The more I watch Judge struggle in October, can't help, but think that Jeter is probably underrated. Performing under the bright lights on the biggest stage is what it's all about.
This might wrestle some feathers but the fact that Derek Jeter was so well balanced and consistent and above average makes him in my eyes a much better acquisition than a Juan Soto!
The people that call Jeter “overrated “ are the nerds that never sit to watch a game with their own eyes, I’ll take 9 Jeters on my lineup all day every day.
@@ish7957People get so offended by the defensive metrics and him winning Gold Gloves when that award has always been more of a popularity contest than anything else. Just look at Rafael Palmeiro in 1999. The point is, Jeter always made the big plays when he had to and his defense never cost them on the biggest stage.
@jdovma1 The only reason why Jeter is as popular as he is is because he played in NY. You know damn well it wouldn't be the same if he played in Kansas City
@ish7957 Ever think about how much more pressure that put on him to have the career he had in one of the most ruthless and demanding sports markets in the world? That's a two-sided discussion.
He was good. Very good. Really! One of the top ten SS's in history of the game. For a dynasty franchise, you have Ruth, Gehrig, Mantle, DiMaggio and then you can start the debate between Jeter and Yogi for #5. Overrated is a term used by those who don't have an argument. It's purely subjective and it's nothing you have to defend. 100 years on, he will still be revered. And his postseason is actually underrated. Some will note that his postseason numbers are similar to his regular season (as if that's a negative), but that ignores that offensive production decreases by about 30% or more in the postseason because of the high quality of competition. Not for him. Yes. He was a winner and one hell of a player.
Jeter is literally baseball Kobe. Mets fans ran the overrated narrative to the ground cause thats what they do. Jeter was a winner and always showed up in the clutch.
What he never gets credit for in the defensive conversation was his game intelligence. He didn’t have great range, but he was always in great position and made the plays.
@ yah true he definitely was regressing but wen ppl say he overrated I look at stats like that he was a hit machine and one the most clutch in the postseason wen it mattered
Nobody on the planet was ever saying that Derek Jeter was better than Barry Bonds or Ken Griffey Jr in the 90’s. Nobody in the 2000’s would ever say Jeter is better than Pujols. People make up lies to discredit Jeter all the time and end up just sounding STUPID.
Always had hitters all around him. Prime Cano when Yankees had no one left. He is 2004 leadership along with pass ball Posada. Wish Mattingly came up in 1996 instead of lucky Jeter.
Shalom we can’t be bias, everyone knew that jester wasn’t the greatest fielding shortstop yet he won’t gold gloves and Arod was an elite shortstop and should had been the shortstop in ny but he was so elite he made the 3rd base move seem easy, didn’t some of you were so uncomfortable when Soto was nominated for a gold glove ? You have to be fair with everything blessings!!
@@pwx13not at all. Jeter hit over 20 home runs three times in his career. He wasn’t the slugger Williams was . They both hit for average. But Bernie was the better all around hitter. Take both of them in their prime and it’s clear who the better all around hitter was.
Really good player but he should've left the shortstop earlier in his career… He has 4 gold gloves but also a Career -152 DRS Lol That's one of the poorest stats in MLB SS history
Defensive runs saved is a poor metric, when Jeter played no one noticed this. The truth is he didn't make mistakes which is much more important than "Defensive runs saved "
@@pwx13 Cause he doesn’t get to the ball in time or won't even attempt for it. It’s called “limited range” and Jeter is well known for that. Good SS will get to the ball in time and handle the plays as if nothing happened instead of jumping
@SA-hk7bw I don't care, I want titles, I want players that pitbull titles. Like it or not, Manny Ramirez, Jeter, Sheffield, Jose Canseco are champions and defense doesn't mean much
Was he more talented than Normar and Arod? I don't think so, but was he one of the best leaders in his era? Definitely, yes. He simply knew when to elaborate his game, especially in the playoffs, and that's what Jeter is. Overrated stuff comes when people put Jeter into the eltie tier category, which is a stretch as he is a HOF, but not once a generational player for sure.
A Rod is inferior to Derek Jeter. A Rod didn't belong on the Yankees. A Rod ruined the Yankees long term as he changed the chemistry of the Franchise and the yanks still hurt today
Derek Jeter hit .308 with 200 hits, 20 home runs, 61 RBIs and 111 runs scored in 158 games in the postseason in his career.

I grew up a yankees fan in the 80s and early 90s... we never won. Jeter shows up and we win 5 of 7 World Series trips. Can't argue with that.
Derek Jeter was an exceptionally well balanced and consistent above average player! The combination of those three made him truly exceptional!

Greatest shortstop of all time. Period. I judge greatness by rings.
There is no other Yankee shortstop other than Jeter. I didn’t see Rizutto. Todd is right.

Kratz doesn’t realize that his Jeter jersey has more value, not less. It’s like those upside down airplane stamps..
I'm gonna tell him this to make him feel better!
Clutch is not measured, Jeter was Mr. Clutch.
How many rings did Barry Larkin have?
Do a 'How Good..' on Orel Hershiser.
good call we will
If jeter played 4 more years same as Pete rose he prolly would be all time hit leader
I don't know about that. His last season was kind of rough but defensively and offensively. I don’t think he could have kept the pace to get there.

The 1% of the .5%
I would take Jeter over Soto everyday. The best TEAM player vs the best ME player
I've heard some people saying that Paul O'Neill and Bernie Williams was the real stars of that Yankees years. Don't know if it's true
