Just changed my first ever ferrule using this video/method. Went a lot better than I expected. Took me a while but it was an enjoyable way to spend an hour or 2. Thanks!
i have just done this on a old cue i had, it took me about 30 mins it is spot on, so easy to do as long as you take your time....thanks for showing us how it is done... 🤝👍
Thanks for the video, it's helped me a lot. I never thought i'd be able to do this by hand but after watching the vid, I can now do it. As Andy says, it's very important to take your time.
Nice job, very skillfull Dave.👍👍.I'm very luck to work on metal lathes so i can easily make my own ferrules, usually slightly larger diameter than the cue, then machine wood to .1 mm larger diameter than inside of ferrule, then glue and press ferrule onto cue and because its a very tight fit you can machine diameter to cue then face square immediately. I've been cue doctoring for over 40 years so can make my own joints, extensions, weights, etc, and repair broken cues just for people who play in my local leagues.
because of stupid tradition. brits are know for not wanting to break the tradition. i play snooker with a carbon ferrule and it's definitely better than brass. even steve davis said that it was stupid that brass is still used.
In America, there is no tradition, and that is why American pool is a very unpopular spectator sport. In England, they respect tradition, and snooker is wildly popular as a spectator sport. It's sort of like: Why don't they use aluminum bats in MLB? The answer is that the "ping" sound sucks to listen to, and there's no reason to change tradition. American pool is about performance at all costs, no matter how ugly it is, so no one wants to watch it. They even keep changing the colors of the balls to supposedly make them show up better on TV screens. It's gross.
How do you know you are equally taking off the wood? You need to do it on the cue lathe whilst the cue spinning at low speed. You don't file the ferrule. You ruin it.
@@davidwalton5829 It's called craftsmanship. I see all these folks claiming to be cue makers when really they are CNC operators. Basically, a cue made in a low-volume factory setting. I have nothing in particular against using power tools; however, there is a line where you're simply putting in an order, i.e. CNC machine and there is little craftsmanship in it. There may still be artistry in the composition if you're into that sort of thing, i.e. looks over utility.

great video for me as I don`t have a cue lathe or fancy stuff, just 2 hands, patience, and ears, thanks
Grand job but what is the best way to remove a glued push on ferule,
Really helpfull and great to watch many thanks.
Right iam going for it,let u know if i f it up.
How'd you get on?
How to remove old ferrule?
Old broke hence the video
Great video Andy, will you be doing a video showing how to fit a disc badge at any point?
Did you put a bowl under the brass handle?
Also put some painters tape around the edge so no resin goes on the shaft.
I'm tempted to change mine. Are they all push on or are some threaded?
You can get threaded.
Stanley knife to go round the cue, why not use a pipe cutter, pretty much guaranteed a straight line round it
Wouldnt sanding do same thing only faster more even?
Why dont you make a video , being your so smart ! The guy is a skilled craftsmen
any way to fix a cracked (small crack) ferrule without replacing it?
What do you call that thing you used to scrub?
The amount of 'experts' on here telling this guy how to do it! lol
Is that not a metal file ? 🤔
Good video
Ferrules come machined flat. The filing flat is unnecessary and asking for trouble.
Tape the edge of the shaft before filing.
why snooker players use brass ferrule on cue stick ? thank you

@@nitnesto9195 they started using titanium ferrules as well now

@@myblacklab7 thank you
And also why people don’t use titanium ferrules I’ll never know
They do
Put it on 1.5 speed
Glue name
Epoxy
Thank you

No you don't, I've fitted plenty of ferrules by hand.

Pretty sure he knows what he's doing.
It's called having skill, a craft!
I have to go 💩 don't you understand exclamation point!
There is no doubting your knowledge and reputation - BUT I cringed seeing you filing a brass ferrule !!!!
No way would he be touching my cue
You wouldn't have a respected cue maker touch your cue?
Easier to use a ferruling machine
thats insightful
Everyone I know owes a ferruling machine! Stop talking nonsense! This man knows his shit! You obviously don’t!! 🤫
lol
Not a very good job tbh.
