  • Dremel or Rotary Tools as they are called are basically mini wood routers and do many of the things a full-size router can do, but in miniature, which makes them easy to hand hold and extremely versatile. In this video, I am making a mini DIY drill press device for the Dremel that can also function as a workstation for many other Dremel bits and accessories.

Nothing like using scraps & a lot of ingenuity to make a very functional tool! Way to go Colin. Got this one book marked for future use...........Thanks for posting...............

Hey Colin . I really appreciate the down to earth approach you have. And your honesty of not being sure it will work, and the happiness you have that it worked. Ty for being a great teacher to us wood worker newbies .

This is awesome. Tools need not to be elegant or fancy. They only must do what we want them to do.
This Dremel drill press is far more versatile than classical drill presses. It even can become more versatile when you make a
small hole in the ground plate. In that case you can drill (small) holes anywhere in a large flat work piece.
Thanks for sharing. I just wrote it down on my to do list

I understand it needs distance from the pole, but that huge block of wood and the completely untouched board in the back would drive me crazy, especially if I had the tools to easily make it look nice and take some weight off at the same time

Simple but very functional. For small work & accurate vertical drilling it's a winner.

I love this! Great job. I would like to see the dremel have a vertical AND horizontal mounting position. That would allow more flexibility with the variety of bits and tools the dremel can use. The creativity of how one could approach projects would be so much more open.

Hah, love the design! It kind of looks like something from "The Flintstones"...and more than doubles the usefulness of the Dremel... I also love the idea of mixing epoxy on Post-Its! Thanks!

It doesn’t have to be beautiful as long as it works! Looks like you got that right on. It even came out better than you thought by it self locking. Nice build and I will probably make me one for my Dremel too. Thanks so much!

For all of it's basic layout Colin it has a GREAT advantage over the shop bought. Your big blocky Slide (with cam), gives it a very large reach allowing you to get wide work pieces under it. I think from memory the Dremel stand is only good for 75mm

    • @knecht105
      @knecht105  6 лет назад

Yes, the reach is better. Thanks for watching Peter!

Pretty slick trick. That cam is the icing on the cake. Did you put any effort into seeing if the drill bit was vertical and square to the base or do you figure this was more of a 'down and dirty' fixture?

This is a good video with lots of good tips.
What would be useful to me would be parts lists giving approx dimensions .......eveen to the nearest inch.
I like your point on wood expanding etc and using plastic instead.
Wood is not always the most reliable of mediums.

Good idea for drilling holes in printed circuit boards. And the alignment accuracy (which you didn't address) woudn't matter for such thin material.
In fact, this gives me an idea for doing a two post arrangement for holes in wide pieces... hang your slider on a small gantry between the two posts with a linked cam between them for gross vertical movement. hmmmm.
