I have a theory. These Biketok guys are the bikers who rode motorcycles but then crashed, destroyed their bike and had minor brain injuries and so now they must resort to these videos.
Attempting to become famous online is all they have left to try and pay off the medical bills.
Though I think those were major brain injuries since as shown in the video, most of them lack a sane mind.
That's a very specific situation to have a whole community around.

I was in the same boat as you for a court of thorns and roses. I was told, “oh it’s a really cool fantasy novel with action and stuff!” And then there was the “Little bit of romance” but I was invested and thought “maybe it gets better in future books?” It didn’t, in fact it was more in future books.
I had a similar experience with another series by Sarah J. Mass, the throne of glass series. I thought the first book was okay, it had some romance, but was mainly about a conspiracy involving magic. As I read more, though, it got way worse. I eventually gave up on the series.
My mom recommended it to me 😭😭

Another Fun Fact about motorcyclists: I have a friend who's an EMT (emergency medical technician), and him and his work friends call motorcyclists, "human crayons", since most of the motorcyclists they treat DON'T HAVE ANY GEAR ON, NO LEATHER, DENIM, NOTHING, JUST SHORTS AND A T-SHIRT.
And so, "human crayon" is the term given to them, since when they crash and slide...

As for the book recommendations, I am very grateful that my local bookstore and library have very normal, good books. I've never seen books like that at the bookstore I live near.

My local book exchange store is great. However - unfortunately I can not say I haven't seen the court of thorns (or whatever it is called) on the best seller wall at QBD or Dymocks😢

Based on how clean those helmets are I bet they either don't ride or don't ride with them. The amount of crap that my helmets get on them when I'm riding is crazy.

I work in a bookshop and i can just confirm this. In about 90% of all our books, from the romance and young adult sections are smut.. we sometimes struggle ro recommend a book to a young adult, who gets into reading, because we don't want to scare them with all of this smut

An actual book recommendation is "The Way of Kings" by Brandon Sanderson. It is a Fantasy ACtion adventure about a slave finding his purpose to live, a Duke struggling with visions, and a girl finding the truth of who she is. there is a VERY SMALL romance sub plot with no x-rated material in the entire series and (extended universe). The author Sanderson is highly respected with some of the best long running series. i would highly recommend trying a sample of one of his many series.
For a wonderful standalone book by the same author Tress of the Emerald Sea is outstanding! Great start to the author if you’re not interested in committing to an entire series!
Another good start I would argue is the first Mistborn series! I think that Way of Kings can be a little bit of a drag at times for newcomers, but Mistborn is fast paced enough to get the reader hooked onto the world of Brando Sando. I can’t wait for Stormlight 5 this year!

I reccomend the darran shan series - a modern fantasy about a boy who becomes a vampire as punishment for stealing a spider, and his adjustment to the customs of their society.

Well, that's controversial. It's impossible to destroy someone's community when people inside that community are actively participating. Moreover, almost every community has it's own "dark side" with weirdos. That doesn't mean, that the good, adequate side disappears.
Same with book community. I could say that it was rotten by smut, but, actually, smut's always existed and been popular among middle- age women. Doesn't mean, that they've "destroyed" book community. No, not at all. They've created their own branch, if I can say so, and peacefully exist within it. People who don't enjoy that genre just stay away from it 🤷♀️

if you want an actual high fantasy rec, Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon is a great book (it has a lot of dragons), there is a romance subplot but it’s only relevant in one of the four povs and doesn’t come to fruition till the end of the book

i gotta be so real, i'm very annoyed with books not being advertised as what they are. i got bamboozled by a few tiktoks being like "omg this book is so cute!" and i start to read the most heinous stuff but I already got it, so i might as well finish it.
I also have a kindle and I make sure that every time I buy a book I found it by either: watching a long form video that recommends books of a certain genre or by knowing and already having read other books from that author.

People make very different assumptions when an average looking guy refuses to remove his helmet when, say, going to the bank. Not to mention it makes it so hard to speak, you have to communicate via note card.

I went to a Greek island that I go to every year and looked at the bookstore. Three lines. On the second line, kids' books. On the third line, actual literature translated into Greek. On the first line? English sm*t. The worker said various teens bought from that line, just like me. She kept trying to recommend some but as I looked at the descriptions it was all about sex, mostly non-consensual. She had no idea. As I wandered around the touristic area of the island, I kept seeing Colleen Hoover on small rotatable book stands. It's sad.
