I have the HS720 too. I was experiencing the same issues as you were. So, with video, the HS720 doesn't have a video stabilizer on it. So, the video is what it is. With the bouncing off the ground issue/s, I learned this was due to the sonar sensors located on the bottom of the drone was having trouble sensing the ground and therefore basically got lost when it came to the ground. The sonar picks up different types of ground better than others when it comes to color or concrete, grass and or water. I found that if I fly the HS720 with the spot light "ON" this stopped that problem. I actually fly with the spot light "ON" at all times now. I find that it helps dramatically. Even during the day and at high altitudes. My further research, experience and talking with Holy Stone technicians shows that flying with the spotlight "ON" helps the sensors detect and stabilize the drone not only during flight but hovering. Also, I should mention with my HS720, I have no more "Rotational Drift" when the spot light is "ON". Give it a try and see.... Happy flying.
Hs720e has the image stabilizer on it to help with some of the image problems I see you are having. Going from the original 720 to a three axis gimbal should be like taking two large steps ahead of the 720. Unfortunately I found your video while I was researching the Hs720e and now that you are changing drone I am losing one good source for feed back on the 720 line. Thank you for an excellent video, explaining the issues you're having. Making no excuse for the drone, I would suggest that, after making your edit of video clips, run the whole video through the "stabilize" function of your video creation software. That function is even in the simplest video software, iMovie, if you are working on an Apple computer. I am at a "before-beginner" level with the 720E (batteries charging!), so I especially appreciate the videos you have done!
hey I was wondering how you took care of the drifting .. I have one of these drones and I put it in the air b but it won't hover in place. It just rotates in a small circle and if I touch to google stick it throws it off even more. hard to handle and don't feel safe put high in the air in case it takes off on me
Having very similar issues. Very unsteady, huge drift on rotation with 12 satellites. Bangs hard on descent and I've found when battery is low it just drops, no good warning. This is aside from the fact I can see the SSID but can't connect to it.
Just got a 720G and already experienced major toilet 🚽 bowling, and almost crashed several times. Very disappointed, sending it back for a replacement. Maybe defective?
I Have the Hs720e and having connection issues with wifi and I have turned on Mobile Data when wifi is not available still does not connect. I can connect to the drone with the drone remote just having the wifi/ mobile data problems. Can anyone help please? Thank you.
I’ve had the same issues with my HS720. I crashed my 1st one and Holy Stone sent me a replacement, but it had the same issues. I’ve learned to keep it close and fully charged, because it can’t be trusted. I have since upgraded to an Autel Evo II and it is far far better; completely reliable and awesome photography.
I had the exact same issue s I bought mine from gadget stalls in Uk and it done the exact same , I lost my first drone on the first flight it was heart wrenching 😀they said they would replace it and they sent me a second hand piece of shit that was worse , wat an experience for a first time flyer , I to bought a evo 2 , and an air 2s DJI ..wat a difference them budget drones are muck , although if your a first time flyer you can’t go wrong with the bugs 20 eis or the bugs 12 eis they have rock solid gps and always come home on a clear day I can get my bugs 20 out a mile , sorry for your trouble s guys I no the feeling , bycot Holystone at all costs 👍take care and fly safe and have fun that’s the main thing cheers from Ireland 🇮🇪😎

i've fixed my hs720e twice already since owning. it's a faulty product. it's best to fly it low and slow. if you want to fly fast and crazy get a tiny whoop setup,dji, or a true fpv drone that's programmable in betaflight or similar software. flying this drone super fast in sport mode is just asking for it to crash 😂
Returning one to Ebay soon due to that same issue. The seller reacted like I didn't know what I was doing. Obviously I'm not the only person with this issue. Thanks for posting.

Hey Dyson, Unfortunately, I'm just a beginner as well. I can only guess. Check to see if the blades are mounted with the correct side up. Otherwise, check with Capitan Drone. He is an expert.

This drone has been a terror for me. My issues are the drone literally runs away from me for no reason. First time I found it. It landed maybe 50 yards from the return to home. Today it did it again. I hit the return to home and it literally continues to fly away from me. It went way out over a field so I don’t feel I will find it this time. Customer service at Holystone is terrible as well. Some days it flew perfectly days like today it wanted to fly as far away from me as possible.
My HS720 is good except for one thing: the low-battery RTH is super annoying. I'll be flying along, and suddenly it will zoom off to where I took it off from, and then I have to go sprinting back to find it. I'm considering saving up for a DJI
So I just tried to use the drone inside and instead of calibrating it, the lights where red and yellow, mind you second time of use, it flew up and as soon as it got off i immediately push the joy stick to fly back down but it didn’t and it was moving towards the tv so I just grabbed it mid air and held it , I turned off the controller thinking it would stop the drone used all the buttons till the lock button was held down, it finally stopped and I looked at my hand and it was bleeding. Learned my lesson.
2:36 to 3:23 all perfectly normal footage and actually quite good for a camera without a gimbal or image stabilization(EIS). If you want smoother video you have to use EIS (HS720E) or a drone with full 3 axis gimbal like a Mavic mini. The 720 series barometer can react on a dime to a sudden change in air pressure and the altitude hold loose its height some, my 720E has too...must watch it carefully while close to objects and be ready to react....it is not a DJI mavic.....720 series can have spongy control at times. It's a budget drone and not uncommon in the budget realm to have these issues/cost tradeoffs. It's amazing how we demand more performance the better we get at flying. It's not the drone so much as it is ones skill level advancing and now wanting a better drone....ie HS720 purpose served bringing a new drone pilot into the world. Some horizontal drift is not uncommon as it slowly finds gps location again after an interruption or the optical flow sensor and gps are not correlating well due to enviroment... I would observe and note the enviroment and surface it is over when this occurs. If you fly with tall objects like trees surronding the drone the GPS can get blocked or interrupted quite quickly. Likewise reflections from buildings, especially metal, when flying bewteen them can cause gps reflections and degrade GPS as it locks onto a refleced signal out of phase. Clean the optical flow sensor lens too from time to time. Note many surfaces cause optical flow to drift the drone...usually more close to the ground as it seeks a stable image with less repedative or reflective surfaces like tiles or water...don't get too close to water...risky for many drones, budget or high end.

When I bought the 720 it worked great, so I thought. After purchasing a Mavic Air 2, WOW, what a difference in stable flight. The HS720e is only good for one thing. Learning how to fly. I still fly it once in a while to work on my skills with unstable and unpredictable flight training.

I bought a HS720 last year and at first for a beginner drone I actually thought it was great, steady reliable. I was impressed right until it decided to go from a stationary hover to a 70mtr dash into a tree on its own. It was totally unresponsive to the controller. Totally destroyed. Holy Stone sent me a replacement one and this refuses to hover still without constant drifting. I don’t trust it one bit. The only thing I can think of is there a way to factory reset it so I can redo the initialisation process again as I’m thinking when I did this originally the surface could have been flatter.
I have a HS720E and I’ve recently learned that the gyro calibration is no longer included in the manual. I’ve been having similar issues to yours, but i haven’t had a chance to try this calibration step. Have you tried the gyro calibration (Both controllers down to left)?
The dropping sounds like a issue with the barometer since these basically run in attitude hold mode. I don't know how it looks on the inside but on them is usually s foam cover that mightve come lose (this causes it to missjudge its height). Anyway just passing by
Interesting video. Before I watched this I had already placed an order for a HS720E and since come across a few videos complaining about control issues which did not inspire me as a novice pilot. It appears from the videos Holy Stone are pretty good when it comes to warranty issues which is a relief. Hopefully mine will work out ok as I can't justify the budget for an expensive Mavic.

Hello friend, I see that the same thing happens to you as me, the main thing is to learn to pilot the drone no matter the quality of the image, the good thing is that learning to pilot the 720 the others are very easy and we have not destroyed 500 or 1.000 euros that a good one is worth. it could be that the number of crashes that you've had screwed up the inside of the drone to where it's not able to perform correctly… By the time you get g ood at flying the drone it can't handle your commands because of the crashes… I think that's just the cost of learning how to fly a drone..
I have the 510 and the 720E and they both drift around quite a lot like your 720. To be honest I don’t think I would buy another holy stone product. As the old saying goes “Buy cheap, buy twice”. I have the mm2 and the tello and they are both far more stable. The mini 2 is absolutely rock solid when it’s hovering.
Unfortunately a beginner drone is really a DJI mini 2. These other drones are just simply not good enough, even for beginners. I returned my 720e after 2 days, and stumped up the extra coin for the mini 2.
These are great beginner drones. What you are expecting out of a sub $300.00 drone is too much. You (and me) are ready for a DJI type drone. I have destroyed 2 hs720's and was going to order a third image stabilized hs720e. But after reading up in these forums I see they have the same control issues. My last drone destroyed itself through no fault of mine. It went crazy after takeoff and I couldnt get it to land. It hit a tree and crashed breaking off an arm. I am now saving up for a Mavic mini.
my HS720 did the same thing yesterday, had NO control over it and landed against my brick house with the motor going. Blade are toast and i could only turn it off by pulling the battery!
Just flew mines for the first time and loved it scared to take it high or out because it wouldn't turn around with the hover feature like a helicopter with the left joystick first few minutes of flight were great I loved it other then that
I have a HS510 and is also my first drone. Wish I had paid a little extra for the Maveric Mini (same size & weight) which has gimbal and remote tilt. Like you I learned a lot but only crashed once (minor) was my fault with no issue. The last time I flew it the drone just took off on its own. Not my fault! I actually had to quickly raise it to avoid hitting a car but could not lower it and would not return home where it hit a 🌲 tree. Any further it would be in the middle of the lake. Now GPS is out and I am unable to even do a quick start. NO SUPPORT by Holy Stone! All they can do is offer me a 20% discount on my next purchase. NO THANKS!!
Get the Aultel Evo 1 or 2. You have the money to buy one or you wouldn't be able to travel the states. I have the Evo 1 and it's the bomb. The 2 is even better.

I have the same issue with it! It hovers and then loses position and out of control to any movement of the sticks

I've had issues to where it won't rotate left or right. It doesn't go very far away from me, only about 30 meters away from me and then disconnects

l have a 720E . last time l had it out motors shut down in mid air and crashed breaking off the right rear arm.

Late to reply, but many issues mentioned here can be possibly, Compass or Gyro calibration not successful, also possibly insufficient sat connections

I had the same problem. There was always a little bit of movement. It's not you. It's the drome.
My HS720 also suffers from rotational drift. It pirouettes fine, and then goes shooting off, and then meanders back. Suggestions anyone?

I have one too I switch to DJI and hs720e has a gimbal some what lol. DJI batteries charging time 1hr 30 min as apposed to 5 hrs.

for stable video you should fly at the slowest level of speed called tripod mode, seems like you're not there, that's why the jumps.

Get a dji spark or a DJI mini 2 !!!

Get the Aultel Evo 1 or 2. You have the money to buy one or you wouldn't be able to travel the states. I have the Evo 1 and it's the bomb. The 2 is even better.
