    My old percussion director marched cavaliers ‘01,’02, and ‘03. I’m so glad I got a taste of drum corps at a young age. He left when I was in 7th grade, so I only had him for a year but he taught us about the old days of dci and how stale it’s gotten

      What did he say about the staleness?

    • @xCydezx
      @xCydezx Год назад

      @@rifle2563 he's probably referring to the fact that its easy for a corp to win with innovative stuff, but that lends itself to every corp pushing its boundaries and as a whole pushing the activity as a whole. It then makes for a very different product that you get on the field and for that it makes it different to pre 2009 corps. Back then, if you wanted to be innovative, you pretty much had to play better, march better and be in tune with all members of the corp staff included to prove a point and prove an innovation and if you were a proper winner you would be awarded 1st place. Now, all you have to do is be "innovative", "try different stuff", be okay with 4th place and see what sticks without any regard for the basic fundamentals that make a drum corp show judgeable as well as enjoyable.
      Nobody is really competing anymore.
      And by that I mean, play better, march better, be in tune with all and every member.

    The sound those Cadets snares made... heavenly! When the bottom heads are tuned like this it doesn't choke the snare sound so bad on the field that you can't enjoy the notes when they're in the back field. That was an awesome book. Hope to hear more of your take on other battery clips. Hack on fellas

    • @agedoutpodcast

      I’m not sure honestly, it could have something to do with what they are allowed to use in the lots now. I can’t remember if DCI has a restriction on metronomes and jam blocks/cowbells in lot warm ups.

    What does not quite "blended" mean? I aggre that after the perfect cold attacks that they weren't perfectly clean on the roll. But blended makes me think that there were different interpretations of the technique for it instead of it just being a little dirty.

    Ok cadets had some dynamic rolls but that was a bit overrated,the quads were outstanding however.The 1985 Blue Devils had a more relaxed smooth cleaner sound.If the cadets could have sustained the rolls a bit longer that would been more impressive but both drumlines took high drums in their seasons and this 2013 cadet drumline could have been the best ever but just not quite fluent enough in my opinion.
