Derek Jeter hit .308 with 200 hits, 20 home runs, 61 RBIs and 111 runs scored in 158 games in the postseason in his career.

The more I watch Judge struggle in October, can't help, but think that Jeter is probably underrated.
Performing under the bright lights on the biggest stage is what it's all about.

This might wrestle some feathers but the fact that Derek Jeter was so well balanced and consistent and above average makes him in my eyes a much better acquisition than a Juan Soto!

@@ish7957People get so offended by the defensive metrics and him winning Gold Gloves when that award has always been more of a popularity contest than anything else. Just look at Rafael Palmeiro in 1999.
The point is, Jeter always made the big plays when he had to and his defense never cost them on the biggest stage.

    • @ish7957

@jdovma1 The only reason why Jeter is as popular as he is is because he played in NY. You know damn well it wouldn't be the same if he played in Kansas City

He was good. Very good. Really! One of the top ten SS's in history of the game. For a dynasty franchise, you have Ruth, Gehrig, Mantle, DiMaggio and then you can start the debate between Jeter and Yogi for #5. Overrated is a term used by those who don't have an argument. It's purely subjective and it's nothing you have to defend. 100 years on, he will still be revered. And his postseason is actually underrated. Some will note that his postseason numbers are similar to his regular season (as if that's a negative), but that ignores that offensive production decreases by about 30% or more in the postseason because of the high quality of competition. Not for him. Yes. He was a winner and one hell of a player.

Cause he doesn’t get to the ball in time or won't even attempt for it. It’s called “limited range” and Jeter is well known for that.
It’s hard for the casual fans to notice the errors due to limited range since he couldn't even make it to the play but only remembers the flashy “jump throw” stuff.
Good SS will get to the ball in time and handle the plays as if nothing happened instead of jumping

Was he more talented than Normar and Arod? I don't think so, but was he one of the best leaders in his era? Definitely, yes. He simply knew when to elaborate his game, especially in the playoffs, and that's what Jeter is. Overrated stuff comes when people put Jeter into the eltie tier category, which is a stretch as he is a HOF, but not once a generational player for sure.
