  • Edamame is the perfect appetizer or snack for any meal. This simple, but flavorful recipe packs in garlic, shoyu, sugar, mirin, and sesame oil. Bet you can’t have just one. Pupus (appetizers) are a big deal in Hawai’i. Every party, baby lū’au, and holiday gathering is sure to have it’s fair share of yummy dishes. A crowd favorite is edamame.

    Edamame Recipe
    Ingredients:
    salt
    1 tablespoon shoyu amzn.to/34ceZ2l
    1 teaspoon mirin amzn.to/3jb659B
    1 teaspoon sesame oil amzn.to/3m21Gro
    1 teaspoon granulated sugar amzn.to/35qpVc7
    4 cloves garlic, minced
    1 pound edamame, unshelled
    Directions:
    1. Set a large pot of water over high heat. Add salt and bring to a boil. The water should be similar to the saltiness of the ocean.
    2. While the water is boiling begin making the sauce.
    3. To a small bowl add shoyu, mirin, sesame oil, sugar, and garlic. Mix until well combined.
    4. Add edamame pods and boil for 3-5 minutes or until the pods begin rising to the surface.
    5. Remove edamame from the water and place in a bowl.
    6. Pour over the sauce mixture and toss to combine. ENJOY!

    Looks ono! I’ll have to try yours. Big Coty Diner in Kaimuki made me obsessed with Hawaiian salts on edamame. I’ll use shoyu, garlic, and seasoned Hawaiian salts at home. At our local sushi restaurant they serve them plain while you wait for your food, and I have to douse ours in shoyu 😂
