I agree!. Look at younger people and celebrities who die young, some not from their own actions but as you say from accidents etc - we still get to be here today connecting over our thoughts on this video. I was also told once that it is not getting old that we should fear but should fear NOT being able to get older. To not have a long experience on earth. I myself have outlived others and I'm fortunate that I'm still getting the days I have waking up each morning. It's all in how we think about things and having the self love to treat ourselves the best we can through life ♥️

Yes we all age and will leave this life no matter what. Acceptance is also a thing of beauty as when you are more at peace you don't hold onto that stress of getting older. I just want to look good for my age as I go through time, not strive to look 25 again.

The freedom this decision gives is huge and encompasses much more than just looks, as it allows me to be myself in every way. I am about to turn 68 this year. Occasionally, I look in the mirror and think my face looks old. Then I remember, "Oh, wait. I am old. I get to look old." even if I don't feel old.
I do remember being very concerned about aging when I was in my mid 30s. I did get my hair dyed for a while. But eventually, I just went natural.
One big thing has influenced my perspective on aging. I had "an a ha" moment at about 35 when I realized that my heros like Eleanor Roosevelt, Bella Abzug, Shirley Chisholm, or Golda Meir were neither beautiful nor young when they had the most impact in the world.
You, Vera, are having a lovely impact on the world. You will continue to look lovely regardless of the condition of your skin and body. ❤

Im 42. And I won't get botox either. That's ok for me to look older with age (it's just natural). I decided to focus on everyday care and also practise face joga, to help my face muscles work fine. And to use oil instead of a cream on my face. My skin is partly dry and partly oily and oil normalize it.
I think that''s not wrinkles that make us look older but lack of spark in the eye because we are tired or not happy. So let's take care of ourselves.

For me, it's the worry about things going wrong that puts me off, and that's why at 55 I've not had anything done. However, since menopause or perimenopause, it's not the wrinkles and grey hair that are aging me - it's how the face shape changes. The distribution of fat, slight jowls, things moving 'south' etc that bothers me - not wrinkles or grey hair. You're right in that aging is a gift and I am grateful for it - but sometimes it's hard to look in the mirror and see your face changing into an old person's face when you are still 'you' inside. Thank you for a thoughtful and well considered video.

Have you ever met someone that you thought was so pretty, until you got to know them and then you looked at them and wondered why you used to think they were beautiful? I'm 60, and I have beautiful gray hair, wrinkly skin, lines on my face, and sinewy, veiny hands, and I LOVE THEM!!! I feel like I look honest and genuine and have character. I love looking like an old lady; it gives me "age cred." I have three cousins who all died from cancer before they aged enough to get wrinkles. It's good to be alive and old and wrinkly; the alternative really sucks. Being old, and having the signs of age on my body makes me proud that I've made it as long as I have. I hope to become wrinkly, kick-ass 90-something year old lady, before I die and I sure don't want to try to look younger. Seriously, what's the point? Our society needs to "get over" ageism; it's gross and disrespectful.

You are as young as you feel. I shared that when i was young and in school everyone told me to stop smiling and laughing. I smile with my eyes. I have many laugh lines and wrinkles. I am closing in on 70. Do i wish i looked like i did when i was 20? Of course. It would be odd with a 20 year old face and a 70 year old body. Ultimately it is not what we look like on the outside. It is how we feel, and care for ourselves and others that counts. The fountain of youth has been searched for forever. Growth needs to come from inside as we mature. Wrinkles show character. There is no stopping aging. Great video. I hope you make another when you turn 50 to see if you feel the same way. Laugh ladies and enjoy your life. It is very short. ☮️🌍🌲

Very worthwhile video! I’ve been thinking about the topic so much as I always thought I would embrace aging gracefully. As I approach 55, I’m discovering it’s quite a process to witness my own aging. It’s pretty intense watching my transformation into older age…hands, neck, face….especially because I do a lot of videos for my business , I can see in detail how the last 5 years have aged me. There’s a grief process in saying goodbye to one’s young self. I’m practicing embracing that too. It’s a daily practice to challenge the societal norms of disliking aging at my age, I’m finding. I still intend to never turn toward artificial anti aging measures. And I love to demonstrate for others that we can embrace ourselves looking however we do. Thank you for adding your voice to this mission of helping people be comfortable with themselves!❤

I don’t think it’s the duty of the less fortunate and most affected to challenge the social norms.
Too exhausted trying to survive or grasp for crumbs.
At the same time, the people who do have the energy and the freedom to openly fight the status quo..tend to be the same people that benefit from it…so their arguments are either nonexistent or myopic to the point of being counterproductive or too ignorant to reach the necessary depth of conversation (for example, this video).
It’s easy for people to embrace good genetics and the fact that they experienced their youth to the point they’re less bothered and less “wanting” once it starts to fade. Not so easy for people who weren’t so lucky.
Yes, we all age, but people are not equal in their experiences or privileges or disadvantages which inform how they respond to the passage of time and its consequences.
It’s unfortunate that one of the only ways people can play catch up externally is the cosmetic surgery industry..because there are so many issues with it and so many people left worse off, along with stigma that makes it even harder for them to speak out.
Videos like this are not helping.
      Ignoring other relevant factors.
I don’t like this whole “natural is superior” nonsense, we indulge in so much “artificial” in all areas of life..nobody has a right pretend being “natural” is their virtue.
      It’s ridiculous and absurdly hypocritical.

I think you are right to not do it. I'm a few years younger than you and already gray haired after a big medical scare and i know that a lot of people, including a few of my students, asked me why i wouldn't dye my hair. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts. It always surprises me that people ask those kinds of questions and apparently feel it's okay to comment about someone else's appearance, or ask about their choices in such a way. The choice to dye or not to dye is ours alone :) And I agree, I want to try and practice being peaceful and relaxed about aging. :) Hope you're doing well after your medical scare, wishing you a great weekend!

      @Narja23 2 месяца назад +10

Thank you ❤ i'm perfectly fine, no worries! The gray hairs are the only consequences of the scare, and it actually has to do with the emotional shock, according to the medical team that helped me ^^
I can understand my students questions, though. I think they already are used to social media, TikTok and all, and for them, it probably seems very strange to be okay with signs of age on me, despite being younger than their parents 😂 i hope that my attitude will also impact them enough for them, when they will face the choice, to remember that not dying hair or not having botox and fillers is actually a choice they CAN make should they want to ^^

People are more “peaceful” about it when they’ve already been able to thoroughly enjoy what they’re about to lose.
      Not everyone has that luxury.
This is a complex issue that does not affect people equally.
Also, so much documentation in this day and age too. Even more for someone to be able to hold onto, over the years.

I’m going to be 42 this summer and I’ve thought a lot about aging since I turned 40. It was like a switch turned on the morning of my 40th birthday and suddenly I was consumed with thoughts on it. It was really weird lol. But anyway, I am not going to get anything “done” and I’ve also stopped dying my hair a couple months ago. I’ve dyed it for fun since I was a teenager and I’m finally giving it up. I want to watch and enjoy the process of seeing my gray hairs grow in over the next decades.
I live in SoCal where there’s a lot of cosmetic procedures and I’ve come to the realization that people look their age whether they have Botox or not. They just look like they’ve had Botox. I don’t really see the point.

I read a quote once: "Do not regret growing older. It is a privilege denied to many.” I've known a few people the same age as me who are no longer alive. I decided that I’m just going to let myself age and not worry about wrinkles, losing my hair or whatever. I’m getting close to sixty but yet I don’t necessarily feel I’m 50. I work in a high school and around young adults who could be my grandchildren, but yet it keeps me feeling younger. I’ve also come to the understanding that I’m not here to impress anyone but myself so I’m happy with how I am and who I am. I am a grandparent and I don’t think I look like one, or like I saw my grandparents. I feel like they looked older than I do. I also know that it’s a perspective of how old I was at the time compared to how I see things now. Everyone needs to just feel good about themselves and if that means Botox, fillers, etc., than that’s fine. Good video!

I’m turning 69 this year and feel like I’m 33! People think I’m in my 50’s.. I believe it is because I have a young spirit!
I’m aging gracefully and POWERFULLY! All my wrinkles are a tribute to my laughter and feeling life.. I would not want these deleted from my face.
I would not get any Botox or fillers because of the health risks. Financially, I would invest in memories with my loved ones and experiences, not facial expressions.
I eat healthy and exercise regularly. I choose to live a peaceful and healthy lifestyle.
My 70’s will be my best years yet. I’m excited for this season in my life!

Oh Vera, I’m so glad you posted this today! I turn 35 tomorrow and have been getting freaked out…partly because I don’t feel ‘accomplished’ enough for someone this age (that’s a different topic!), but I’ve noticed signs of aging in myself physically too, and am aware that this is stereotypically the age that women ‘stop being attractive’. It is a shame because I believe our true value lies in our kindness rather than the way we look, but I have clearly been affected by these negative (and untrue) messages in society around aging - especially as I am an actress!
I resonate with everything you say, and have chosen to steer clear of these procedures for the same reasons. I especially like the part about choosing gratitude and excitement over loss and fear 🤍 and I too feel younger at heart, that’s all that matters! Also, a couple of former colleagues of mine died suddenly within the past year, who were around the same age as us, and that has helped me remember that getting older is a gift and we need to embrace all we have, wrinkles and all 😉 Thank you Vera, this video has really soothed me and I’m sure it will encourage others to reflect wisely on whether to have these procedures or not. Big love from Bath in England! 🛁 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 🤗

I have been dying my hair for many years now, but I’m almost ready to give that up also
Only because there are a lot of chemicals in the dye and to be honest, I’m just tired of doing it 😖 I never thought I would be 65 but here I am and I’m happy that I made it to this age, my mom passed away at 65 from cancer and so I feel blessed to have each and every day that I am alive and very grateful 🩷

Compliments on your decision to think critically about what is best for you. As someone approaching 60 and contemplated the pressure of marketing in all its forms, I also decided that “turning back the clock” isn’t something in which I want to invest. I will invest in making my life a beautiful legacy of love, laughter, generosity, support, integrity, and living in a way that glorifies the God who created me. I’d be lying if I said there aren’t times I cringe at some of the changes in my skin and body (and mind!), but the up side is that as I embrace even the uncomfortable sides of life, I found an unexpected transformation in seeing the beauty of others and myself in who they are and not what they look like. I have far more confidence than ever before and am loving who I am much more than I ever did when I was a young “beautiful” woman. Remember that none of us is guaranteed tomorrow, or health or anything else. Embrace today!

Thanks Vera for not going with the "aging gracefully", I agree with you. I'm 56 and at around age 45 I had surgery on my upper lid to remove excess skin. I did it because I could feel that skin when I blinked and it became uncomfortable. After tons of research I chose the highest ranked surgeon in that field, and I couldn't be happier with the results still years later. I let my hair go grey during the pandemic and I'm rocking it with a stylish hairstyle, some wrinkles and lipstick 😂

When you mentioned not feeling 36, I smiled because I tell people I feel 35 and I'm 30 years past that. Our brain doesn't always align with our chronological age, but I think of it as keeping that energy. You summarized a great deal of what is considered, both personally and societally, re women, aging and the quest for youth. Thank you. I have chosen not to get procedures, but I sure wish there was a cream for marionette lines that can make me look angry when I'm not. Still working on finding peace with that one. :)

Thanks for reminding people that nobody is forcing them to watch this stuff on social media. It is trending to do all of this but honestly I live in NYC and don’t personally know anyone doing this. I’m not in those type circles and most people aren’t either. And please, children shopping at Sephora is a rich baby thing. The average elementary school kid is lucky if they can pick out cosmetics at the drugstore. It’s still very rare even in a big city with a lot of wealth. So the whole perception that “everyone” is doing it is a lie. But if you are constantly watching content that shows it, you feel it’s everywhere. The average person is just trying to get by in this economy and doesn’t have time or interest in such frivolity. I’m into fashion and beauty and just focus on skin care. I’ve used sunscreen, tretinoin and chemical exfoliants for years as “anti-aging” along with hydration and those are cheap solutions with proven results. Even body care now has exfoliants to help with keeping the skin fresh and can be found cheap. People just want to overcomplicate things and the problem is often mental health, not aesthetics.

I think aging should be celebrated. I am 45. My skin is not perfect. I have sunspots and some discoloration. I do wear makeup, which covers some of these marks; however, I would not consider Botox or surgery. I am fine with the fact that my skin looks 45 and not 25. I also worry about the consequences of Botox and various treatments. I would hate to have some type of permanent damage done to my skin or body. That being said, I don’t judge those that have had Botox or other treatments. I feel it is a very individual choice.

One thing that has been helpful is following people on SM that are older. Following women specifically that are embracing their gray hair and their aging makes aging seem less scary. So if someone isn't willing to quit SM completely, that may help. The beauty of doing this is that you'll keep receiving recommendations of older people living their lives.

I agree with you and you handled a very sensitive topic really well! I haven’t and wouldn’t get fillers or injections either. The side effects and health risks are a big part of why. I’m a big chicken and glad about it. LOL! Another reason is the upkeep: these procedures are not cheap and I’d rather spend my money elsewhere. Also, I do not like having appointments to keep in my personal time that aren’t absolutely necessary. My professional life is full of appointments and meetings. I want my schedule to be as free as possible everywhere else in my world. Lastly, I prefer my own face as imperfect as it may be. 😊 Great video, Vera❤

I'm 41 and what I regret is not listening to my body and accumulating damage by pushing through what was just a minor injury to leave lasting impacts.
When I think I may have another 40 odd years in this body, then I wish I'd looked after it more so far. I've learnt the hard way.
I want a body that allows me to live my life (nothing spectacular) with energy and not in pain for as long as possible.
As for looks, learning to appreciate the human behind the mirror without anyone's validation is most important. If we just use looks or aging as another stick to beat ourselves with, it's a sad life. What can grow stronger and stronger, is our inner person and that's always in our power.

That is unfortunate.

    What a great video!!!
I remember a friend of mine from years ago, who was diagnosed as anorexic, saying she always looks fat in the mirror.
It made me think that people who get a lot of ‘work’ done are a bit the same sometimes…. For example they don’t see how ‘too much’ filler in their lips can look unattractive. I think they may still see their thinner lips when they look in the mirror. Do you think that’s possible?
You said that you don’t feel 36. Well from this point on you will never feel any older inside (your head). You may have more aches and pains, and yes, lines. But you’ll be the same person inside your head…. with more experience and confidence. It’s going to become more and more obvious… like you said, not thinking about your looks (checking yourself out in mirrors and window reflections). You won’t believe the level of confidence you’ll attain! I think that life became way more amazing after my 40’s. I’m 71 now and I’m still the same person I was at 35…. but better….. even without Botox or fillers!
PS: As far as looks go, I don’t think you’ve reached your full potential yet. You have a bone structure that will look great for years to come.

"What we give attention to, will grow (11:28)", I'm ok. I'm 39 soon but I feel not very concerned with my age, for example by practicing sport with the goal to loose some belly volume^^
We should accept that the youth go by, and enjoy each present moment. You have reason not to spend your thousands euros for botox or fillers, because the more you do injections the more you will feel insecure, as the years go by. Just accepting the age we are is ok. Every day is a gift and could be the last one. And yes when we are aging (not everybody I'm ok) we tend to become more wise or more sure about what we want and what we don't want. Not me, I acknowledge I'm always very undecided and hesitant😅
I wish you to have a long life, full of beautiful experiences Vera 🙏💞

I will age naturally with you! I am 37 and absolutely will not get injections. I recently tried a resurfacing serum that apparently had retinol...and every night I tried it, I woke up with shortness of breathe! Some people react strangely to retinol and I am one of them. I do not want to go down that road of spending money on products that apparently keep you younger. Simple facewash and moisturizer for me...done and done! I am not going grey yet but refuse to dye my hair when I do.

I am 66 yrs old and do the best I can to stay as healthy as possible. People tell me I don’t look my age as they initially think I am about 50yrs.
I have never had any plastic surgery or Botox etc but I think I am just very lucky with my skin.
My hair is still it’s natural colour of mid brown ( with a few grey hairs but not many) so I don’t have to dye or think whether I want to dye my hair atm.
I would be lying if I said I don’t mind looking older, and I do envy young people as they look so lovely, youthful etc, and I do miss being young - but equally I feel I am blessed to age, as unfortunately many people don’t get that chance.
I was always taught by my parents to have inner confidence and I think that has helped, because it’s about more than just physical beauty, or youth.
I also made the most of each stage I was at, I think that helped as well.
Looking back now I would still make the decision not to have plastic surgery or fillers etc, because once you start you have to keep going with it. I also feel that work like this can ( not always) make people look very fake and thats not a good look imo.
Youth is part of life and so is ageing, it’s not just our looks that fail with age, it’s also our physical abilities and this is a lot to deal with.
I think the best we can do is to try:-
Make the most of our youth and energy while we have it
Do the best we can to stay as healthy and physically fit as possible
Not judge ourselves or let others judge us purely on our physical appearance
Appreciate the lessons life has taught us
Appreciate our bodies for all that they have done to get us to old age

There are so many positive things I could say about this wonderful video. It makes me so happy that this video, that offers such wonderful reasons to choose not to have botox and fillers, is out in the world to give people an alternative that they may otherwise not have considered. While I was watching I couldn't stop thinking about the Japanese art of Kintsugi, where cherished items that are worn or damaged through use or accident, are pieced together, lacquered and the joins are highlighted in gold. The history and use of the piece is not hidden or covered over but beautified. The most significant people in my life were my grandparents, who both lived long and sometimes difficult lives - my grandad lived to be 101 years old. They were beautiful people who made the world a million times better by their being part of it. Because of them and their example I see aging as a great privilege and I see genuine beauty in it.

No one needs anything to prevent the look of aging because for thousands of years people aged with out the need of this type of thing I feel. Also in the long run it’s only a short temporary fix cuz at some point you can not keep trying to counteract your bodies natural corse of physical changes from aging. When and if you make it to like 85. Just let life be life the way it’s always been.
Btw wow you are so pretty! My goodness. Good video!

As far as botox and fillers I agree that they are not for me. I have considered other cosmetic procedures such as getting a nose job because I have felt self conscious and like I dont fit societys standard for beauty. But it becomes such a slippery slope once you start to do body modifications and we keep chasing this dream of perfection that really cant be achieved anyway. I love your comment about everyone having a unique and different face and I agree, it is so lovely to see when people display who they truly are instead of trying to hide behind a mask. Its all about self confidence in the end.

I'm 65 and have often wanted to have something done to feel better since I'm divorced and trying to meet a nice guy. However... I agree ,we're obsessed with looking young, and it's shallow and ridiculous. If you're healthy and happy you're lucky, and really I try not to care anymore. There are far more important things in life than my looks. Getting old is part of nature , the wrinkles and scars are evidence that I've lived, laughed, cried. People should stop putting so much emphasis on looks and more in character and as a person.

Very thoughtful and thought-provoking video, Vera. I am 21 years older than you. I agree with everything you said in this video. I have never done botox, fillers, etc. I just use basic skin care. I prefer to keep "young" looking from the inside: healthy plant-based eating, drinking lots of water, abstaining from alcohol, getting plenty of sleep, exercising a bit every day in the fresh air. Take care of your health, and the rest is up to nature and genetics. I have better things to do with my time, energy, and money than obsess over my appearance. I find it more important to focus on my inner life: learning, being a good person, being an asset to others in some way. I also love that you talk about how aging is a privilege that is denied to many. Wars, infectious disease, and famine around the world deny a natural lifespan to many people. Even in parts of the world that do not have these problems, life is easily cut short. I see this every day in my work as an oncology nurse. Aging is a gift, even if it does not always look pretty.

I will be 44 this year. I had a total hysterectomy for medical reasons a few years ago and so I'm aging a lot sooner. I won't use botox and fillers, but I do use Frownies for my frown lines (cornstarch, paper, water - to retrain the forehead muscles to release tension, relax, and lay flat.) and face yoga to sculpt the face. And it really works for me! I started using Frownies after seeing photos of myself where I just looked angry all the time!
Also, I wanted to share this: I work in a nursing home and I always tell my residents - there is no such thing as old, only older :)

So when I was younger I was totally against botox and fillers, and definitely in a judgy way! But I am 63, and my situation is that my husband looks much younger than I--I am white and he has black skin, which as you probably know, does not show age as easily. It has been bothering me, so I did go ahead with the procedures, with a reputable cosmetic surgeon. TBH, I am very happy with the results and my self-esteem and confidence have been boosted, as lame as that may sound! I do not dye my hair and have a lot of gray, which doesn't bother me. I personally feel that dyed dark hair only accentuates aging skin in older white women. For yourself, you may change your mind later, and if you do that is totally OK. I am proof that one should never say never!😉

Great video! I just turned 50yo and am glad I show signs of aging. It reminds me of my life's experiences and lessons that I don't want to forget. I also don't care what people think like I used to when I was in my 20s & lower 30s - that's a big relief. take care

Beauty to ashes is what came to mind. I love the fact that you are embracing aging, I am 45, and I am comfortable in my own skin. However, this was a long, hard journey to come to this point. Thank you for sharing this video.

LOVED this video. We just need to accept who we are and quit always trying to look like everyone else. Just be you. I know people who get it done and I can't help but wonder if down the road, they are going to regret it. And when you added it all up--yowsa! I too can think of a whole lot of things I would rather use that money for as well.

You are awesome. So much confidence and being comfortable in your skin is amazing. I've had nothing done to my face, no fillers or botox or anything. But I love antiaging products. I notice a difference in my skin texture and I look about 10 years younger than I am. I know this might be negating what your video is about, but I do like to look like how I feel. I don't feel 53, I feel about 40, so why not look like it? Serums are so good for your skin and have benefitted me so much.
Keep up the journey of empowering women and their looks!

I think it depends a lot of the people you are surrounded with, I dont have any people around me who use botox and such, but they are all teachers, hikers, biologist, people who dont really care about their own or someone elses looks in general. So that makes it easier I guess, also here in the east of the Netherlands (Arnhem) I dont see many people in the street who had their faces done, maybe its more a western\big city thing.
But all in all its everyones own choice, though i think most people who had done things to their face dont look younger: they look like an old person who has done procedures. 🤷‍♀️
(And for people who say: 'you can not see it on me' thats simply not true, you see it emediately, its just that if you have a lot of people aound you who have had surgery you are used to seing faces like that, other people see it right away because for them its not 'normal.'

I totally agree with yours ideias about botox and fillers.
I am 42 and I also have chosen to age naturally.

Aging is a privilege and as an artist, authentic faces and bodies is a must for my models. To me, authentic caracter will always be better than altered beauty.

Thank you so much for making this video! I really, really needed it! I turn 35 this month so I'm around your age and I definitely noticed changes to my skin. Hitting my thirties was very hard for me, and I feel like I haven't accepted myself and all of my new fine lines, wrinkles, etc. I guess I just needed someone to tell me it's OK to age! I am very expressive with my face so the lines are definitely showing and I love your perspective. I also have Grey hair coming in that I cover by adding blonde highlights to my already dark blonde hair. :) but I think it's time to stop worrying if I look "young." I'm not 20, like you said, I'm a whole teenager older than 20!
Love your perspective and content. ❤

I really appreciate this video. I used to be insecure and obsessed with looking younger and had lots of fillers over the years. I'm 51. I look great for my age even without anything. Last February, I got a terrible face infection due to lingering filler and probably some kind of bacteria that dry in maybe from a sinus infection. I looked like the elephant woman. My face was a horror picture for a month. I had to get 2 rounds of steroid injections , 3 rounds of oral antibiotics and oral steroids and even then I was still in danger of it spreading to my brain. It's NOT worth it!! WE as a societyneed to get real, learn m self acceptance and start honoring the song process. Thank you!!
