Stats, stats, stats! ❤ After your 2019 stats video, I decided to make my own charts and it is super interesting to check how my preferences look like. Greetings from Poland! 😊
Totally agree on the idea of choosing a couple of categories you enjoy and focusing on those for the Goodreads challenge. It's such a good concept but it seems like one of the challenges you least enjoy doing in terms of the books you're reading!
Hi Emily! I've been binge-watching almost every single video you've ever put out 😍🤩 I really love the way you discuss books, hope you're enjoying yourself now! 😊
Considering that your videos from March to May were pretty much all "ugh I'm not reading much, stupid slump", I expected your numbers to be a lot lower! I think you're doing pretty well so far. Might I suggest another data field for you to track? It would be great to see your breakdown of white vs authors of colour as well as genders.
I love your stats videos!! They've actually inspired me to make my own Google Spreadsheets for each year & I think it helps me stay on track with my reading :) Also, I really appreciate your honesty about experiencing a reading slump. I constantly have compared myself to booktubers reading 70+ books so it's refreshing to see someone else going through a reading slump too! ❤️
I enjoy stats too, I created a spreadsheet this year so I can see how my reading preferences have changed through the years. Fantasy is also my main genre and sci-fi my second most read genre, but for some reason I always think I read more sci-fi. Maybe I just remember sci-fi books better or it's because I rate sci-fi books a lot higher, which is also something I saw in my stats.
Are the next books announced? I don't like to wait in between books and I thought I had heard the next book had been delayed so I have yet to pick it up lol
It's been saying september for at least 5 years every year. And even if it is released it is supposed to be a 7 book series, so no need to rush it. I love the series but I'm so over waiting for series to be finished for over a decade
@@chiyapink7607 well I am pretty sure that the forth one is coming out since they already announced the translated version, but damn I didnt know its gonna be seven books. Thats a long wait for sure lol.
@@BookswithEmilyFox the books of this series serve as perfect standalones. Trust me it's like one and done situation. The lies and locke Lamora is an absolute standalone....and I mean absolute. Others stand on their own as well. So if you read the first and liked it you may continue,if you didn't, you may never proceed. It's not like name of the wind.
Hey Emily, just wanted to let you know that there are Donald Trump ads running on your videos. I saw some creators were able to block the ad if they felt so inclined, but I would have no clue how to tell you to do so.
I am noting all my read books in a notebook. I prefer writing it down on paper rather than on my computer. I keep track of how many pages they were, year of publishing, language I read them in, genre and format (e-book/hard copy). And for the past 4 months I haven´t read any book. I was writing my thesis and studying for the exams to get my degree... But now I am reading again. :)
My favorite stats that I'm following is where the author's from! Want to read books that comes from all over the world. Not surprised that US is leading... 😅😬
I like the idea of add the both option for types of reading as I have been finding lately my mind tends to drift so listening and physical reading at the same time has been super helpful!
Hi Emily! I love these videos, and I'm glad to hear you're (hopefully) out of your slump. I liked your stats about number of library books, because it helps promote the idea that we don't have to buy books to love them. Also, I love your end of the year Goodreads awards, but if it's forcing you to read stuff you don't like, your idea of only doing your top 3 favorite genres sounds like a good plan. Best of luck to you!
I love stats😍 had to check my own when it came to format, and omg I have listened to 27 (73 %) audiobooks??? This year is definetly not a "physical reading year"😂
This is the first year I started logging the books I read apart from the goodreads list. I like looking at my genres, page count, and if the books I read are those I have on my tbr shelf for quite a while or new or borrowed 🙂
For the goodreads challenge maybe you could do just the genres you know you like, and then maybe pick one or two other genres to read the winner of. That way you can branch out on the genres you are reading but you won’t be wasting as much time reading books you probably won’t enjoy. Doing most of the categories seems like a bit much if you know you don’t tend to like most of the categories.
Stats videos always so interesting. I don't do mine personally because I'm lazy so I just see what Goodreads has for me at the end of the year. I go through these strong reading phase then just watching shows and very little to no reading getting done and then back again. So I started out strong this year but it's taken me like 2 weeks to finish a 300 page book haha.
I've read 75 books so far this year, and my streach goal is 120, so I think I will reach it. But I don't have access to my library, so there's a bunch of books that I can't read for some of my reading projects. I'll do what I can hahah I hope the rest of the year goes well for you! Keep in mind that goals are fun, but if you're in a slump and can't read that much, you should only read what you like 💕
Great video! I love hearing about stats. It would be interesting to include how diversely you are reading. Like, how many books by black authors or other people of color? Any indigenous authors? Or maybe even where the author is from. Love your channel!
I also read 33 books so far and my goal is 50 books! Most of them because of you :) Last year I read 45 books. I love my stats, but I only write audibook or physical/e-book and the number of pages :)
Maybe, for your goodreads categories challenge, reading your fave categories would be the most successful for you. But, if you wanted to include the other categories, you could do a 'taste test' situation. Like, 'could I like books from the other categories?' and pick and choose stuff from each so you have a bit more control? :) As for my list or stats, I kinda just set a goal and nibble away at it! Like, a few years ago I owned 205 unread books and as of today, I only have 29. Unhauls helped, I'm not that magical hahahaha, but I'm determined to read 100 books a year! (If I don't hit that goal though it's okay, I just kinda shoot for it and see if it happens.)
About the goodreads challenge, I think it would be more fun for you to create your own categories/book entries. For the ones you're stuck on, you could go for what booktube recommends to you. As discussed in the past, goodreads is unintentionally rigged when it comes to sequels. So I'd much rather see your version of the awards! You could create your own winners list for 2021, as even if you haven't read the books you choose, you'd still be in the same boat as most of the goodreads choice award voters. 🙈
For the Goodreads challenge next year I'd love if you picked just one category and read the 10 nominees and give your own order and compare to the order they had on Goodreads. & If you have the time you can do more than one category.
I just finished reading Skyward and I think in some ways it's very similar to Insignia by S. J. Kincaid! (Which by the way you should read ASAP I really believe you would enjoy it)
I also have 8 books going at once...I don't make my reading goals so lofty though, I have time to reliably read 50 in a year, sometimes I hit 70, others 55. I enjoy stat videos, it's fun! I might reach 100 this year, I've read 48 but I anticipate a slowdown in the Fall/Winter. Have you heard of Under the Skin by Michael Faber?
I currently track all my books on a word document so I kind of keep track of my stats but honestly I need to find some time to transfer them all over to a spreadsheet and set up some formulas to make pretty stat graphs.
I am at 11 books read so far this year. - In the Heart of the Sea, by Nathaniel Philbrick (2001) - The Plot Against America, by Philip Roth (2005) - The Glass Castle, by Jeanette Walls (2006) - The Marrow Thieves, by Cherie Dimaline (2017) - Sapiens, by Yuval Noah Harari (2014) - Catch-22, by Joseph Heller (1961) - The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton (1967) - The Poppy War, by R.F. Kuang (2018) - A Storm of Swords, by George R.R. Martin (2000) - Naked Pictures of Famous People, by Jon Stewart (1999) - On the Move, by Oliver Sacks (2015) I cruised through the Poppy War. Catch-22 is one of my favourite books. A Storm of Swords was awesome.
Hey, Emily! How do you feel about horror? I've just recently discovered my love for that genre (specifically stories from villian POV), and was curious whether you wanna try it out.
I meant to keep better stats this year, but it didn't happen. The majority of my reading was done with my Kindle, but I have bought a few actual books over the last couple of weeks. My goal was 50 books for the year and I believe I'm at about 30 books for the year. I'm terrible at updating my Goodreads page after reading a book so that is really not much help for me.
I have enjoyed maybe 2 books on the Goodreads Choice Awards in the 4 years I've been on it. It sucks. It's the authors with the money that get the features, not the authors with the talent (I know sometimes those are one in the same, but rarely on the Goodreads Choice Awards).
Does anyone else have “bathtub” books?I always grab a physical book to read in the tub because I’m scared of drowning my kindle. I grabbed Matilda last night and I’m enjoying it. This also encourages me to read physical books!
I definitely do this! I read the entire a song of ice and fire series last year almost entirely from my bathtub reading a few chapters a night. It helps with concentration to not have access to my phone I think!
I don't do stats like you but i do goals in january of course, i have not achieve my goals tho haha But i have the half of the year and i'm feeling positive! 🤞

I agree with what you said re the Goodreads Challenge. Only do it for the genres you truly enjoy reading :)
Jan : 3 Books ( Classic, Mystery , Contemporary)
Feb : 4 Books ( Classic, YA , Contemporary x2 )
Mar : 2 Books (Short Stories , Historical Fiction )
Apr : 3 Books ( Non Fiction x2 , Contemporary )
May : CERO
Jun : 2 Books ( Classic , Epistolary )
