I'm a huge fan of the Bugaloos I have the complete dvd set when I was growing up one Halloween my brother and I got dressed up as the Bugaloos I was joy&my brother was sparky it's a very special memory that I will cherish forever
Wow. Haven’t though about these guys in so long. I always loved the Sid and Marty shows when I was a kid. I thought the girl was so sweet looking. The theme song is kind of squeezing though my head. Thanks, as always.😃. Innocent times.
Yep. Simpler, sweeter times for sure!
We're in the air and everywhere.
OMStars! I LOVE The Bugaloos! I actually have the series and the vinyl record album that they recorded back in the '70's. Tha last Hallowe'en I ever went out for I actually dressed as JOY! Ta so much for speaking about this sweet series! Cheers, Mr. Sundrum! Be stay safe and be Blessed! X
PS...I also am the proud owner of the three novels based on the programme! X
That's awesome, Eden! I'm glad you found my video!
I loved the Bugaloos. I watched every Saturday and yes I loved the song!!
Loved that show! I was eight yrs old, and Joy stole my little heart!
My favorite episode is the one where she sang "Senses of our World".
OnTheFritz602 To me Caroline Ellis' best song was Castles in the Air, but not by much. They cut The Senses of our World in half on the show, but the whole song is on the album.
I love the early 70's with the Banana Spits and the Bugaloos on Saturday morning thank you for airing this it bring back the good old days for me. I almost forgot remember Danger island you got to post it on your channel it is the best.
I barely remember the Bugs, but Sid and Marty had a lot going in their time! You're right though, the good stuff! :-)
YES!!! The Bugaloos were, and still are, my favorite Krofft show.
I remember them I was in 1st grade! Watched it on channel 24 KMJ-Fresno. Part of our childhood!
So adorable !! I did not see this until I was a teenager , watching re-runs of coarse, but it was great
Omg. The Bugaloos!! Loved, loved this show in the early 70’s. (I was 5). I still have my metal lunchbox I carried to school.
Yay ! Yay!!!!!!! the Bugaloos, my favorite krofft show. I wanted to fly around in pink wings like Joy. It was a little girls dream. Very colorful, flying teens trying to save serenity forest from Benita Bizarre. I asked my sister a few years ago about this show. I asked her if she remembered a bunch of flying teenagers that were bugs. She thought I was crazy but I knew I was right. Luckily, I found it again. Thank God for the internet! She watched it when I showed it to her and then she remembered. Some of those Krofft shows stayed buried deep until the internet came along, at least for me. Thanks Dave !
Your comments made me smile, Cindy! Thanks for taking the time to share. :)
I was too young to be interested in the merch but I LOVED the show!!! Very few people I've spoken to remember it and that can be frustrating. I have no idea which episode was my favorite since I haven't had the chance to watch them lately. I just wanna thank you for bringing back my childhood memories! 💜
You're welcome....and thanks for commenting, Emily!
at the young age of 7 years old, loved Joy played by Caroline Ellis. awesome show !!
Unforgettable! You brought sweet memories! Thanks!
Sid And Marty Kroft, a major part of my childhood.
Talking dragon, singing bugs, magic lands, and a friendly sea monster.
Now that theme song is gonna be stuck in my head all night. Thanks, Dave!! Haha!!
This is the first time I've ever heard of this program!
Sid & Marty Kroft was a part of my life growing up from Bugaloos , Lost Space Saucer , Lidsville , land of the lost , Far out Space nuts , Sigmund and The Sea-Monsters Saturday morning was a magic time as a kid back in the early & late 70's
I'm going to have to dig out my Sid & Marty Krofft DVD and re-watch some of these episodes.
That sounds like a great way to spend the weekend!
I remember watching that show. I remember that I was only 7 years old when it came out in the Fall of 1970. I don't have a favorite episode. I enjoyed it so much, that I bought the series on DVD. Great memories. Love the show. Part of my childhood. Thanks for posting.
Wow vaguely remember this. ❣️Martha Raye❣️Thanks Dave❣️Thank you and Everyone Stay Safe❣️‼️
The girl was cute. Real cute.
Super cute!
I think we need a live action movie about the Bugaloos. Why not. The dig up the old corpses of tv shows all the time and make movies. No doubt we will be seeing more bugaloos soon.
Orlando Tourist Traps If I recall they are rebooting The Bugaloos as a television series, but a movie would be interesting as well
I was still watching re-runs of this in the early 80's. I had no idea back then that it had premiered in 1970.
The bugloos the bugloos they're here there every where fiying high flying free flying i forgot but love sing that song so good memories kroff superstars can't get enough especially the bugloos thank you dave good stuff is the best stuff
You are so welcome, Bryant!
I loved this show when I was a kid. I wish they played reruns now. Tfs 😀
Omg I completely forgot about this show.
That’s why I love your channel!
I watched The Bugaloos as a kid but didn't realize I watching reruns until now since they were only new in 1970. I remember having a crush on Joy as well as on Holly from Land of the Lost. It's hard to find DVDs of a lot of the Krofft shows at reasonable prices but I check ebay and Amazon periodically 🙂🙂🙂
I loved the Bugaloos! They were my favorites!
The Bugaloos, The Bugaloos
They're in air and everywhere,
Flying high, flying free like a summer breeze ... 😁😁😉 Thanks ! ✌
again thanks MR.Dave
They lived in flowers! What a beautiful fantasy world.
Any episode with Joy! As a young teen I WAS IN LOVE WITH HER!!!!!
I even remember that, at the end of the closing theme song (same as the opening), the cast would ask us viewers to write them. And the sentence forming the request was broken up between each individual Bugaloo.
IQ: Don't Forget... COURAGE: to write.... HARMONY: We'd love to hear... JOY: From You!
I was five in 1970 , and my younger brothers and I watched quite a bit of Sid & Marty Krofft stuff on Saturday morning (H.R. Puffinstuff has always been a particular favorite of mine) , but I can't recall ever SEEING 'The Bugaloos' - I have no idea WHY ! The only place I've ever seen/heard of them is 'stumbling upon' occasional videos on RUclips.
Maybe you were just a bit too young when the show initially aired.
Loved the Bugaloos AND the Monkees!!
I remember them!! Witchie poo also.. I was born in 1961. Loved them!!
What an awesome 😎 show! I remember it very well, from a bygone era. My favorite episode from the Bugaloos was when the tall blonde bugaloo disguised himself like Benita Bizarre
This show started me down the S&MC rabbit hole!!!!
It's a wild ride!
You finally covered the Bugaloos! I loved this show Had the lunchbox and the album I loved that Joy lived in a waterlily I wanted her hairstyle but my naturally curly hair wasn't having it Didn't know Phil Collins auditioned for this He would have been great Thanks Dave☺ 💝
Laura Strobel He has a longer version of that video on his channel which I watched a few months ago.
I KNEW this wasn't just some mixed up fever dream I had as a kid!😜Pufenstuf is widely referenced but I remember that pretty Toni Tenille haired Bug! These vids r great, Sugar!😊
Dave you are the you tube master
As are you!
Forgot how much I liked this show. Have interacted with a few after watching your video. Live your content (I believe they are quite aware of your channel - FYI)
Wow, thank you, Rick!
I loved this show especially Martha Raye who delightfully wickedly played Benita Bizarre.
Martha Raye was great!
@@jdsundstrom Also she played the housekeeper on McMillan and Wife when Nancy Walker left the show. It would be nice Dave if you do a tribute to her.
I almost forgot! Martha Raye played Mel's mother on the Alice TV show. She was hysterically funny!
Wow, I watched a lot of kid TV then, as a kid, and have no memory of that show! I do remember The Monkees and HR Puff & Stuff, tho.
Hey Dave I haven't watched the bugaloos looks entertaining though cool video man 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
"The Bugaloos" have a cameo clip in a scene from "The Tao of Steve" - totally awesome
Too cool!
I *really* liked The Bugaloos a lot. My favorite episode is the one where they sang that song, "For A Friend" (The video can be seen here on RUclips. I *loved* that song as a child and I only got to hear it when Bugaloos were on tv. Also, finding out that the show actually only lasted one season kind of blows my mind because as a child it always seemed to be on.
Joy was another of my childhood crushes.
AWESOME !!!
I had never heard of The Bugaloos until Nick At Nite's Puffapalooza marathon in 1996. When I saw the show for the first time that day, of course I immediately fell in love with Caroline Ellis.
The song "For A Friend" went to # 128 (1 week) on Billboard's Bubbling Under The Hot 100 Charts on December 19, 1970. Their album did not chart on Billboard Top 200. Caroline Ellis Facebooks me from time to time!! The episode that I love was when they became tiny when Benita Bizarre zapped them (like the 1989 movie "Honey I Shrunk The Kids")!! I do have the complete series on DVD!! The only missing thing was Wayne Larena who was not interviewed.
Great extra info, Matthew! Thanks for sharing. :)
Oh sweet joy.
Oh yes!
Thanks.
Dave, I can still hear Caroline Ellis singing "Castles, castles in the a-air." Loved For a Friend, Believe, It's New to You, The Senses of our World, and a song from the album not in the show, Just the Memory Stays Around. My cassette of the album was stolen years ago, so I need to find it on YT. But I also like that they did 'live' 1:30 versions (also pre-recorded ) of the songs that were different from the album versions. And I actually think I heard The Bugaloos speak in British accents before I heard the Beatles speak!
I was a huge fan especially of the girl!
Watched them and Sigmund and the Sea Monsters later on....Sid and Marty Krofft's stuff was good.....I never told my friends at that time I watched either.....I had a reputation to keep up.....lol
I did not really get into watching the Bugaloos as I was just starting High School but did tune in once in a while. Clean fun then, not so sure about these days ;-)
I was just a fan of Sid and Marty Kroft!!! The Bugaloos, Dr. Shrinker, Wonderbug, Land Of The Lost, Electrawoman And Dynagirl, H.R. Puffinstuff- all great, wholesome (if a little weird at times) fun!!!
According to a story in Tiger Beat magazine, the Kroffts wanted British actor-musicians to portray the Bugaloos because so many of the fan letters to Jack Wild (star of H.R. Pufnstuf) said “I love your accent, it’s so cute!”
The Bugaloos were announced as part of the Macy’s 1970 Thanksgiving parade, but for whatever reason they did not appear.
John Philpott, also known as Little John (to distinguish him from John McIndoe) was my favorite Bugaloo.
BelievingRebel Not sure where you got that information from that The Bugaloos didn’t appear in the Macy’s Thanksgiving day parade! According to three of The Bugaloo actors they did appear in Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, there is also an image on the internet of all four Bugaloos in their Bugaloo buggy waving to the crowds of people on the sidewalk
@@Puppetgirl93 The info came from my diary. I watched the parade and didn’t see them, and I wrote about it. Perhaps I was out of the room when they appeared.
Martha Raye. She did very many USO shows to entertain the troops in Vietnam. Great lady. Also known as Hungry Jerk.
Ah the seventies with Std and Marty!!Classic TV!!Martha Ray was awesome!Joy was cute!
Loved the Bugaloos
Phil Collins had a part in the movie 'Hard Day's Night'. He was in the autograph party scene.
I got to participate on 2 different question and answer session on Sid Krofft’s Instagram feed and I asked him two Bugaloos questions, I asked him how he came up with Sparky Firefly (my favorite character in the series) and what it was like working with Martha Raye
He was very kind enough to answer both questions! He said that Sparky was created to be the light for Tranquility Forest, and to be the light for Benita Bizarre who had darkness inside her
He also said that Martha Raye was a very good friend of his and was a wonderful, professional and very funny lady!
It was too bad that NBC decided NOT to show "The Bugaloos" in reruns later on in the late 70's. I had to wait until "Nick At Nite" "Pufnpalooza" in September 1995 when they showed the debut episode "Firefly, Light My Fire" & the 4th episode "Courage, Come Home". Then it was "The Family Channel" in October of 1996 till late February of 1997 when that channel showed 16 out of the 17 episodes (except "Circus Time At Benita's")!! My favorite show over "Land Of The Lost" which is 2nd!!
I did not know that the show had aired on The Family Channel! Thanks for sharing, Matthew!
Wow this one really takes me back. I remember the episode where Courage was knocked unconscious and lost his memory. He was found by Benita Bizarre who convinced him she was a relative. And when he asked "If you're my Aunt, how come you don't have wings like me?" And if I'm remembering right, Benita's excuse was a cosmetic surgery mishap! "Oh, I was having my wings done and something went wrong... just a bad wing job..."
I liked The Monkees; but, The Bugaloos? I can't say that I've ever watched them, even accidentally.
But you remember the theme song, right?
@@jdsundstrom I can't recall even hearing abut them. I watched the Monkees but have no memory of the Bugaloos.
I remember the theme song and nothing else.
Oh she was soooooo cute...
Yeah, a bit before my time. Was not ever into live action Saturday morning programming I was all about the animated feature.
i remember that bubble gum music and that show
The Bugaloos were slightly smaller than the mosquitoes we have here in North Carolina....
I think my favorite episode is when harmony has to switch voices with Bonita bizarre. That always made me laugh listening harmony who are looking at Harmony with that voice.
I remember that one!
But isn't that Sid & Marty Krofft M.O., just shoot for 1 season even if it's a hit and rerun everything next season till infinitum or till the kids grow up and tired of the whole Sid & Marty compendium of Saturday morning shows.
Honestly, I'm a 60s kid and I have never heard of them. Where the hell was I ?
Debuted in 1970. Were you an older teen at that point?
@@jdsundstrom ........ no, in 1970 I was 10
Ah Joy, Joy, Joy.... Sigh....
It was a silly show and I loved it! Martha Raye was probably the main reason I watched it.
Never heard of them.
Interesting enough singer Vanessa Carlton’s song “A Thousand Miles” is very similar to The Bugaloos theme song
Hey Dave, do you remember a short scene at the beginning of an episode where the Bugaloos are sorting through their mail? Apparently one of the lads had a subscription to "Playbug" because there was a copy of the magazine in the mail ! My brother and I got quite laugh from this and mom frowned upon the joke. Of course, bro and I used the word "Playbug" in every other sentence for weeks!
I've never heard of the bugaloos.
@Dave Sandstrom (Actually) ''The Monkees'' were a synthetic made for TV “rock group who's television series was a direct homage to the Beatles' first film “A Hard Day's Night” 1964. Now, I'm not sure if (Sid and Marty Krofft) ever verified this or not? But from the looks of it. The Bugaloos may have been inspired by the 1968 Beatles animated film ''Yellow Submarine''. Judging by not only the overall motif of the show. But also, if you look at many of the characters like ''Sparky''... You can see a slight resemblance to the character ''Jeremy Hillary Boob''- Ph.D. Or Martha Raye's character ''Benita Bizarre'' looked like she could have been the wife of the ''Chief Blue Meanie''.
I don't think the Krofft brothers have ever acknowledged the influence that "Yellow Submarine" had on "The Bugaloos" but I totally agree with your assessment.
@@jdsundstrom Was Land of the Lost the only Krofft brothers Saturday morning live action show that lasted for more then a year?
@@jeffreycoogan09 No. There might be others...but the one that immediately comes to mind is "Bigfoot and Wildboy" which had at least 2 seasons, maybe 3.
@@jdsundstrom Yes. Its confusing because "Bigfoot and Wildboy" began as a segment of The Krofft Supershow in 1976 and then became its own series three years later.
I’ve so glad I never had the chance to watch this show.
Ha! Well, I guess I'm glad for you then. 🙂
Man think of Phil Collins what a band
Never heard of it.
But while you are in the mood to talk about vintage kids' TV, I'd love to know what you have to say about two great but almost forgotten shows, The Electric Company and 3-2-1 Contact, both part of PBS's Children's Television Workshop along with Sesame Street.
Vintage Sesame Street (1969-early 80's) is also great, and much better than what has been put out over the last 25 years.
I don’t remember this, I was five in 1970
Yeah flying on the surfboards did indeed look cool! In fact, if I hadn't been absolutely certain that Marvel's Silver Surfer had made his debut in the 60's, I'd have cried foul. (I DID cry foul over Hero High's "Captain California" who debut on a flying surfboard in the '80's)
Huh. I don’t remember them. I was in elementary school at that time but I don’t recall them.
🧨🧨
Yeah as usual, I crushed hard on Joy. Watched a lot, don't remember much though except the theme song
I liked them too. But the Krofts frequently did this so they only had to create one season. Perhaps they figured that a new crop of kids would come every year.
Always thought that short lived 80s cartoon Kid Video was a rip-off of the Bugaloos! (But IT had Robbie Rist on Base!)
Oooooh goodness! I loved the Bugaloos when I was a kid! I used to watch this show (I wanted to be Joy soooooo badly!), Hot Fudge, Kristy & Jimmy McNichol’s show and Sid & Marty Kroft’s show with the Bay City Rollers. My mom was super young (She had just turned 16 when she had me), so we used to watch these shows together. It would have been a trip to see Phil Collins as a Bugaloo. I wonder whatever happened to that guy... 😏😆 Does anyone know what happened to the actors who played the Bugaloos? Thanks for posting this, Ah, memories....
You're welcome! And...thank you for sharing your memories with us!
John Mcindoe (IQ) lives in Arizona and apparently works with puppets, Wayne Laryea (Harmony) and John Philpott live in England, Wayne is no longer acting and is an English teacher, John Philpott is still a musician and Caroline Ellis lives in Spain, she is the mother of a daughter and worked in real estate, I don’t think she is in the real estate business anymore
The Bugaloos?!
Is there anything that Milton Bradley didn't make a board game out of?
Phil Collins is awesome!
I remember having crush on Caroline Ellis (Joy) but not really caring for the rest of the show.
The show seems like it had a weird weird promise...
Super weird! That's what I love about those old Krofft shows. 🙂
