      Have to say that is one nice jig. I have one of the universal drill jigs by MilesCraft. I think yours is more accurate though.

    Very nice John. I think that this is something that all of use need and is something that we can build on. I agree with those that say a clamping section would be a nice addition as would a self centering for drilling holes for dowels. This is a nice base to start with and customize as needed.

    This is a must for me. Just will make life so much easier when drilling guitar bodies. Simple and easy. Plus the base can be modified so it will be registered to a template. Love it.

    The irony is that your design is stable. I've purchased two benchtop drill presses over the past couple years that had so much runout right out of their boxes that they each would easily win any dance off you threw at 'em. Seriously. Give my 3.5 amp Porter Cable a hula hoop and watch it go! It's probably not good that a drill press can moonlight as a concrete vibrator. Gotta use a 1/4" bit to achieve a 1/2" hole.
    This is inspiring. Thank you.

  • @Thinkle911
    @Thinkle911 2 года назад

    I just watched two videos of yours, BUT they are really great, simply for the fact, that you explain not just what you are doing ( i am not stupid, i can watch a video!) but WHY you are doing something! Nearly all other DIY project videos are just: "take some wood, make some cuts, apply coating: tada!". But why it must have been built in that fashion and why some things are important and why some other things should not be done is never explained and the viewer is left alone.
    Thanks for being different!

    I noticed the vice at 1:39, you probably have a video about that but this is the first I've seen of it. At first I thought it was a round about way to make a table vise, but when I stopped and looked at it, it has the distinct advantage of not having any rods or poles to get in the way of clamping something.
    That is extremely clever, and I hope to make one similar to this in the future.

    That's a really awesome and very practical project! I used to have a shop but now because of circumstances I have to be mobile. So now I don't own a drill press, but I could really use one like that! I really admire your creativity and your willingness to just jump in there and make something up. Personally I tend to overthink everything before I build it. It would be way faster to just build it and then rebuild it if there's something about it that I wish later that I'd done differently.
    Now that you've had the chance to use it, is there anything you'd do differently if you had to build it again? Or are you satisfied with this design?

    definitely cool! Only thing I can think of that this build needs is some sort of quick release method of getting the drill out fast. I know it's only a screw, but when you're running around tryna get shit done.. last thing you want to do fumble with a small screw. Perfectly fine if you have a bunch of cordless drills lying around but, most probably don't.
