have been a few success stories. You need to make a new account, go to the forums and submit a ticket, and wait in line forever.

I remember looking for really exclusive paints, jellos, and omelettes for collection sake, and using fairies to make my pets stronger to fight in the arena. And pretty actively playing key quest.
Nearly everyone I know who played neopets with any kind of regularity growing up has gotten back into it in adulthood. The sad truth, though, is that neopets is the one killing itself. Not by failing to update to modern technology - I've never met anyone still playing who was genuinely done with the browser-style gameplay. But neopets has a habit of banning users for no reason, and its support is pretty much nonexistent. So it's literally just kicking players off the site at random. I honestly don't think they have any interest in maintaining it at this point.

Yep...happened to me twice. It tends to happen when you haven't played in a few months. No notification or anything, just next time you try to log, in, it says your account has been frozen. In my case, both times it said it was for 'suspicious activity' and was 'frozen for my protection' - essentially they were saying, "we don't think YOU did anything, but some random activity on your account looked out of place so we froze you." Submitted tickets both times, never heard back on either of them, and from everything I've read if you ever submit a duplicate ticket - even after months of waiting - they'll instantly close all of your cases and ignore you, possibly saying something rude in the process. The second time I was banned it happened was on my childhood account of 15 years, and I decided I was done with neopets for good.
Quite. It's Not The SITE That Needs To Be Updated,It's The RULES. Their Rules Are Designed For Little Kids,But A HUGE Majority Of Users Are ADULTS. What They Need To Do Is Set Up A Form Or Something That Is 18+. Not So That Sexy Things Can Happen,But So You Can Say A Word And It Not Be Blocked Out Just Because There Is A "Bad" Word IN The Word. We Grown Up Neopians Need Our Own Table To Sit At And Talk About Grown Up Things,Rather Then Be Bound By The Absurd Rules Of The Kid's Table. Sadly Neopets Has't Clued In On That.
Yes! I would love being able to say circumstance, skill, crack, uncle, grape, basement, in conversations and stories -.- Their rules need some serious revamping. (And yet, I still play regardless xD)
Just make sure you keep a list of information on your account, like your neofriends, inventory, recent trades, etc. so that you can at least have a glimmer of hope of recovering your account if they ever do ban you for no reason owo;
God the nostalgia is strong with this one. But going back is terrible.
I loved going to Limited Too just to see all their Neopets stuff. Couldn't afford anything from there, but just looking at it was good enough.

I still log into my neopet account every other week to make sure they don't delete it XD I've been playing since 1999 back before conversion. After conversion I sort of lost interest in the site. /sigh OH! I also learned to do HTML coding through neopets making my petpages the most hardcore things ever. I remember making petpage applications to adopt Krawks and Draiks. That was some hardcore shit!

I loved the Darkest Faerie. I bought the game before I had a PS2. xD My main gripe was that once you make it to the castle in the sky, you can never leave. You can only fight the boss infinitely, so you must complete everything before then if you wanted to 100%. Maybe it never bothered me because I knew it wasn't a game by a studio that regularly made 3D video games. I thought it was impressive for a Neopets game, and it made the world feel more alive to me. At least until Meridell got taken over by the dark magic.
I got my capture card fixed! I might do a longer review of just the Neopets games
Nice! If it's not your thing, there are definitely better games to suffer through. But it definitely helped liven up the Neopets world for me, personally, and it was cool to interact with key characters from the web version of Neopets.
Agreed, I thought it was massively impressive and such a big risk- too bad it didn't pay off. My biggest issue (especially once everything turned dark) was that backtracking through an area (which you had to do often for side quests) always caused the enemies to respawn ;-; But I really loved the game overall.
I remember when I had a "mall" and convinced other users to send me hordes of items to add to my "mall" so they could be "vendors" to which they'll get profit from. Lmfao

Cinnamongamer Man, i remember at one point i was such a part of the community that i was spending my mass amounts of neopoints on paintbrushes and chia pops and giving them away in the forums so that everybody could have cute painted neopets if they didnt have the same amount of time to invest as me, or didnt have the money like me... And then for no reason whatsoever, minus them telling me that i was 'harassing many players' they just completely banned my account. They would not rectify it, even though i had amounts of people that i talked to off the site willing to vouch for me, but it didnt matter.... I lost all faith in them at that point... I invested SOO fucking much time, literally 2 years, while i was in school id come home and play when not doing homework, and over the summer i played nonstop. 2 FUCKING YEARS helping other members, playing games, making myself known as a community leader, all for fucking naught.
I heard if you actually give the site money (like premium account or buy neocash), you can get away with almost anything. Anyway I quit when I heard about the bullshit you guys have described.
When I was a kid, I wanted to change my password. I didn't know how to do it, so I typed into the search "passwords." Instantly banned. As if I'm gonna hack people's accounts by searching.

I bought the PS2 game, Neopets: The Darkest Faerie but I didn't get around to beating it.
Being old doesn't mean the game is bad. I still play Everquest. I even see that the Flash browser game, Adventure Quest is still around and probably making money too.
psovegeta Battleon games has made several new games since then- they still have AQ and Mechquest and stuff, but they also now have an MMO called "Adventure Quest Worlds" of which is suprisingly good, and several other RPGs on the site.
Actually, artix entertainment has just recently moved into a new 3d-mmo on the level of world of warcraft. Its still in its early stages, but its doing really well. Along with the fact that all of their other games (except maybe that failed AQ expansion warpforce) are still going very strong.
