    I’m glad I watched this video save me time and money. I have a 2012 mk6 GLI and after paying $2700 for a new clutch pack it’s got damaged. It’s started with a grinding noise. Bell house it’s damage and clutch pack. I got a different code transmission from a same year and model and it works great, I didn’t even change the mechatronic.

      Thomas and V10DTDI, wondering if either of you have seen codes
      " P1689 - 000 - Implausible Message from Elect. Load Controller - Intermittent",
      " P1862 - 000 - Missing Message from Instrument Cluster - Intermittent",
      " P1867 - 000 - Missing Message from Steering Wheel (J527) - Intermittent"
      Found these 3 codes after I noticed a quick flash of the EPC light ( I think, it happened so quick it was hard to tell)
      2008 mkv GTI, I was going through an "S" turn fairly aggressively and the car pretty much lost power for a split second, I thought it was traction control at first since i had just done some ABS work. Other than this one event, car is fine. Leaning towards bad connection/loose since I was cornering hard...
      Any ideas or experience with this? VCDS measuring blocks to graph while logging data?
      Thanks a ton! Great vids from both of you guys!

    I too am very curious as to the source of that metal.
    I'm thinking it's from the spider gears & pin in the diff.
    I would see damage to those when customers would spin up one wheel in the snow or rain. It caused the spider gears in the differential carrier to spin so fast it would grind and even weld themselves to the pin.

    No the customer keep it for a spare but a few months later the car burned to the ground I would think he still has it if you want it I could ask him and you could get a good deal on it but the part number has to be compatible with your car or any other car. The old mechatronic was acting up because of all the metal in the oil I'm sure I bet if I would've installed it in the car it would've worked for a while but we decided not to because it would ruined the new part in a short period we knew that the transmission had usual wear.

    If you wonder what the particles are see if a magnet will attract them. Then you will have somewhat of a better idea where they might have came from. I have a feeling that the particles may have gotten into the old mechatronic unit and may even get into the new one unless the they are removed completely and the cause of it fixed if it is possible.

    Would you say the gearbox oil filter is a bad design, as when you remove the filter, all of the rubbish falls back into the gearbox?

    • @1badk20
      @1badk20 4 года назад +1

      If there is that much stuff that falls out of the filter when you remove it, then you have bigger issues. The filter is designed to capture the fine partials very well that accumulate under normal wear from regular use, and should not fall off when you remove it. The DSG transmission is supposed to be serviced every 35-40,000 miles. Due to the complexity, and the various sensitive speed sensors and actuators in the Transmission and Mechatronics Control Unit, I personally change the Fluid every 20,000 Miles/2-Years (Whichever comes first), and the filter itself every 10,000 Miles/1-Year (Whichever comes first). Is it over doing it, maybe, but these Dual Clutch transmissions are very costly to repair or replace. Depending on the issue, there is not much serviceable parts in it. The Mechatronic Control Unit is around $1,000, the Dual Clutch Pack Assembly is around $400, The Entire transmission Assembly itself $5,000, or even the Dual Mass Flywheel, which is around $400 (This part is technically not part of the transmission itself, but it is a higher than normal failure rate than most other types of transmissions. I have seen them fail in as little as 20,000 miles, but for the most part they can start to fail at 80,000-120,000 miles). VW will only replace those items I listed, or the entire transmission assembly, they will not go deeper into it.
      I have the correct tools to fill the transmission, and the scan tool/software to monitor transmission fluid temperature to properly set the fluid level. So for me to do a DSG Fluid and Filter Service, it costs me $83 for 5 Liters of Fluid, Transmission Filter, Filter Housing O-Ring, and Drain/Fill Plug Seal, plus the hour or so time/labor to to the service. I use only OEM VW/Audi parts and fluid. The Factory fluid on these transmissions is Pentosin. The Part number for the Pentosin DSG Service kit is #8038207-KIT
      I have worked on maybe 50-60 02E DQ250 DSG Transmissions, and the biggest cause of failing parts is improper care and maintenance. Some people had 80,000+ miles and the transmission has never been serviced. If you service them every 35,000 miles, don't use Launch Control and shift at 6,500-7,000 rpm at every single stoplight trying to race Grandma in the next car over, they can last 300,000+ miles, even behind a Stage 2+ K04 engine making 350 Hp and 350 Lb-Ft of Torque at the front wheels (400-Hp/400-Tq at the engine). With a proper DSG Tune from a reputable company such as Integrated Engineering, APR, or Unitronic, the clutches will hold up to 450 Lb-Ft of Torque coming from the engine. Tho, anything really over 400 Torque at the engine, I would highly recommend a High Torque Clutch Kit. These transmissions are very well built and can hold up to some serious power levels. With the proper high torque clutches, and a DSG Tune, they are holding up to 650 lb-ft of Torque at the wheels, which is roughly 700 Lb-ft of Torque at the engine. That is really the max of this transmission and is now limited by the strength of the transmission case, gears, shafts, and overall fluid dynamics of holding the power.

      @@1badk20 drivers don't care, they simply crank the car and into the road without letting them warm up. Drive the car fast even when cold, clutch packs need hot fluid for proper engagement and lubrication, just like an ATV transmission, when cold they do not bite, once hot the transmission works, but need to let it warm before getting on it.
      I see it always, start car cold and immediately doing 60mph fast, causing damage to discs.

      @V10PDTDI  4 года назад +6

      Ak Ak Hi looks like you’re transmission is very similar to the one in my video so when the mechatronic is removed or the transmission is drained from doing a service then there’s a big Allen bolt under the transmission and then in the same hole there a plastic tube that you remove in order to drain the transmission fully including removing the filter on the top so you put back the plastic tube then you need a special tool that screws into the place of the big allen plug and then your need a pump to push approximately 4.3 to 4.5 litres of DSG oil into the transmission the Mechatronic is exposed to the same oil as the rest of the transmission unlike the 7 speed dry clutch DSG it has two different types of oil the 6 speed has only one type that lubricates all the parts but if you have lot’s of time and patience you could fill the transmission from the oil filter housing when the filter is removed. Hope that this helps.

    Aluminum Oxide, this is the real reason why car manufacturers love using aluminum. The transmission ground is corroded? Since aluminum oxide is not magnetic it keep circulating around to sand every moving part

    I just bought a 2008 VW GTI DSG four days ago. While I was driving today the "PRNDS" in the forward display began to flash, the CEL came on and the car felt stuck in gear, it would shift very late (5,500rpm) in "Drive" at normal speeds and it would downshift very low (less than 1k rpm) very very jerky shifts.
    Left the car alone for several hours and when I started it, it was shifting fine in drive mode and "manual" mode but the CEL was still on.
    Could this potentially be a Mechatronic issue? I heard it could also be a faulty Temp sensor.

      Chia David Hi if I remember right you have to connect a diagnostic tool to the car and look a the ECU no. In the transmission section of the diagnostic tool a Rosstech tool works fine for that but I think that to be more precise you would have to call your local VW dealer with you're serial no. And then they can check to see what is the current part no. Also you can ask if there is any other number that would work the same I think there are after the part number some codes letters that identify the mechatronics and the price New at the dealer is around 1500$ Canadian.

    Hey. I have a Golf 6 1.2 TSI DSG7. After the engine heats up (15-20 minutes) in the 3,4,5,6,7 gears (not 1 and 2) and only between 1800-2100 rev it starts accelerating in hops (feels like very short brakes). These "hops" start multiplying the longer I drive, but only between those revs. On Sport mode (>2500) it accelerates fine. The problem really started happening a few minutes after the oil + filters change. at 50k miles. Before the oil change the issue was almost unnoticeable (sometimes doing it just in 5th gear). Changed : clutch, sparks, spark plugs, induction coil, camshaft chain (this was a must) - same issues. Any ideas please?

I have 2008 Jetta 2.0T TSI equipped with DSG (to be more specific it is model DQ250) as you said in the video they have bad mechatronic unit. I totally agree that, but car's hesitation and jerkIness happens at slow bumper to bumper traffic [ONLY AFTER SPIRITED DRIVING (SAY 30 MINS)] this madness happens once tranny oil attains certain temperature. Something in mechatronic not function right when oil is warm or hot. There is absolutely no hesitation or jerkIness in transmissions, when oil is cold. Rather than expensive fix of replacing mechatronic unit I will go with cheaper fix. Do you think it should be great idea to install a aftermarket DSG oil cooler? Do you think it will work?

      Yes the metal particles are coming from the internal parts inside the transmission that is wearing faster than it should and then theses same small metal particles stick to any magnetic surfaces inside of the transmission and then premature wear occurs in the mechatronic unit then the transmission doesn’t work well anymore.שי שי
