  • Certainly not the easiest option but I think we found a good middle ground to get new pipework in to the top floor yet still keeping the 'original' look. I was going to be a stubborn purist and go with all cast iron but having seen how it turned out I think it's just fine.

      I find that component DIY'ers often do a better job, as they tend to take a lot longer to achieve a better finish. A professional would have to charge a lot to get things done to the same standard. Professionals obviously do it way quicker, in most cases, but don't have the time to go back and fill defects 4 or 5 times to get a prefect finish, or take several weeks to get the bit of wooden siding just right.

    • @gordyl9247
      @gordyl9247 3 года назад

      @@cjhification agreed, compodent amateur individuals can achieve a high quality because they are driven by the end result rather than renumeration. In saying that it was a pleasure to watch the skills of the plumber carrying out the roof lead work, a real pro. Who obviously has pride and skill at a level unlikely to be attained without years of experience. Anyone charging professional rates should be able to produce top quality work faster with more skill and accuracy than any amateur.

    • @cjhification
      @cjhification 3 года назад +1

      @@gordyl9247 absolutely, professional do the job day in day out, so usually can do a good job, quickly. As you say they have to value time at a professional rate, which makes for expensive work if it takes several weeks; to an average homeowners, that's rapid for something like a bathroom remodel.

    Hi Tim I mentioned in your last drainage vid that you should change the 90 bend for an access 90 bend trust me it's better to have it and not need it than to not have it and hav a blockage and no external access.

    • @TheRestorationCouple

      The access elbow is the other side of wall where en suite will be. That way it’s not visible outside but easy access inside. 👍

    We're looking at buying scaffolding, then selling once we're done (whenever that might be). I was quoted £6.5k for setup and the first 3 months rental, out of interest do you mind sharing what you spent on your hire and how long it was up for (feels like years!)

    • @TheRestorationCouple

      Judging by how hard it has been to clean off the porch floor and other drips I’m pretty confident and others have used on upvc with several years. Fortunately it’s at a level I can easily get to off my tower scaffold if really needed but should be fine.

    I got caught on that with that Cr*p spray(never again)......when I used the correct brought lube from screwfix it fly's in the socket. I have a big tub of it now. Also I learnt the easyway to get plastic 110 push fit apart. Before I used to wiggle it and pull then the guy from osma told me to put a screwdriver in the lip gap on the side and twist and it pops off the plastic top and the rubber is free. Then you just put the rubber back on and push the plastic back down and hey presto you can push it back in again. Simple when your told how to do it.

    As an engineer I would have simply gone to a steel supplier not a supplier of house materials for the pipe. 3m of schedule 10 , 4" pipe - £27. Same stuff just a fraction of the price and you can get 6m lengths as well. 6" is 84 quid - still cheap.
