I got to replace the battery in a friend's phone yesterday and it had previously had the screen replaced at a professional repair place, I found 6 screws loose in the phone, a ribbon cable routed on the wrong side of the EMI shield and multiple screws in the wrong holes. I was astonished. Point is don't expect someone to do a better job because you pay them to repair something professionally it just means they're under more time pressure.

Just thought I'd say a great repair as always Vince. People love the PS4 videos, you should definitely do more. You'll find as you go on you'll start finding some pretty nifty tricks to repair them. Keep up the good work bud 😏
Great job =D You may get that laser working by soaking the laser assembly in IPA (for like 2 hours) ! Sometimes smoke or dust does get inside the optical path!
Really? I frequently have white residue when cleaning stuff with too much IPA. (99.9%) I do have a laser from a smoker´s PS4 still in my basement. It works intermittently. Will try to do the IPA bathing and see what’s coming out of this.
@@marcianzero_yt The white residue shows there's either some contamination on the thing you are cleaning, or the IPA is not as pure as its made out to be! IPA should just evaporate leaving no residue at all. The other possibility is its reacting with what you are cleaning.
Very good idea Chris. The replacement laser has arrived so I might do a revisit vid on this faulty one and see if it can be resurrected. If not I will fit the new one. Cheers mate :-)
@@Mymatevince I repair consoles for a job and I've found that if a laser is exposed to smoke and nicotine then cleaning it won't help, the laser will of been damaged already so just Install new one and save time
Hi Vince, great video. I have a tip for removing light scratches on plastic. I use brasso, the tin with the wadding, and I lightly polish the area with the wadding and it really works. If you do it on painted surfaces you have to be extra careful that you don't go through the painted surface. I've used it for the many boomboxes and tape decks I repair and they look great. Keep up the great work my friend. Kind regards. Paul.
hey, your getting better at the music. Even though I like the classical music this is a nice refresher to your vids. Looking forward to the next 1hr long trying to fix videos.
My brothers PS4 which was a launch model held so much power it would actually start to turn on with the light and everything for about 2 - 5 seconds and then shut off. Crazy how much power them caps can hold.
im actually thankful my launch model ps4 has never had any issues. nothing replaced etc. only thing ive had to really do is change the paste and clean the heatsink. i lubricate the fan everytime i open mine. sounds super quiet today (edit: its also used on a daily from watching tv, youtube or netflix to playing call of duty or gta)
Thank you Vince. I always love watching your trying to fix console videos and all the trying to fix videos. Way to improve my weekend with one of your videos. Again thank you.
Hello everyone and welcome back to another trying to fix video. Today, we're going to try to fix a Military Nuke. .................. Allright, let's test i..... boom!
Hi, I just wanted to say that you are doing an amazing job of fixing electronics. Good job! You are also keeping faulty electronics from landfill. Thank you.
An ultrasonic bath would be handy for all the cleaning that you do. Most parts including PCBs can safely be cleaned in one, you just need to be careful about nylon and rubber parts which are best cleaned by hand and you need to be sure parts are fully dried before reassembly. It would save you a lot of work.
Hi Vince .When i clean my computers and game consoles I take them over my garage where I have a small compressor. It's much better and removing all the dust especially from hard to reach places .It's easier and quicker to use a brush everything down and blow the dust out. Its brilliant for the fans where the brush just loosens the dust and the air blows it off.I always hold or secure the fan blade to stop it spinning when blowing them out as you can break the blades if the fan changes direction suddenly when you blow it out. The dust that comes out of fan cooled power supplies is unbelievable. I find the minute you use something damp ,like a wet wipe on the fans, you have to go over every part of it multiple times to remove the sticking dust. If everything is dry and you just use a brush the air takes it straight off.A wipe down with some ipa after dust is removed and looks as good as new. I know there are warnings about static electricity caused by moving air etc but I have been doing this for thirty years and have yet to have a problem. The only times I had a problem with static is when I forgot to ground myself by touching the case etc before working on a pc. Must have built up static from walking on carpet, buggered a graphic card up, happened twenty years ago, lesson learned and have never happened again. Thanks for the video mate.
Sweet video again Vince! I just replaced the digitizer on my dads iPad Air 1 not sure if you have done one I’ll have a look! Took me a couple of hours but all works thanks for the inspiration! All the best!
Nice fix :) Great example of the method, that even if something initially looks unfixable, it's always worth checking, if it's just a simple problem anyway.
Idk how you have so much patience with that power supply if it was me I’d put a screw driver and pull up as hard as i could after trying for 2 minutes😂
Thank you for the video. Very entertaining as usual. But I hope you don't start to fastfarward throw al your videos! Even if you don't come to a conclusion or a fix. it is fun to se you disassemble a laser just because that's what you and me do. Fix what you have some time you are successful some times not. Journey is the goal. A quick version is like a good adult film but some times it is good with a full romantic comedy. Thank you once again!
When you flipped the laser assembly over there was a silver cover. I need to take off that silvercover there's a mirror underneath that that's probably just dirty
I have come across a couple of PS3's that don't read discs. It's usually the older models but even the revised one. The cheap top loading ones seem to be ok. I even have a 360 that freezes when playing through a disc after a few minutes of playing.
As lasers get older they use more power which causes more heat. The focus is done by a "voice coil" that gets hot and looses its ability to hold the laser up. The result is sometimes you can adjust the focus to get it working but will not last. Sorry this is a bit poor explanation but its the jist of it.
Good stuff. You have to lever the LSH of the PSU up first. If you lift the opposite side first it is actually quicker reseat the whole thing and start again. PS 'temporary' washer fix still working 2 years later...
You can remove the top plastic of the laser. Try cleaning the lenses from there. It's hard and requires a bit of careful prying with the cotton swab. I fixed one with similar issue just like that.
The two prongs that connect to the power supply are known to be really very stiff and hard to separate. One just has to wiggle and pull on the PSU on the side of the prongs for a while. No way around it.
I legit thought for a minute you were going to fix it by cleaning the mirrors. I still feel like if it wasn’t so hard to test your fixes at that level you could find the fault.
Lasers in optical devices are *extremely* sensitive to static and are often unknowingly damaged by simply being disconected. In order to protect laser diodes during handling, there should be provision for 'shorting' the laser, more often than not this can be found on the ribbon cable itself as a couple of exposed copper 'pads' which can be 'bridged' by a blob of solder. This should be done BEFORE removing / unplugging any cables. Hopefully this precaution has been done with your replacement and if so remember to remove any 'short' AFTER plugging the ribbon cables back in. It goes without say to be extra carefull regardless not to touch the ends of any ribbon cables. Hopefully your replacement won't have already been damaged this way before you get it.
Vince, don't let it update. I guess it's on a low firmware. At the moment you will get more for it as is 😉. Thanks for another awesome video . Take care 😀
The two prongs under the power supply was bent by the perso who take it apart before, i had a ps3 slim with the same problem, bent connector and stuck power supply.
Hi Vince, I have the exact same issue(first time light for 1 sec 2nd time nothing then repeat) minus the disk problem I tried fiddling with the sockets that receive the prongs for good 20 minutes inserting and removing power several times. I thought I was doing it wrong so I temporarily soldered wires on each prong and inserted in the sockets(continuity checked ok) still no luck. Inserted multimeter probes alongside wires in socket and I saw it supplying 12 volts for a sec and then off. Fan moves a little than stops(just like ur APU blod ps4 video). Any tips? I really love ur videos by the way they are very informative really appreciate your honesty and your step by step approach.
Hi Mate, Quick Question My amazon echo 1st gen I got yesterday off a family member. I couldn’t set it up with my iPhone. So I did it on my laptop. Once set up I used gave it some questions. No answer. The ring light lights up when I talk. I think it is a speaker fault. I am going to try open it today to see if anything is damaged or unplugged. Thanks Jack
normally for a disk problem (This only occurs with my copy of Far Cry New Dawn), is that it makes a few noises, refuses to read, and stops, I have to hit the top for it to work
Too funny you posted this I just finished diagnosing and partially repairing a PS4 Pro. Had a faulty hard disk which I replaced then got an error when installing the firmware that pointed to fuse F6202. Removed the fuse and bridged the connection temporarily with an extremely tiny jumper wire (~2mm) and the firmware could be reinstalled on the new hard drive. The disc drive had a bend in the top plate so I bent that back into shape and it will take discs in but can’t read them. I’m wondering if I can get that fuse and replace it if the disc drive will be able to read the discs. It loads and ejects just fine. A new fuse here in the US is about $14 after tax and I don’t have a reflow station so I’ll have to pay a local shop about $10-15 to do it for me but I think that would be worth it to get the disc drive fully functional again. What do you think?
It should still work, even with the bricked fuses, I did that too on two PS4 Pro (I just used some solder after I clipped off the fuses), both work fine. If it doesn't recognize disks it could either be a faulty laser or a bad ribbon cable/connector, I had both on separate PS4s.
Hi Vince, nice video.😊 I have a broken ps4, that i think would make for a good fix it video for you. What's the best way to contact you? Love your content.
That's not a BLOD, that's a fault with the electrical system. A BLOD means it turns on and the blue light keeps blinking. The original problem with it not taking disks in meant that the insides of the drive probably weren't aligned properly, if the drive was opened before (or the console was dropped). Also, what firmware is it on? If it has been sitting since 2019 without being turned on it might be on a firmware that is hackable, could be softmodded for all kinds of homebrew (and yes, piracy, but that is the least interesting part about softmodding).
You can use canned air under the flap ok the analog sticks or use contact cleaner. If that doesn't work then you can replace them with a stick bought off eBay but you'd need to replace it. But you should send them to Nintendo first instead of trying to fix it yourself unless you're out of warranty.
I have a similar issue with blood on a ps4 1001. The light turns on for 2 seconds and turns off. There is no fan spin. I found roaches in the system (got it off ebay). They were mostly in the psu, so that leads me to believe that the system needs a new psu since the fan does not spin within the 2 seconds. I ordered an new psu so hopefully that fixes it. If not the HDMI port is damaged so im going to remove that and check again just incase an HDMI pin is bridged.
I have refused service of "smoker's" computers. Sometimes they are "beyond" disgusting. Smoke is one of the easiest odors to detect. So not only do you need to be thorough in your cleaning, you should also stick some Febreze inside or maybe a pine scented car ornament near the fan intake.
@@MommotexxThe smell does go away, but only after a very long time. The ozone treatment they use with cars. It doesn't really work. It reduces, but does not eliminate.
Noticing the fact the disc would only go in so far, it looks like the spindle is NOT in the empty drive position. Since you checked some of the mechanism that does move, why doesn't the disc go in all the way? only ONE thing can ever do that, the spindle or motor is in the engaged with disc position. The biggest clue of all was how far the disc would go into the drive. The drive was registering a disc when there was no disc. That's the first ting I noticed @11:48. Now, this raises the question as to why? Why would the drive be registering a disc? The disc would not go in as far as the hole as the spindle is in the way. Biggest clue of all. In oter words, the spindle mechanism does move up and down to release the disc, should this fail, then eiother it will be stuck in the position it thinks a disc is in the drive and potentially, the motor has failed or a component more directly connected to that mechanism has failed. Maybe the drive was taken apart and nOT put back the way it should have been meaning the spindle was stuck in the wrong position when put back. Not sure but it was definately in the wrong position when you tried to put the disc in, as proven by how far it went in.
There is three for the blue color amd white only has 1 and orange has 1 ive got a 5.05 same model actually that has a fault in board and it has infinite blod either there is a fault in the hdmi or the chip that renders the image because when it gets powered on it pops. I’d like to be convinced there was an issue with the laser by seeing the “good” PS4 running OK with the new replacement. You never know😱😱😱
I have refused service of "smoker's" computers. Sometimes they are "beyond" disgusting. Smoke is one of the easiest odors to detect. So not only do you need to be thorough in your cleaning, you should also stick some Febreze inside or maybe a pine scented car ornament near the fan intake.
Buy an ozone generator. And place it in it's own room with some minor ventilation for 15-30 minutes. Should remove most of the smell.
@@MommotexxThe smell does go away, but only after a very long time. The ozone treatment they use with cars. It doesn't really work. It reduces, but does not eliminate.
this is good
Thank you Vince
