Just a pro tip from a player, your pet sleeping doesn't stop you from playing the game at all, you can still do everything you could before as if they were awake; whether they are or not doesn't make a difference, it just halts their occasional requests and it bugs out the energy meter and stops it from going down. And considering the energy and hunger meters deplete like crazy if you do ANYTHING, it's best to _keep_ your pet in bed, as well. Either that or they look depressed the entire time. The older stat system was much more manageable since they only depleted periodically.
Webkinz didn’t have all these pay to play and premium shit back in the day, and I don’t entirely blame them for implementing them. I’m sure it keeps them from going under. But, as one of those kids who had over 30 ‘Kinz as a kid, I’m both proud and ashamed to say that I did start paying for the premium when I logged back on as an adult. 😅
Sounds my like experience with neopets. I went on a neopets binge about once a yesr after becoming an adult™️, and especially the two weeks after operating out all 4 wisdoom teeth were filled with neopets. Good times.

Back in my day the Deluxe option wasn't really that bad! In my opinion it was mostly out of site for normal players and legit felt like a really cool exclusive club you can join at any time for a pretty penny. But now it feels like a solid 1/3 of Webkinz is exclusively for deluxe and feels like the site goes out of its way to point it out to you :c
BTW I got 45 webkinz and growing lol, I friggin loved the plushies as a kid and died when I learned the online site

The forced downtime is definitely new. I played this game for hours on end as I kid and I never remember having to stop playing because my pets were sleeping.

Back in the early years, the "sleep" meter was rather a "Health" meter. You filled it with vitamins, exercise items in the room, and taking it to Dr. Quack. They re-vamped the game for the 10th anniversary ("Webkinz X" update), replacing the need for Heath and Dr. Quack with sleeping and "Family Score Points" where your pet asks you to do certain site activities for points.

I freaking LOVED these things when I was a kid. I was in early elementary school right during the boom. I had a bunch. They were expensive at the time so having a bunch was a big time deal. You have NO Idea how many little mean girls we had running around due to rich parents and "the biggest collection in the world."
My sister, my cousin, and I, all got separate one's for Christmas one year. It was great. I got a monkey and I remember naming him Coconut cause I thought oh he's brown and white like a coconut.
For what they were, they were WAY too expensive. That and Shining Starz/Stars[spelling?], if anyone remembers those.
I literally had 25-30. And I bought every single one with my allowance.

i remember before the whole "starter pet" thing where you had to get a webkinz stuffed animal before u could play at all, and before the estore and deluxe account exclusive things literally made it impossible to play unless you've bought both a webkinz and had a deluxe subscription and bought in-game money. i've seen the horrors of capitalism with my own eyes.
also the corona topaz was the only gem in the gem mining game that i never found (if you got them all youd get a crown, it was random chance, my brother had one), and i played that game literally every day from 4-8 years old so i'd like to consider that a prophecy about my disease resilience

I remember getting my very first Webkinz (it was a golden retriever) and it did come with a code but the code for whatever reason didn't work, i recall clearly that i was typing everything in properly it's just that the code for some reason didn't work
They were INCREDIBLY easy to steal and basically everyone did it back in the day. If you could push the pamphlet open enough to see the code you could write it down and steal the code without ever buying the stuffed animal, or you could just RIP the tag off when no one was looking and stuff them in your pants like a real little shoplifter. I didn’t do it because I was TERRIFIED of getting in trouble but I definitely wanted to. 😔

I remember being obsessed with Webkinz from 2007-2009, and I was one of those people who had over 50 pets. Also, I totally remember the Webkinz killer rumor. If I remember correctly, you could visit your friends’ houses, and my friends would always call me and tell me that one of my pets had died.

Ps. The googles was based on a platypus but it is Ganz own design, the google existed before Webkinz. you can find old plushies of it from before webkinz.

yeah thats pretty lame, u can even get it out of bedplus you can raise energy with other exercise things. a treadmill only costs 100 kinzcash and theres no limit and u can get right back to playin

that game style was quite popular in the early 2000's. other games that were pretty much exactly the same include toss the turtle on newgrounds and flight of the hamsters on the cartoon network site. i am curious to know which one actually was the very first, but maybe it really was the neopets version.
@@Namingway248 Before Toss the Turtle and Whack-a-Kass there was Nanaca†Crash, which is a parody spinoff game based on the visual novel Cross†Channel. It came out around 2004/2005. And there was a game called Kitten Cannon that came out some time before that, maybe 2000/2001 which seems, at least to my knowledge, to be the origin of launch/toss games.
Ummm...ACKTYUALLY It's Kass Basher now. It was changed shortly after Kass was defeated in the Champions of Meridell plot.

I was a sick kid and I had to have weekly treatments. For being “so brave” every week, my parents bought me a webkinz each treatment. This continued for 4+ years. I still have my stash of like 300+ webkinz. I had no idea at the time how much they were and how impoverished my family was but looking back, it makes me cry thinking my no matter how broke we were my parents ALWAYS got me my weekly webkinz. My favourite was a sheepdog I affectionately named Bozo.
WEBKINZ WAS MY CHILDHOOD MAN! One vacation back in the day I had a very limited budget for a souvenir I chose a Webkinz dog... Instead of something actually relating to the place we we're at... And I don't regret it he's a dog and his name is Harry and he's flipping adorable.
I went insane over webkinz when they first got big. I think it’s why I enjoy hoardin-collecting things now 15ish years later.

man, I remember webkinz so fondly. i was like maybe 7 or 8 when I got a calico cat, so very originally named Kitty. Kitty was my favorite, I was lucky enough to have the code still on her since I had found it in a garage sale one summer. I remember begging my mom for more so eventually I had a black cat named Clover and the "googles" named Ducky. I lost Kitty one summer at a camp sight never to be seen again but I still remember my stuffed animal so dearly, I later got the tiny version but it was never the same again..

Webkinz was my jam and Ill say it: membership was the start of it being ruined. It used to be full access with just the purchase of a plush, and then they slowly took away all the best stuff or put it behind a membership pay wall. Then they changed the map. For those wondering what the quality of the signature line was, as Billiam only mentioned them. They were much softer and added a better filling for a bit of sturdiness compared to the mainline. They didn't do much in the game beyond adding some inclusive items and boost your membership to deluxe. I have the black-footed ferret, and if you never looked at the paw. You would never figure it was a webkin.

I still have a bunch of my old webkinz from when they first came out. I didn't mind the weird fabric they used as it made them very different from other plushies I had at the time. Couldn't tell you how many I ended up with in the end, I had a lot.
