Barry is a close friend of mine, met in Orlando and let me say this is one of the most kind human beings I’ve ever met. Invited me to thanksgiving with his family and Christmas when I could go see mine. Barry’s a treasure on and off the field
Barry Larkin played his entire 19-year MLB career with the Cincinnati Reds. How many of the game's current day perennial all-stars are willing to show that kind of loyalty to a city, to an organization.
Joey Votto
Tony Gywnn, Cal Ripken Jr. All long careers in the same era that stayed put.
i don't see Acuña ever leaving the Braves as long as they pay him what he deserves
Juan Soto 😂
Barry was one of my favorite players when I was a kid even though I am from Texas!
Barry Larkin was solid. When the super crop of ss came around none of them played like Barry. It was like the league forgot him with all coverage for guys like Jeter and Nomar. Ozzie Smith and Cal R were great players but I would pick Barry to man ss over almost every ss to have played. Tough, solid glove, solid speed, longevity and enough power to keep you honest.
People tend to forget that Larkin played nearly his entire career at Riverfront stadium with that luxurious concrete style artificial turf..
Comparing Larkin to Boegarts: Boegarts is a terrible fielder, Larkin was SMOOOOOOOTH with the glove
I would say Barry's closest comparison would be Alan Trammell.
Would like to see guys do a segment on one of his teammates Eric Davis,Paul O'Neill or since you brought him up in the video, you can do one on Cal Ripken.
let's get Larkin on the show!
Kurt Stillwell played one season between the 20+ year career of Dave Concepcion and the 19 year career of Larkin. So SS was locked down by 2 players for a combined 40 years.
Clean all star player in a dirty era
How about Lou Whittaker? I don't understand why he isn't in the HOF. His WAR is 75.1 (7th all time for 2B), Rookie of the Year, 5x All-Star, 1984 World Series, 3x Gold Glove, 4x Silver Slugger. He's probably be in if he was a Yankee.
can you all do another round of natty or juiced?
with the following participants:
-Jeremy burnitz
-Jim Edmonds
-Richie Sexton
-Armando Gallaraga
-Jeff Bagwell
And then for the current players, a new section called “natty or addy”, in which you decide who is on Adderal versus who is doing it naturally with their own brain power
Dude get over youself. Your absolutely pathetic 😂😂😂
Dude off the the left keeps saying “it’s a different game.” The game is the same. Bases are still 90 feet, the mound is still 60.6 feet, and you still have to score more runs than the other team to win. The players have changed. The mindset of the scouts and those who evaluate talent has changed. The game has not. The biggest difference between then and now is back in the early days all the way through the 80’s, 90’s, and early 2000’s guys wanted to win. Organizations wanted to win. Now all these guys care about is their contracts and all the teams care about is revenue. Barry Larkin dominated in his day and you better believe he’d dominate today
I get your point but actually, the bases aren't still 90ft apart. When MLB increased the size of the bases in 2023 it shortened the base paths which has lead to the return of the steal as a true offensive weapon. It's only a couple inches but look at the results of those couple inches. Think what those couple inches would have meant to a player like Barry or especially Rickey!
Barry would have won 4-5 more Gold Gloves but he played at the same time as Ozzie Smith. Lindor with a little more average and less thump.
Ichiro Suzuki should be the next player
Players are expected to hit for more power today. Everything is about exit velo and launch angle. This is why most hitters average 130 strikeouts a season.
What about, Edgar Martinez?
How does Bobby Witt Jr comp to Larkin?
Bobby is a better player already and will reach higher levels if healthy.
WTF is that creepy thumbnail, could you not afford to license a real picture of him?
Kratz tried to correct himself and still brain cramped.
wtf is this AI thumbnail?
No doubt in my mind Dante Bichette deserved the 1995 over Barry Larkin.
Good player that was able to play for a long time but unfortunately not a HOFer. It took 19 seasons to get 2300 hits plus no real pop. At least unlike Alan Trammell his OPS was over .800.
Has an mvp award and a world series chip and was 1st 30/30 SS. if he had been a Yankee or Dodger he'd be a HOFer I bet.
He already is a Hall of Famer😂
His OPS is 815 Barry Larkin so he has over 800 too so what’s your point
