Allie, nice to see and hear another Easterner - I was born in Walter Reed Medical in DC - after WWII, we lived in Silver Spring, MD and my Dad worked in DC - as a child back then, the Smithsonian Institute that I knew and went to was in the original old building - was back there in '76 - saw the Hope Diamond and the museum had changed in 20 years that I had been gone from DC area - beautiful area - my memories are of a less crowded area and loved the horse farms in MD. I am going back and watching a lot of your you tubes - you two have truly been to a lot of different countries I would never have dreamt going to - what great memories you have. til later.....
Great shots of DC! I lived there for 10 years but moved away in 2012. I used to love taking friends sightseeing downtown and to the Georgetown waterfront. I went back to visit a month ago and had a blast doing a bunch of these same activities. I wish we had tried the scooters; we just walked everywhere and racked up 17k+ steps/day for a few days 😂
An idea for another vlog: a night on U Street! You could grab Ethiopian dinner at Habesha Market (hole in the wall vibe but excellent food!) or do classic hot dogs at Ben’s Chili (one of the few places that didn’t get burned down in 1960s race riots), and catch a jazz show at an old-school listening room like Twins Jazz. Makes for an awesome date night! Does cost money though
The guy raving was golden!!!
I had no idea DC had so many great restaurants. Those lights were beautiful. ~Smile!
My husband and I was there in August and we was so upset because we couldn't find parking.... We was going in circles so we just decided to live and come back home to FL... But we do intend on trying to make it there again once we have our van done.... Looks like U guy's had lot's of fun it's nice to let out ur enter child out lol... Gr8 video awesome....
I worked in DC for 7 years, two blocks from the White House. Retired in 2017. We were at Zoo Light a months ago, too bad we missed you guys. We moved back to the west coast.
DC has so many museums and historical sites- monuments. Is great for daytime sightseeing. Norfolk VA got rid of those scooters... they picked them all up and then billed the company for storage until they picked them up! lol. The city viewed them as a nuisance. Nice to see the Zoo Lights! I went to that zoo about a year ago.
Oh I’m so homesick. I’m from Germantown Maryland just outside of DC. I took so much for granted. Enjoy DC, so glad you are having fun!
I’m a fan of the ruby red slippers too. Thank goodness the stolen 4th pair were recovered!
Pretty sure Trent already knows he has one of the best parts of DC riding shotgun with him! Great video you two.
My home Washington D.C. ❤💪🏽🤟🏽
T&A...Wow, you all on budget so....for my son's 28th birthday 2 yrs ago, he's active Navy, took him on DC Segway Tour...yup, what a blast...it was so much fun...did it in September...they are up in University District...I am 63 so
anybody can do it,easy to stop and go, saves your legs lots of walking...hugs from old Mom in KENNEBUNK Maine.
I dropped a light fixture down town there on Monday. Then grabbed a load in Maryland, dropped in Oklahoma city, now dropping in Az then home for a couple days with my bride in Tucson. . Love your channel guys
It has to be great to enjoy a place like DC and then just go into your van and have a place to live.
Love DC and the surrounding area...Georgetown and Alexandria are must see. And yes, we spend a TON on food when in that city too! Paul's Pastry shop is our favorite place to eat and get good coffee.
Hey Trent & Allie!!! Is this a NEW video? That's unusually good/mild weather for December. I just moved from MD in 2o17. Stay warm, Be careful out there and Thank you for sharing. 😎
I’m mad I didn’t start watching you guys till a week ago, I would have loved to meet y’all.
Wow I love sight seeing in Washington. Thanks for all the great views. I've never see the Zoo lights before and they were really something special, weren't they. Thanks for freezing for us to see all that. Stay warm now and if I don't get a chance again--I hope the three of you and your families have a wonderful holiday!!!
Thanks for walking the zoo. We fly up every year tp place holiday wreaths in Arlington and have never found the time to visit the zoo. My favorite city in the US. Merry Christmas
Loved todays video. Dinner looked yummy. Zoo looked fun too.
Yup - DC can be a blast. You guys were within 6-8 blocks of our apartment in Georgetown. Cool.
Also worth mentioning: DC now has 700,000 residents but we don’t have voting senators or reps in Congress. More detail: www.tripsavvy.com/dc-voting-rights-1038966
I was stationed there for 4 1/2 years . So much to do and see!! Fun video! Glad you went to the zoo!!
Another awesome video! I am currently living vicariously through you guys. Lol! Thanks for always showing us a glimpse of places we’d probably never see. You are both so kind! I sometimes forget there is a whole other world out there besides where I live now. It’s nice to see other cities, people, restaurants, mountains, lakes, beaches, etc. So much adventure and you guys are livin’ it!! Safe travels always!! Merry Christmas from Arkansas!!🎄🎁❤️
Guys, love you so much! You guys emit a calm and very friendly vibe in all your videos! Loving them all! And who doesn't love them some Frank!! Keep them coming!🤗👍💗🐶
Thank you for having us along Trent & Allie i enjoyed your tour of DC ..on my to visit places next summer.
Now I know I'm going to have to see DC before I head West. Nice vid; warm up and give Frank a kiss, he missed you too.
Pretty cool. I need to go back again once I hit the road. Thank you!
This is so cool! I work in Georgetown and I am six months into building my own van!
Ayyyy I’m from va! About 40 mins away from dc and I feel the same as Allie! Never cared about the museums at a young age but now I find myself going down to the city more and more to explore
Thank you for showing us Washington D.C. It looks like a great place to visit!
Glad I found this! I live in DC and I’m so tired of dealing with this ridiculous rent and everything. I’m gonna keep working and probably try to convert to living in a van.
Fantastic B-roll on this video! You two are my favorite!
So awesome to know you guys are in the area!! I grew up in Nova just outside of DC 😁 I spent whole summers wandering around the city getting into stuff
Scooters are a great idea...back in the 70's, went to Hall & Oates concert at the Booth Theater...my girlfriend got free tickets and we then went to University District to MadHatter for some great food..it was awesome even
back then...
Thoroughly enjoyed your perspective and presentation of DC👍☺
Hey guys! Great video! I had forgotten about zoolights. Gotta get down there soon. Keep having fun! I know you will. Betty from Baltimore
Stealth camping in DC. Nice. Good video thanks.
Love seeing D.C.! I definitely need to go visit soon!
Very cool! The one and only time I was in DC was in the mid 80’s before the hyper security & at that time you just walked into the Smithsonian; wow. Allie, I have always been a Wizard of Oz fan so of course I had to see the ruby slippers first, lol! We did all of the monuments as well as the National Art gallery. It was also the first and only time I ever rode a subway; what a trip for this country girl! It was nice to see Georgetown, I also found it a beautiful place. The ZooLights looked awesome too. Fun day for sure ☃️. Kisses to Frank...he looked so sweet and happy when you guys got home. Stay warm and have a blast this Christmas season 🎄🎄🎄
the light show was really cool!
Enjoy guys
Love to meet up with you guys. Live on easternshore Maryland near Middletown Delaware up rt301. Anyhow you guys got lucky finding space that close. When we visit DC we take the metro. Take care and safe travels!
Totally love DC
I think Frank likes Italian food, flavored with a little whiskers!! LOL!
Really enjoyed DC . You did a great job. I especially loved the zoo lights 👍🎄🎄
Have a wonderful. Christmas 🎉🎉🎉🎄🎄
This video is one of your best videos, I really enjoyed watching it. Merry Christmas.
I hope Allie gets a new warmer coat for Christmas. I’m always cold so I layer a lot. Or a heated blanket in the van. That would be cozy. Good video guys. Love your channel. As always a 👍❤️
Merry Christmas or what ever you celebrate you guys are my favorite channel
Nice tour!
Oh wow, I miss Christmas in the States. Especially the lights at night^^
Christmas or new year is a great time to propose to Allie :)
Fun video. Loved the zoo lights. Thanks for sharing!
When I was in DC two years ago the reflection pool had dead ducks in it
Abbriele Always Learning sorry about that, I wish I vlogged that...
Almost done with my van build, I live in the northern VA area myself. Would love to do a meet up with you guys. Let me know for sure if you guys plan anything. Or it could be just us, still finalizing my build would love to get some input from ya. Love the vids keep em coming!!!
are you still in the area?
Check out Dan Aykroyd imitating Julia Child, it's hilarious! 😂
I was also remembering that stank food you had on your trip, I think in Italy, when you showed the first plate in the restaurant. What the hell was that again? Way too funny! Lol
Watching this way later... Maybe scooters would be good alternative to your MC for Terry? They're like 400 bucks each, and you can just charge them off your house battery :D
I live just south of Baltimore, so not far outside of DC I actually worked down next to UMD for a while, and I definitely take DC for granted...I've never been to the Smithsonian or any of the historic sights cause none of my schools ever went (even though we were close which seems so dumb to me now cause we went to places like gettysburgh & williamsburgh & nyc which are all further away) and now I just need to find the time because since I'm close I wanna do them all! Really the only things I've seen regularly other than shopping are Kennedy Center, Verizon Center, theatres my friends have worked at like Warner & Lincoln, and the U Street area...you should hit up Jeni's Ice Cream if you all are still in the area! They're a small chain from Ohio but they put one at U street & 14th and I literally drive 45 minutes to UMD & take the 30 minute Metro JUST for ice cream cause it's that good! My fave! Also just one of the few that doesn't give me a headache haha!
With a SmartTrip card you can take the 6 routes DC, itself, runs now to major sites: Circulator buses. These are $1 for 2 hours of hop on & off with your transfer stored in the card digital chip. The metal bus stop flags are orange & gray. At least 3 routes converge around Union Station. Inside all there is a pamphlet showing all 6 routes. They allow you to get to most sites cheaply over a 3 day weekend. The best way to learn DC is by walking & taking the Circulator buses D C provides specifically to meet your needs rather than commuter needs.
Surprised you are not in Mexico by now ! Keep warm when you can !
Looks like a good time
Charleston ordered them out and told them to come get them lol it was a bad mess. cars were hitting them, kids were stealing them; not knowing that they were tracked haha
People were pissed that they were laying around, everywhere lol
Were pretty simple; here in the south and don’t know what to do; when this comes to town hahaha
Did Trent not like the Smithsonian? That place is amazing!!
Thanx for the sharing a look at the city. Have heard great things and would love to visit however, DC is not very "Freedom Friendly"
Are you guys still in the area?? I’m a liveaboard just on the other side of the Bay Bridge, but plan to sell the boat and do van life in the spring. I’d love to meet up even just for a coffee before you leave!
Were about to join vanlife because this rent in DC sucks balls!😭☝️ Awww I gotta see zoo lights they have a tour bus i think!
Consider a houseboat?
Professor 4 U my fiance and I are both nervous of the water
@@BossQueen move to Maryland
Same!!
I really had fun watching you explore DC. I haven't been there in years even though I'm only 2 hours away. The Smithsonian is so cool !! Question for Allie; How do you keep the toothpaste from dribbling down your chin, while talking to the vlog?? ( what I have are a very particular set of skills, skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a tooth brushing nightmare for people like you. If you let me brush now, that'll be the end of it.) hahahahaha
The van in DC you’re brave. I should go to zoo this season never done it before.
A big attraction right now is the Tiny Train exhibit in the Botanical Conservatory until January 1. You can preview it on my 11 min vid just posted: Elf Tiny Train...
Thanks for the idea.
I was going to ask if you saw Julia Child's kitchen. Nice one,
I didn't know Allie was from here. That's so cool! How long are you guys in town for?
I’m from DC and I’m still in DC. Did you guys dive by the Palisades
Trent, you should propose to Allie! She's perfect for you. She cooks, cleans, loves dogs, she's funny, adventurous, likes van life, loves you, communicates well and is gorgeous! What else do you need man? Tick-tock my friend!
I have a question about you financing your van.
I found my van I want to buy, the bank has agreed to finance it and the build. They just don't know how to calculate the value once the build out is complete so they can finance the build out too. Did ya'll do that? If so how did the bank do it? If not do you know how I could put a value on it once it is complete?
did you figure this out?
@@cody.onewheel yes, they had me find a couple vans for sale that were similar to what I ended up with
Try &Pizza my favorite!!
How difficult is it finding parking in all the cities you guys travel too and if you had the non Ext version would it be much easier to park?
Love to know where to park overnight on the east coast. I spend a lot of time in New Jersey and its tough to overnight.
How do you keep your dog warm in the van when you go out. Thanks
if your in North Jersey I can see that. but in south jersey more farms. probably easier to park. I dont do Van life i only watch it. Just saying
In Maryland, anyone who has no other place to sleep is allowed by law to sleep on government land--a law left over from slavery days. There was one homeless woman who slept outside in a sleeping bag for years under an overhang of the former Rockville main library--until a new library got built and the old library lot became a courthouse.
During hyperthermia weather, if a person parks regularly inside the same police jurisdiction, they will knock on the door to find out if the occupant(s) are alive. They will also take a photograph. However, they will not ticket or tell people to move on. During recessions there are people living in their cars all over Maryland with their stuff in storage & people showering at their fitness clubs.
Frank is ready to do some running
you grew up there and your always cold.. lol .. just joking today was the first cold day 19 degrees alittle cold. Had to wear a hoody. Nice to see you two again.
Hi Trent and Ali, is there a website I can go to to purchase a van that’s already built out similar to yours? Are their companies that build them and sell them for people? I’m interested in buying one for a friend who desperately needs a place to live
guys -- the world is researching mud flood and tartaria right now. check it out. we have been given false history. all the beautiful buildings were here prior to the current version of the usa. there was a global reset ( mud flood ) and the survivors were given the amazing buildings without knowledge how to build them or use them. please search tartatia aether or look at the blue channel. jon levi is good too.
I believe there was an earthquake that damaged The Washington Monument. That is what the scaffolding was all about .At least that’s how it was explained to me when I was there in 2013 ish.
There was a magnitude 5 earthquake. Repairs were done, but elevator kept going out fir several years off & on.
Does Trent have freckles? Thank you Allie for clearing this question up. We have voted 4 to 5 that they are not freckles.
Yeah he’s got freckles 👨🏼🦰
You’re out of paper towels! 😱
Nows your chance to build a house like that 😂
What's y'all's heater situation???
Where did you park?!!
Try Christmas in Fredericksburg, Texas! (y)
Or Williamsburg where they put apples in outside wall niches of one brick house. That amazed me.
Does Trent ever where a night shirt?
How do I join the live chat and donate money?
Where exactly did you guys park overnight?
Drive across the line & park overnight in Maryland. It still has a slavery days law on the books that anyone without anywhere else to sleep can sleep on government land. Parking on a street curbside is government land if outside a development. Police will 9nly check if you're in the same city or county for a prolonged period during hyperthermia weather. Then they go around making life checks & photographing for id. But they don't say move on or ticket, if you are obeying posted parking regs.
I'm pretty sure we all pay for the museums via taxes. So prepaid, not really free 🙂.
You would be surprised how much of the revenue comes from gift store & cafeteria sales--not to mention IMAX shows at Natural History & both Air & Space locations.
In 3 years you will be sorry to be spending time there on that day. Check it out 3 years into the future. FBI wants to know what you doing in DC on this day. Haha.
Don't worry you didn't get arrested.
One of the slipper is fake they fond the other not long ago
What High School did you go to?
You need a helmet! Didn't you see the small sign on the scooter? Not that it will help when cars hit your legs. Be careful.
Poor Thomas Jefferson.......... not even a mention
The Thomas Jefferson memorial is in wooden pilings. The memorial is slightly tipping & sinking to one side. It also needs the exterior cleaned. One of the key contributors to the Kennedy Center is donating something like $12 million for the Lincoln Memorial restoration, including modernizing the bathrooms. However, nobody is coming forward to restore the Jefferson Memorial. Thinking in DC is that has to do with Jefferson's having had a multi-racial family, including slave children. Greece has discovered that marble over time turns to gypsum due to modern auto pollution, so marble memorials are at some risk.
Very cool, I live on the east coast and never been, definitely a bucket list destination. And wow it's amazing how far you have to be from the white house nowadays to just see it. Sign of the times. Where were the animals at the zoo? Besides the bipedal kind. 🐼🐯🐻
You can get closer on the Lafayette Park side.
Inside White House tours are free. However, you have to contact the offices of your legislators 6 months in advance for free tickets. The Capital Bldg tour you can reserve online fir a small processing fee. That may still be $2.
I’m from D.C. and I honestly don’t like Georgetown, it’s way to over hyped.
people have no reason to not sub!!
7:50 Ya the house looks cool but I’ve heard the current resident is not too likable
I love ur lifestyle...
Recommend losing the toothbrushing sequences..... constructive crit.
I loved the toothbrush bit, I thought it was cute.
