- Dremel or Rotary Tools as they are called are basically mini wood routers and do many of the things a full-size router can do, but in miniature, which makes them easy to hand hold and extremely versatile. In this video, I am making a mini DIY drill press device for the Dremel that can also function as a workstation for many other Dremel bits and accessories.

Elegance does not equal efficiency. Great job!!!!
Nothing like using scraps & a lot of ingenuity to make a very functional tool! Way to go Colin. Got this one book marked for future use...........Thanks for posting...............
You're welcome Steve!
Hey Colin . I really appreciate the down to earth approach you have. And your honesty of not being sure it will work, and the happiness you have that it worked. Ty for being a great teacher to us wood worker newbies .
Couldn't agree more. Great idea, with a great result. Can't wait to try to build my own now, thanks in advance Colin.
This is awesome. Tools need not to be elegant or fancy. They only must do what we want them to do.
This Dremel drill press is far more versatile than classical drill presses. It even can become more versatile when you make a
small hole in the ground plate. In that case you can drill (small) holes anywhere in a large flat work piece.
Thanks for sharing. I just wrote it down on my to do list
You're welcome Hans. I'm glad it's going to help you!
Really excellent job! Can't wait to make this!
I really like minimalist solutions. This one can't be beaten.
Good job.
Thank You!
I understand it needs distance from the pole, but that huge block of wood and the completely untouched board in the back would drive me crazy, especially if I had the tools to easily make it look nice and take some weight off at the same time
Simple but very functional. For small work & accurate vertical drilling it's a winner.
Thanks Joe!
I especially like the Bungie cord spring loaded Colin!
I love this! Great job. I would like to see the dremel have a vertical AND horizontal mounting position. That would allow more flexibility with the variety of bits and tools the dremel can use. The creativity of how one could approach projects would be so much more open.
Hah, love the design! It kind of looks like something from "The Flintstones"...and more than doubles the usefulness of the Dremel... I also love the idea of mixing epoxy on Post-Its! Thanks!
It doesn’t have to be beautiful as long as it works! Looks like you got that right on. It even came out better than you thought by it self locking. Nice build and I will probably make me one for my Dremel too. Thanks so much!
You're welcome Becky. Thanks for watching!
Colin, your continued focus on woodworking tips and tricks is highly appreciated. Thank you cobber!
I remember even some of your woodworking videos were building tips and tricks... the stop in the back of a drawer is one that readily comes to mind.
I am glad that I have subscribed to your RUclips channel.
Please keep up your high quality content.
Fun, entertaining video. I am certain viewers will notice the years of experience that makes experimenting go quickly with good results. I never would have thought of a cam.
Thanks for watching Jim!!!
You are the man Colin! King of jigs. I learned a lot from you. Thanks
Two words Colin: Drill Doctor! Ha ha ha! Cool AND extremely useful build!
Thanks for watching!
What a great idea. The cam at the back works really, really well. You should try adding a stop block type thing to give X deep holes.
That would be a good addition. Thanks for watching!
What a fun little project. Cool idea Colin, nicely done!
For all of it's basic layout Colin it has a GREAT advantage over the shop bought. Your big blocky Slide (with cam), gives it a very large reach allowing you to get wide work pieces under it. I think from memory the Dremel stand is only good for 75mm
Yes, the reach is better. Thanks for watching Peter!
Clever. You've given us a really solid idea to expand on. Thanks!
You're welcome Richie!
What a great idea! Thanks Colin.
Thank you for watching Carl
Just purchased a dremel Colin so this has come at a great time, thanks again!
You're welcome! Thanks for watching.
I've seen a few videos about similar setups for a Dremel, but this is the easiest one to make..I will definitely give this a shot..Thanks !
Let me know how it works out for you Mike!
Your videos are so fun to watch and very instructive. Thank you very much!
Nice job! Using the same t-track slot a sort of adjustable block can be added, then the same drilled holes depth can be be replicated
That would be a great addition. Thanks for watching!
Hi Colin! This is my first time watching your channel and I subscribed right away. I found your video since I was actually trying to make a diy drill press for my mastercraft rotary tool. This will work beautifully and I have pretty much all I need at home. Thanks for this useful and inventive contraption!
Pretty slick trick. That cam is the icing on the cake. Did you put any effort into seeing if the drill bit was vertical and square to the base or do you figure this was more of a 'down and dirty' fixture?
Great video. Simple and elegant in design and construction. Good job man
Thanks!
Outstanding, sir!
Nice design! Well done.
Thanks Rick!
Love it, Colin.
Hi. Thanks for this video. Do you think the dremel can be used as a drill press into maple wood, 1/4” holes with a #5 reamer bit
Got to be pretty chuffed when an experiment comes together and works pretty well first shot.
Good going, Colin. 👍
Thanks Bill ... I'm definitely happy it worked out!
This is a good video with lots of good tips.
What would be useful to me would be parts lists giving approx dimensions .......eveen to the nearest inch.
I like your point on wood expanding etc and using plastic instead.
Wood is not always the most reliable of mediums.
Such a clever device!! You rock again, Colin, thanks for sharing : )
You're welcome Green Kitty. Thanks for watching!
it WORKS good job
Thanks David
Thank you Sir!Useful jig 😊
This would be great for drilling scroll saw patterns...
Never thought of that! Yes, it would!
awesome
i made one for myself and i find it really useful
What is this sorcery?! 😄👍🏻
I see cribbage boards in your future with this. Maybe a small adjustable fence with calibrations ... simplify those many fold cribbage boards...
Should work! Thanks for watching.
Very well done!!!
Thanks!
I LIKE IT I need to make one
Go for it!
Very good idea!!!
Thanks
Who knew you can use mustard as wood glue?
This is great! What are the dimensions of the cam lever section?
Maybe some kind of lubricant between that plastic and the metal pieces will make it slide smoother and prevents wornning , nice idea :-)
Yes, at wax will also help, also!
Good idea for drilling holes in printed circuit boards. And the alignment accuracy (which you didn't address) woudn't matter for such thin material.
In fact, this gives me an idea for doing a two post arrangement for holes in wide pieces... hang your slider on a small gantry between the two posts with a linked cam between them for gross vertical movement. hmmmm.
I'm glad it helps you with your own jig Bill. Thanks for watching!
Slick, really nice1
Thanks!
I think you just saved my corded drill from the trash
Glad to help!
You forgot to check if it was drilling straight
👌👌👌👌👌👌
Thanks
👍
Thanks
why is he using mustard as wood glue?
I usually use French's on cleats.
It's a channel secret. Keep watching and it will become clear soon ;)
It’s a hot tip; and he has it licked.
I know i was joking hahahahaha
Because Ketchup loses its adhesion if it gets wet.
